The speakers in the LR are FAR superior to the RWD version - it's absolutely amazing!! Stalks don't make any difference - you soon get used to it - as Elon says, the best part is no part I love the Highland, but waiting for maybe Juniper but definitely the Model 2
@@tdtesla thanks for the comment. I think it really depends on where you live in the world. I think if you live in the USA honestly, the indicators are not a problem at all as most driving is straight and then just a left or right turn. however, in European countries like the UKUK, we have so many small and mini roundabouts linked together that the target is always moving and the buttons then change orientation from left right to side-by-side to upside down so it is a bit more tricky here.
@@MBrownAnd it's not just roundabouts. Many roads, in many countries, are curved, so the wheel is turned when you have to indicate into another road. The US must have most of its roads in grid patterns.
Brillent Review Mark , many thanks for posting. Just ordered and paid for my new model 3 today & now just waiting for delivery date confirmation. Thank you so much again for your top review. Tesla are lucky to have you reviewing their cars.
Thanks so much Ryan, really appreciate it! I enjoyed making this one, and loved the new car! Are you think of getting the highland or sticking with the Model Y?
Would love if the car automatically switched the indicator for you on a roundabout when the nav knows where you’re going. That would go a long way to fixing the indicator issue and could be done with software.
Actually, do you know what would be an even better way to resolve the no stalk issue ????? Don’t remove them in the first place… Musk is so DUMB 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Yeah, that would be a good idea and it’s a shame Tesla didn’t foresee this small issue and plan for it. That’s kind of what I meant in the video by this not being an improvement, I love improvements and things changing if it makes things easier and faster. And that’s the problem this isn’t easier or faster
@@RichieLanderos it’s in the context of a roundabout with multiple exits, where you have to press the signal button at the right time while the wheel is in a rotated position
Great video Mark, really enjoyed it! Totally with you re. the stalks, I think it's a huge backward step. I was holding off buying a M3 until the refreshed model came out, and now that it has, I'm afraid the lack of stalks is a deal breaker. I'm so disappointed because it's such a beautiful car. I guess my choices are either wait for a retrofit to become available (apparently there's a company already working on this) or go with the current Model Y. But great video! 🙂
I took the Highland for a test drive (got a Model 3 LR) & I had no problems with the indicators being on the wheel at all - I agree with Mark - go for a test drive! The car is absolutely awesome
@@exaturbo we want it fitted from factory. No one is going to dismantle their dashboards to fit 3rd party hardware that should have been installed from factory
Great review Mark. You’re exactly right with the stalks. Yes you can get use to it, yes it’s not a dealbreaker but it’s not an improvement. If you don’t live in the US, this will be a pain. No USS is also not an improvement (at least for now).
If Tesla brings steer by wire to the Model 3 that may help with the turn signal buttons, since it reduces how much you have to turn the steering wheel.
Hey, yes absolutely it’s a lot better compared to my 2021 Tesla model three I really like the door sounds of opening and closing sounds much more like a BMW or a Volkswagen. My current model three back doors sound like tin when you close them 😊
Yes, the indicators on the steering wheel for me is a dealbreaker, I just can’t understand how people say you’ll get used to them because it’s physically completely impossible to use them safely as far as I’m concerned. You either don’t indicate or take your eyes off the road and fumble around for the buttons half way around a roundabout, both situations putting pedestrians and cyclists in particular at risk.
I think if you live in the USA it’s a non issue as most of the roads are designed in a grid layout. In the UK we can have 3-4 roundabouts linking together so imagine finding a button that constantly moves and the button placement changes when it goes upside down
Should have a selection in settings where if the steering wheel hits a certain angle or degrees the indicators flip automatically, but it’s much safer to just have stalks
Yeah, I think it’s fine for a lot of places in the world, but in the UK in certain cities, it could be a bit of a pain, not dealbreaker but just a pain
@@MBrown I’ve already had one person die in my arms, run over at junction, the very thought someone could step out in front of me when I was driving, because I couldn’t indicate safety doesn’t bare thinking about. I get most people are irresponsible and have little imagination but this is seriously dangerous, could result in fatalities, is not required and is a massive dealbreaker.
@@donaldduck5731 am still 50/50 on whether itis a massive dealbreaker until i test drive it in person. however, one thing we all agreed on it that this is def not a "improvement" feature.
Great review! No stalks sucks because it's low-key kinda satisfying with the feedback you get from it while driving. I'd only consider the new model 3 if they added it back it tbh.
Yea, the buttons for indicators are a stupid idea. We have lots of round abouts in Canada as well. I completely agree with your comment that the buttons are not an improvement. I think is just like the lack of physical buttons for HVAC controls. Yes, you can get used to them, but is it an improvement? No. Will we have to put up with it so that car companies can eek out more profit because there are less parts? yes.
You don't need to initiate a turn single for a roundabout it's right of way. No need to let people know which exit you're taking. 😂 also in the states you're required to turn the signal on 100 feet before the turn so there shouldn't be an issue with the signals on the wheel.
@@gveresUW no problem for me as i been driving it for more than 1 month, i feel the button is better than using stalk. My country doesnt have all this small mini roundabout than again if you drive it for a while you will know where to press the button because the turning position of your steering wheel should be around the same for those roundabout.. is not like a random thing that will it be in different position when you always go the same roundabout.
I had a test drive a few days ago and at first I went for a stalk, by the end of the drive I was on road with 7 roundabouts in the last 4 miles. These roundabouts involved different exits and by the time I had finished, the buttons weren’t an issue. I live in the UK and anyone that knows the A31 from the New Forest to Bournemouth will know how many roundabouts there are! Hopefully, the hate won’t be a slow burner as I’ve ordered a M4 RWD LR for delivery in 4-6 weeks. 👍
Not upgrading to a new car cause the stalks aren’t ideal seems a little drastic.. I’m sure people will adjust like they did with the instrument cluster removal!
Hey, as I mentioned in the video, I think it really depends on where you live, if you’re in the USA, for example, this is really a non-issue as you primarily drive straight and indicate left or right, so it’s super easy. Here in the UK and some European countries like Italy, we have roundabouts and multiple roundabouts together, so the band are constantly spinning around moving upside down and the button could be Top or bottom left or right or up and down. And as I mentioned, it’s not a dealbreaker for me, it’s just not an improvement
Hi Mark, I too agree with you about the indicator stalks. I have no problem with forward/reverse via screen. I suppose FSD would remove the problem, the car could do the indicating, but until then it is a menace on mini roundabouts. I don't think it is a deal breaker, a well known after market supplier intends to come out with add on indicator stalks using bluetooth via the OBD port. I think Tesla would be wise to at least offer it as a UK/EU retrofit option. It's almost a case of spoiling a nice ship for a ha'poth of tar!
Great video Mark! Cheers! I see Cybertruck reviewers commenting on the steer by wire making u-turns with only half a lock/turn of the steering wheel a low speeds. Wonder if Tesla are prepping us for steer by wire coming to the other models by removing the indicator stalks? The indicator steering wheel buttons with the reduced turn arc of the wheel would seem far more usable. Steer by wire dependent on 48v low voltage upgrade like the Cybertruck, but no doubt it's coming in the next few years.
Hey Barry, yes it would be great if we had steer by wire, I think that would make the indicators a non-issue as the wheel wouldn’t move much. Unfortunately it doesn’t really help this car 😆
i test drove this for an hour and went around several roundabouts. it's a slight annoyance sure, but if you cross your right hand over the wheel and grab it where the indicators are before beginning the turn, then just pull the wheel into position, your hand is already where it needs to be to indicate out, and it become second nature. knowing which button to press is also easy too - as with a stalk, the correct button is always going to be the one corresponding to the direction you're about to turn the wheel. in the end i felt that the buttons are superior for 99% of driving situations, with that 1% being right turns at roundabouts.
the problem is most people don't wanna accept new thing and not willing to try. People like to stick to whatever they are familiar with. It is not that hard to adapt, i been driving it for a month+ i feel it is easier and more comfortable.
Hey, thanks for the comment, but that’s not the case here when we have a roundabout as the steering wheel turns up the buttons are no longer right is up and left us down at the top right is right and left is left and then when the wheel turns upside down, they actually reverse the placement, so it’s it’s quite hard to work out where they are and obviously each roundabout is different in size, so the buttons can be completely different place every time
love your videos Mark - just a quick one, with the indicators, do they work with voice control? I know the same problem would occur as the new way of accessing the voice control is the button on the steering wheel but just wondered as there's only one to worry about!
Hey Nick thanks for the comment, no unfortunately there are no voice commands for the indicators... I guess it could be added in a software update but not on this one currently.
@@MBrown i thought as much! would potentially fix the issue - but would be better if you could voice activate the voice commends as per "hey siri" or "alexa!" - great review as always mate
I agree with the indicator-bashing. However, I think you need to look to the Cybertruck, and specifically steer by wire. Max rotation is what, 170 degrees in either direction? So I think that’ll mean you’ll generally be physically be turning the wheel less, and therefore the buttons stay in the same place relative to your thumb. Would still rather have the stalk though! Its removal doesn’t *add* functionality.
Hey, yes that’s the thing if they had added stair by wire in the model three, I don’t think it would’ve been as much of an issue, however they didn’t so it is a bit of an issue in this model
Many in the UK can’t use roundabouts properly anyhow, though I agree, the lack of stalk feels the wrong decision. That said, it won’t put me off one of those when I get round to changing my current car.
I've ruled out the model 3 due to the lack of indicators and lack of proximity sensors and 360 view. The charging infrastructure isn't enough to put up with the lack of basic usable safety features.
Thanks for the comment. Yes I can understand how you feel. For me, it’s not a dealbreaker, but it changes otherwise perfect car and does take it down slightly for me.
At 16:19 , clearly the cameras cannot detect nearby objects like the ultrasonic sensors can. In this example, there are even strongly contrasting colors, and still the TeslaVision cameras cannot get the job done. And this is 'state of the art' for 2024?
@@MBrown Agreed, but Elan has decided to remove essential sensors from the car, to increase profits at Tesla Corporation. And the car is degraded as a result.
The no indictator stalks thing I believe is Tesla’s incremental move to steer by wire since moving your steering wheel all the way around will become unnecessary. But yes, I too prefer stalks myself. Also, the European market doesn’t need them any more than the US market needs them. We have tons of windy mountain roads, curvy freeway interchanges, and, believe it or not, roundabouts and traffic circles as well.
Thanks so much for the comment, however I tend to disagree when you’re going round a mountain Road. You don’t generally need to indicate too often or if you do you’re only going left or right once. Here in the UK. We have sometimes multiple roundabouts link together, so you may need to indicate five or six times as the wheel is spinning and your travelling 30 to 40 mph, so as I say, it’s not a dealbreaker, it’s just not an improvement of how easy it was before
Thanks Mark. Watching RSymons the model 3 highland can’t detect low object. Having cameras on my Solterra the Tesla ones don’t look too clever. A test drive will convince me one way or the another.
Having tested it I think the stalk removal is a huge miss. I do like the new fascia, but the 10% range improvement claim is just marketing, the consumption is hardly any lower than my TMY. A big disappointement was the fact that they did not integrate a front bumper camera and HD radar. I was not wowed by the new inner light strip, I do prefer the previous wood veneer. I did like the seats, sound proofing and suspension.
Hey, thanks so much for the comment. Glad you’ve tested it out, yes I didn’t get to fully test out the range so it would be interesting to see if it is much better or not but from what you’ve said it doesn’t sound like it’s changed much. I do think even if they didn’t add back in USS, just simply adding a front bumper camera would’ve been a big plus Because you really can’t see if you’re about to hit something going forward which I really should’ve got in the video
ultrasonics is pretty irrelevant for me especially since parking is parking. I just need cameras and eyes. Removing ultrasonics will cut that cost completely from the car for a function that isn't essential and make it cheaper The lack of stalk is interesting. I can get used to it. But the real solution is simply what the cybertruck has. Steer by wire. So you will never have to do a full 360 on your wheel ever again. I feel like a lot of technology from cybertruck like steer by wire will be moved to teslas existing portfolio. The designs like changing to a yoke wheel for visibility and being minimalist checks out to the pursuit of autopilot.
Take out power steering, as I've got muscles in my arms. The problem is these things are so cheap, removing a $3 piece isn't making the car cheaper for us. I agree steer by wire would be great... but it's not in this car.
Any improvements on the automatic window wipers? As on my 71 plate they are beyond terrible! They can never decide what to do and when they do most of the time they are wrong speed!
I am so sick of people complaining about the stalks. I have no problem, I think it's futuristic. Like anything do it enough and it becomes muscle memory. If people don't like it then don't buy. As soon as Highland performance is available in United States I'm buying it!! Stealth Grey black interior. My first EV.
haha not everyone can adapt to new tech very well. I m ok with it but i think a lot arent. The real problem is they havent even try driving it for a while to know.
In the USA I don’t think stalks are a problem as you don’t have a huge amount of roundabouts. You primarily drive straight indicate left or right so it’s easy and a non issues. In Europe we have these so you have to legally indicate when the wheel could be outside down, to the side etc
I am so sick of people bending over and accepting these changes despite them intentionally going against the safe, reliable, standard. There's already been issues of reliability with those buttons and it's nearly impossible to use your signal while the wheel is turned. It's unsafe. Don't bootlick these companies. I've tried them, tried to like them. It's a backwards move and only fanboys can't acknowledge it.
Clever software could actually assist in the roundabouts - if you have navigation on and get to the roundabout, maybe an option to activate that it automatically activates and cancels out the indicators? It knows where I'm going so maybe be an option?
At 100% it was only saying 248 miles, but I've never driven the SR before this one so a little hard for me to say whether its much better in terms of range.
Completely agree with indicators - it's not an improvement at all. Also the gears, I have to parallel park almost daily so need to flick between reverse and drive and back an forth so this just seems so impractical - coming from a Tesla model 3 2021 owner.
Hey Anthony, thanks so much for the comment, honestly I don’t think the gears are too bad as the car does most of the stuff automatically. I think you’ll find parallel parking quite easy. I’d recommend taking the car for a test drive, I’ve put a link in from Tesla, so you can get a free test drive if you want one, definitely worth it in my opinion 👍
@@MBrown "automatically". Is it automatically going to stop when a cat comes in between me parallel parking then seamlessly continue when gone? is it automatically going to line up the car before? doubt it, things like this work great in a meeting room but in practise It's quite different
Great review - thanks Mark. Got another two years on my lease, but looking forward to getting the new one. Not keen on the indicators, but everything else seems to be an big improvement. Noise is a big issue to me at speed in the 2022 model. I assume there no front bumper camera? Don't see how it can park reliably forward without one (you didn't demo parking forwards to a low obstruction). I would never pay for any of the advanced auto features from Tesla (e.g. self park, FSD) as they don't work (even automatic headlights and wipers are pretty useless in mine)
Thanks so much! Yes overall it's a nice upgrade. No camera on the front bumper which is a shame, would have improved the parking, as its quite hard to pull forward to something with no sensors.
You indicate as you come up to the roundabout, that bits fine, but you have to legally (here) indicate off and this is when the button can be to the side, upside down or moving
Hi Mark excellent video and for me the section on parking was of particular interest to me . I have limited length in my garage and I have to disable my reversing aid in order to get the car to where I need it. Is that something I would be able to do in the Tesla.
Yeah you might have to go old school and have something hanging from the roof like a tennis ball, I don't think the new parking is that great in the Tesla
In the US, 2 weeks ago (2023) you could buy a new inventory M3 RWD for $11,400 less than you will pay today in 2024 (inventory pricing discount +federal incentive). That’s a lot of money to me.
Hey, yes this is something I haven’t got a full answer for someone at Tesla told me it was hardware for and then someone else told me it was hardware 3.5 and then another person told me it was four so I’m not completely sure which one it is ha ha 😆
Really great video and overview, so thank you. I have the exact spec arriving on the 2nd. Interested to know what range you were getting at this time of year? (First EV….no range anxiety….honestly…).
@@MBrown thanks Mark, that is quite promising and what I have been expecting in spring and summer months. Thanks for the fast response. Keep the vids coming.
@@giggy1995 thanks I think you’re really gonna enjoy the car, and after the winter months it gets so much easier. A little tip would be not to put century mode on all the time as that drains a lot of power overnight. I only leave mine on if I’m in a dodgy car park somewhere and leave it off 90% of the time.
Yes, great review! Only thing worth adding on the missing indicator stalk is that the existing one in the Model 3 isn't great, feels cheap and not always responsive.
@@MBrown that would be great, due to upgrade early next year and that model 3 you have had this week is not really doing it for me with the missing storks. S & X too expensive and L/H drive is an issue, love the channel and reviews keep up the good work, thank you 👍🏻.
I own a 2021 Model 3, and I am so glad mine has a proper turn signal and stalk for gear selection. What a horrible idea to remove that and replace it with a button. People forget to use their turn signals enough already, which causes many accidents. Changing the functionality will make this problem even worse. The reason auto designers went with the stalk is because it is ALWAYS IN THE SAME PLACE. That's important. Horrid idea by Tesla to remove the turn signal stalk. +1 for the blind spot lights, -5 for the turn signal.
Hey, thanks for the comment yes that’s the thing for me. The car is almost perfect so it’s such a shame they had to remove this little tiny piece which makes a big difference.
Good review Mark. The only issue I have with parking - 2023 MY - is going front in to a space as the cameras can’t pick up anything close at ground level however I’ve always preferred to back in and the rear camera does a really good job so it’s a non issue. Indicators are an interesting one and I can’t fathom the thought process to remove the stalks but I’m sure I’d get use to the change and maybe indicate less which may or may not impact other drivers. Doesn’t seem to bother BMW drivers (!) so perhaps I’m overthinking it.
Hi- great content- just wondering if when you actually need to indicate is the wheel in an abnormal position or is it just in an "abnormal" position (in relation to the indicators on the wheel) when you are going around a roundabout for example- probably not describing this properly!
Hey Mark, yes when you’re going down the straight road I need to turn left or right this isn’t really an issue because the steering wheel is straight and you can see the buttons, it’s only an issue here in places like the UK when we have roundabouts or multiple roundabouts connected together so you never quite know where the buttons are going to be or which way round they will be because they could be upside down technically
Can you clarify why the range stated 258miles in a full charge? I thought is was 318/344 depending on wheels. I know it won’t achieve this, but what happened to the 60+ miles on your car?
That’s news to me. My M3 always shows the same range whatever the weather? What it actually achieves is obviously influenced by the weather. Finding this off has completely put me off upgrading to this model.
Great balanced video. Surprising you said it wasn’t enough to switch up from a 2021 M3. The stalks are a pain but one I probably would get used to. Are the auto wipers any better? The Tesla vision is just not good enough for 43k car. The objects are wobbly and smaller things aren’t picked up. I certainly am very wary of relying on it. My lease is coming to a close but not sure to stick or twist to a different brand.
Personally, I am upgrading from a 21 M3 SR+ to a Highland LR Red/White/19. But as you can tell there's a lot more to that upgrade than just the Highland changes. My test drive yesterday confirmed to me that it's worth breaking my lease for this.
Thanks for the comment so yes it’s a tough one for me overall I love the new model three, however, from my car I think I would miss the removal of USS, the indication is a bit of a pain and I don’t really think Tesla vision is that great. Every car I’ve tried and tested auto pile out with only Tesla vision. It seems to be worse than the 2021 version with radar and USS, even though they’ve now turned off the radar.
So glad you enjoyed the test drive and I really hope you enjoy your new car. It really is a nice upgrade in many many ways. If you use the link in the description I think it gets you free, enhanced auto pilot so might be worth a try
first of all a great review very well done Mark thank you. I have a 2022 Model Y my backup cameras are always affected by rain…how are the cameras on the new Model 3? Maybe the thought process for the indicators are to prove them out for the steer by wire technology which should reduce the amount you have to turn the steering wheel? I did drive in England so I can understand the problem you face with round a bouts using the indicators. I am excited about the improved ride we have such bumpy roads in the states ride is my biggest complaint with my model “Y” but not a deal breaker. I love the new red color cannot wait to see it in person. thanks again for all your reviews I enjoy your videos a lot plus I like riding along with you enjoying the scenery,
Thanks Kenny, yes, the rain still does affect it and unfortunately it didn’t rain much at all when I was testing the car so I couldn’t really see if it affected it any worse than our current models
No I have driven the new Highlander and you quickly retrain your brain and fingers to correctly control left and right turning flashes easily once you have driven the new Tesla 3 for some hours.
As for the parking camera, I have an Audi A4 Avant and I just use the camera on that when I am reversing (plus the noise beeps) so not sure what the difference is?
I picked my new Model 3 up on Saturday and you soon get used to the indicators even on roundabouts and the gear change on the screen is simple. I want to get a boot mat and remember last year you promoting a particular brand. Mark could you please send me a link. Thanks Scott
I agree with you that the turn signal stalk should stay. Or move the turn signal control to the screen. In the past, lightly push the turn signal stalk up or down for a three flash sequence. For a continuous signal, push the stalk fully up or down. How does it work in the new setting/control?
Hey Neil, sorry I did but I forgot to include it in the video it’s not great to be honest it’s equally just as hard to see the things if not slightly harder because you can’t see the front bonnet I might do a follow-up video on that
@@MBrown I’m tentatively looking to change at the moment and Tesla were in the frame. I really don’t understand what they are playing at with the removal of the USS and the stalks. So that’s a no no from me. Thanks for the video.
Hi, I own Highland RWD for 2 weeks and about 5000 kilometers ( I had to visit 15 places across Poland). After 2 weeks I tried to drive my old car and I couldn't turn the indicators correctly, it was much worse than trying tesla Highland for the first time. My conclusion is that tesla stalksless system is much comfortable and better for me. You just have to give it some time which is not always possible by testing a car for a short period of time.
Hey Leon, it’s tricky to say as you’re picking up the audio on a small microphone, BMWs are of course very very good and in my opinion, some of the best cars at noise reduction. I’m hoping to test drive the new BMW electric series if BMW let me
While I do understand why people would have reservations about the missing indicator stock I must say I really do not understand why people make a fuss about shifting on screen. It is far from being the worst gear selector I've ever seen. In fact I found it pretty intuitive.
Great video review Mark, I’m aware the adaptive high beam assist update has been enabled in the EU, are you aware if it has or will be in the UK ? I’ve not seen anything anywhere to say it has been ?? 🤞🙏🏼
I never turn on my signals in a roundabout. Because even if there is a stock and you are turning you would have to take on hand to turn the signal which is not safe anyway.
Well, when you use a steering wheel, your hand brushes past it, so you don’t really need to think about it too much. It’s illegal requirement here in the UK that you must indicate off roundabouts so it’s pretty important here
Nice all round review Mark. Thanks. I'm on the same verdict as you, if you are already on M3 after 2021, this is not very attractive to make a move. I also don't like that they remove rear middle seat heated seating as my kids love the middle seat (so they have more visibility around). Also I'm not a very tall person, but did you notice the head clearance is lower in highland than the current M3?
They got rid of the middle seat heater because almost nobody used it. Tesla pull fleet data about the use of functions and features, and they found that barely anyone used it, so what’s the point in having it? Might as well remove it and save money 👍
Hi Kenny, great question and I can confirm when I had the car there were no voice commands. You could use to change the indicators, however, they could always add this in a future update if Elon is reading.
Biggest question is are you ordering one when your lease is up? My 3 year lease is up in June and I'm thinking more about buying it at the end of the lease than leasing a new one. The main reason is the lease prices look much higher, or at least they are for the LR models through my partner's salary sacrifice scheme. I'm also put off by the steering controls and lack of ultra-sonic sensors. Going to test drive one, hopefully, before making the decision, but what are you thinking?
Hey, great question, for me, I won’t be upgrading to this model three but mainly because I think I might be going for a model Y next and I might wait and see what the next update is like, I’m assuming it would be out by the end of 2025 🤞
First year models are nice to get, but as with all first year models, one has to accept problems that will arise the first 1-2 years until Tesla corrects them.
Yes that is always a risk with the newest model. I think the good thing here is that as it’s a refresh, there’s probably a few things that could go wrong compared to a brand brand-new model.
Fair review - thanks Mark. Just got my first Tesla ('21 M3 LR) in part thanks to your reviews. Only a week in so far but I love it. I'm just down the road from you and I rely on superchargers too so maybe see you at the Trafford Centre sometime 😂
How does the standard range speaker system compare with the old long range, I’m very tempted to save 10 grand and go for the standard range but worried about it sounding a bit tinny
Great review and you spotted all the issues I found when I did a recent test drive. I think some improvements would be as you said, add back the stalks for indicators, also where the gear function is in the roof of the car this should light up automatically as it senses your hand. Agree that it's a great car just got to work out how to afford it 😊!
Have just ordered the RWD here in Australia. Was trying to decide whether to pay the extra AUD$10k for the AWD version. I like the advantages of AWD, but how often would that benefit me? I think the LFP battery is better technology as well, and I was impressed with the power, so do I really need the added power of the LR AWD. We also love our roundabouts here in AUS, so I'm going to struggle a bit with the buttons and changing lanes within a roundabout. But it also wasn't a deal breaker in purchasing the M3. Nearly purchased a BYD Seal, either the RWD or the AWD, (as we already own an Atto 3) but I noticed the ground clearance of the Seal is quite low. No reviewer has pointed this out. On my steep driveway I only had 2 centimetres of clearance between the leading edge of the front bumper and the concrete driveway in an unladen car. The Tesla M 3 has 6 centimetres of clearance. So, the choice was made for me. Damage to the bumper in the Seal is pretty much guaranteed. But as I said, no one seems to have picked that up as a flaw in the BYD.
@@MBrown Thanks Mark, I'm sure I will. I had a look at your quick first visual impressions vid of the BYD Seal. Will be interested in your thoughts on the seats in the Seal. I was really impressed with how comfortable they are. Here in Aus, they are real leather, can't remember if they are the same in the UK? I thought they were more comfortable than in the Model 3 Highland. The Performance Seal (Excellence in the UK) is scarily powerful! If you review the Seal, please have a close look at the low clearance under the car and the likelihood of damaging the bottom of the front bumper. The only reason I didn't purchase a Seal. Really looking forward to using the one pedal driving in the Tesla. The brake pads will last the life of the car.
No Stalks👍👍 Not needed. Much cleaner look. Amazing that Tesla kept the price the same. Super excited to upgrade from my 2019 Model 3. Will miss my fog lights and USS though, I think!
@@MBrown Hi, I'm in the US! Just curious, why would not having stalks be different for drivers in England? It seems like many people are adjusting to stalkless better than they thought; I'm including Model S & X, drivers, too. Thanks for your thorough and honest review!
maybe Tesla could add an Indicator FSD solution. So the car will auto indicate even when not in FSD. In the US we don't signal/indicate in round a-bouts.

Stalks don't make any difference - you soon get used to it - as Elon says, the best part is no part
I love the Highland, but waiting for maybe Juniper but definitely the Model 2
Yes they do it’s 90% left and right turns
Tesla is literally insane for having a crappy indicator. It is a dealbreaker
Brillent Review Mark , many thanks for posting. Just ordered and paid for my new model 3 today & now just waiting for delivery date confirmation. Thank you so much again for your top review. Tesla are lucky to have you reviewing their cars.
Thanks so much David, that's really kind of you and massively appreciated!

Excellent review mate ! Videography and editing was insanely good !
Don’t remove them in the first place…
Musk is so DUMB 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Yeah, that would be a good idea and it’s a shame Tesla didn’t foresee this small issue and plan for it. That’s kind of what I meant in the video by this not being an improvement, I love improvements and things changing if it makes things easier and faster. And that’s the problem this isn’t easier or faster
Agreed that the lack of signal stalk is a regression, seems like a no brainer to include them when the signal buttons are rotating on the wheel
Yeah, it’s possible to get used to them, but I just prefer them how they were before on the stock
i have one getting delivered soon. the stalks are the big thing for me.. really hope i get used to it lol
The morons at Tesla don't give a damn about the ergonomics of the interface. Jerks.
You’re supposed to put your turn signal well before you turn. So how would it be an issue when the wheel is rotating?
Thanks so much Paul! Glad you enjoyed the video. Sorry to hear it's a deal breaker for you. I would recommend maybe booking a test drive.
Enhance auto is already working on a stalk kit. It will apparently look and feel factory fitted. Keep an eye on their web page and socials.
@@exaturbo I will, thank you! 😀
Great review Mark. You’re exactly right with the stalks. Yes you can get use to it, yes it’s not a dealbreaker but it’s not an improvement. If you don’t live in the US, this will be a pain. No USS is also not an improvement (at least for now).
Hey Brian, thanks so much for the comment and glad you agree
If Tesla brings steer by wire to the Model 3 that may help with the turn signal buttons, since it reduces how much you have to turn the steering wheel.
Sure that would be perfect, just a shame it's not in this car
Interesting about what you said about the noise level and level of comfort. Nice to know that you now think it is quieter.
Yes the main issue is that you can’t get used to them… they always move haha
I would have an indicator button on each side. Thanks for the excellent review. Keep up the good vids. Just ordered a M3 rwd long range.
People making a big deal about the stalks. It’s a learning curve, we’ll get used to it, just like we got used to everything else.
Yeah I agree
Great review! 🎉. Agree about the stalks. I sat in one recently and the door closing sound it literally night and day improved
Thanks for the great comment, yes, the doors and boots sound really nice now, in my car, the rear door shutting sounds like a tin can 😆
the indicator button is going to be an issue for us in uk
Yeah, I think it’s fine for a lot of places in the world, but in the UK in certain cities, it could be a bit of a pain, not dealbreaker but just a pain
@@MBrown I’ve already had one person die in my arms, run over at junction, the very thought someone could step out in front of me when I was driving, because I couldn’t indicate safety doesn’t bare thinking about. I get most people are irresponsible and have little imagination but this is seriously dangerous, could result in fatalities, is not required and is a massive dealbreaker.
@@donaldduck5731 am still 50/50 on whether itis a massive dealbreaker until i test drive it in person. however, one thing we all agreed on it that this is def not a "improvement" feature.
next video idea for you " Honest review on the Tesla 3 new indicator button in UK" - (double roundabout alike)
We have round-abouts in the US but most people don't use their indicators in them.
It's a legal thing you have to do here, as people enter the roundabout and wouldn't know if they can enter
Great review! No stalks sucks because it's low-key kinda satisfying with the feedback you get from it while driving. I'd only consider the new model 3 if they added it back it tbh.
Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video
@@alexanderelsen9185that might be the case in the US. That is not the case in Canada. You need to signal your exit from the round about.
Hey, glad to hear that and hope you enjoy your new Tesla you’re going to love it
Not upgrading to a new car cause the stalks aren’t ideal seems a little drastic..
I'm ruling it out until it gets stalks.
@@MBrown Totally agree. My bad, I should’ve stated that I was talking to the people in the comments
@@Natak222 thanks 🙏🏼
Hi Mark, I too agree with you about the indicator stalks. I have no problem with forward/reverse via screen. I suppose FSD would remove the problem, the car could do the indicating, but until then it is a menace on mini roundabouts. I don't think it is a deal breaker, a well known after market supplier intends to come out with add on indicator stalks using bluetooth via the OBD port. I think Tesla would be wise to at least offer it as a UK/EU retrofit option. It's almost a case of spoiling a nice ship for a ha'poth of tar!
Problem is FSD also doesn’t work either yet! I really hope Tesla start delivering finished products 😂
Awesome video man! Dang your video quality is crispy, very professional production quality and useful information.
Hey, thanks so much, I really appreciate that I tried to spend a little extra time colour grading the video so it’s nice when someone notices it 👍
Nice one Mark, thanks as ever. How do we buy you a beer?
Hey Dan, oh thanks so much I’ve popped a link in the description box of the video which should take you to Buy Me a Coffee
Thanks Mark. All done.
@@MBrown Pity Tesla couldn't wait until AFTER they implemented 48v steer by wire to do this in that case!
i test drove this for an hour and went around several roundabouts. it's a slight annoyance sure, but if you cross your right hand over the wheel and grab it where the indicators are before beginning the turn, then just pull the wheel into position, your hand is already where it needs to be to indicate out, and it become second nature. knowing which button to press is also easy too - as with a stalk, the correct button is always going to be the one corresponding to the direction you're about to turn the wheel. in the end i felt that the buttons are superior for 99% of driving situations, with that 1% being right turns at roundabouts.
the problem is most people don't wanna accept new thing and not willing to try. People like to stick to whatever they are familiar with. It is not that hard to adapt, i been driving it for a month+ i feel it is easier and more comfortable.
Hey, thanks for the comment, but that’s not the case here when we have a roundabout as the steering wheel turns up the buttons are no longer right is up and left us down at the top right is right and left is left and then when the wheel turns upside down, they actually reverse the placement, so it’s it’s quite hard to work out where they are and obviously each roundabout is different in size, so the buttons can be completely different place every time
Why does Tesla remove the indicator stalks? Sure it save some cost, but .......
Yeah, Tesla should put them back on
love your videos Mark - just a quick one, with the indicators, do they work with voice control? I know the same problem would occur as the new way of accessing the voice control is the button on the steering wheel but just wondered as there's only one to worry about!
Hey Nick thanks for the comment, no unfortunately there are no voice commands for the indicators... I guess it could be added in a software update but not on this one currently.
@@MBrown i thought as much! would potentially fix the issue - but would be better if you could voice activate the voice commends as per "hey siri" or "alexa!" - great review as always mate
I think it looks great, but liveable in every day use?
Yes, overall, I think this is a great upgrade and some aspects wouldn’t annoy some people, I would definitely recommend taking it for a test drive
Thanks Chris, yes it's not a deal breaker, just not as good as stalks
Did you find out what the speedometer looking button does? And how do you activate autopilot?
Yes, that just is for auto pilot and cruise control so it captures the speed you’re at when you press it like a speed limiter
Great review. I already have Model Y 2022. I would like to buy new M3 Highlander for my wife.
Good choice!
At 16:19 , clearly the cameras cannot detect nearby objects like the ultrasonic sensors can.
In this example, there are even strongly contrasting colors, and still the TeslaVision cameras cannot get the job done.
And this is 'state of the art' for 2024?
They really should use sensors and cameras, would be great then
@@MBrown Agreed, but Elan has decided to remove essential sensors from the car, to increase profits at Tesla Corporation.
Hey Johnny yes they’re not great. I think just put back in the sensors. Problem solved.
i agree it is the best car to have. mine is being delivered on the 30th jan. i cannot wait. upgrade fom a vw id 3
Hey Bollas you’re really going to enjoy the car!
I’m very curious how easy it is to replace the HVAC filter compared with the previous Model 3
Yeah I've had mine three years and would like to change it
ultrasonics is pretty irrelevant for me especially since parking is parking. I just need cameras and eyes. Removing ultrasonics will cut that cost completely from the car for a function that isn't essential and make it cheaper
The lack of stalk is interesting.
Hey Will, no, I can confirm the window wipers are exactly the same in terms of functionality, and going off when it’s not even raining as my 2021 😆
I am so sick of people complaining about the stalks.
Ironically the people who say it’s good also haven’t tried it at all 😂
In the USA I don’t think stalks are a problem as you don’t have a huge amount of roundabouts. You primarily drive straight indicate left or right so it’s easy and a non issues. In Europe we have these so you have to legally indicate when the wheel could be outside down, to the side etc
Do you indicate when exiting a roundabout?
Hey yes that would be good, shame it doens’t do that already
Would be interesting how the efficiency of this new SR compares to the outgoing SR, as that is an already very efficient vehicle.
It just needs steer by wire and we'll be fine in Europe as well I think? But the fact that left and right are above each other seems weird?
yeah one either side would be good
You should indicate before you do your turn or manoeuvre, I don’t think no stalk should matter if you use your indicators properly
What about on a roundabout where your wheel is turned halfway?
You indicate as you come up to the roundabout, that bits fine, but you have to legally (here) indicate off and this is when the button can be to the side, upside down or moving
Thank you for this great and honest review Mark. Greetings from Prague …
Thanks so much for the comment really appreciate it
Seems like those indicators would be a better fit for a steer by wire system.
Yes, I agree, I think if it had steer by why it would be a non-issue completely
Hey Bobbie yes that’s a lot of money and to be honest the difference isn’t that huge so I would go with the saving
I’m not sure it is hardware 4 - the Sheffield Tesla Service Centre couldn’t confirm when I enquired
Hey so it got about 250 miles but it’s been super cold… my long range gets about that too, so I think in summer this will be close to 300
@@MBrown thanks Mark, that is quite promising and what I have been expecting in spring and summer months. Thanks for the fast response. Keep the vids coming.
@@giggy1995 thanks I think you’re really gonna enjoy the car, and after the winter months it gets so much easier. Will the old key fobs for the Tesla Model 3 work with the new 2024 Highland vervsion of the TM3?
I’m not 100% sure I think they will
Yes, great review! Only thing worth adding on the missing indicator stalk is that the existing one in the Model 3 isn't great, feels cheap and not always responsive.
Hey James thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the review. Yes very true.
Thanks Mark good review, have you done a review on Y v 3?
Not yet, but I’m hoping to do one whenever the next model Y comes out as the model Y might be my next car
Hey John, thanks for the comment yes I forgot to include that in the video, but front is much worse. I really think they need to add back in USS
Given it is Tesla, then changes should be 3.01, 3.02 for small changes, and refreshes 3.1, 3.2 etc.
Thanks for the comment
The lack of stock indicators is the reason why I’m looking at other EVs. And the yoke steering is ridiculous.
Hey Ryan sorry to hear that! It might be worth test driving one: www.tesla.com/referral/mark20725
Can you clarify why the range stated 258miles in a full charge? I thought is was 318/344 depending on wheels. I know it won’t achieve this, but what happened to the 60+ miles on your car?
Hey Ed, yes that’s correct. The range does change on a Tesla depending on whether conditions and it was 3 to 5°C that day
That’s news to me.
Great review. The indicator and camera parking would stop me updating my Tesla
Hey Paul, thanks so much for the comment, I definitely recommend maybe doing a test drive to see what you think
first of all a great review very well done Mark thank you.
But what do you do when the steering wheel is upside down, and the buttons reverse their positions?
Missing stalks is a deal breaker in Europe for most people
@@MBrown signal before the turn not in the middle
As for the parking camera, I have an Audi A4 Avant and I just use the camera on that when I am reversing (plus the noise beeps) so not sure what the difference is?
Hey, sorry I’m not sure what you mean, do you mean that they are same on the both cars?
@@MBrown Yes. Both had/have cameras, not sure what else you need?
@@markanthonyharrison5153 the model Y doesn’t have any parking sensors
With the stalks removed...does it have the standard "3 blink" indication when overtaking?
No, it doesn’t have this. You can simply tap the button and then once you’ve gone over the lines it will automatically turn them off.
I picked my new Model 3 up on Saturday and you soon get used to the indicators even on roundabouts and the gear change on the screen is simple. I want to get a boot mat and remember last year you promoting a particular brand. Mark could you please send me a link. Thanks Scott
Hey Scott, oh great enjoy the car! Here's the link: teslafans.co.uk/discount/Tesla2023MarkDiscount
Thank you and keep up the great work.
I agree with you that the turn signal stalk should stay. Or move the turn signal control to the screen.
In the past, lightly push the turn signal stalk up or down for a three flash sequence. For a continuous signal, push the stalk fully up or down. How does it work in the new setting/control?
From when I had the car, that doesn’t work anymore
@@MBrownTesla new Model Y, and all other models, should move turn signal stalk back. There is a safety issue.
You didn’t try the Vision system at the front of the car. I wonder if it can see a small height wall?
Thanks for sharing 👍👍
Maybe color code the buttons blue is left/red is right so it’s easier to find in a hurry
Hey Ray, that’s a great idea. I’m sure someone will come up with a little sticker we can put on them
That would totally confuse me, I spend a lot of time at sea where Left (port) is red and right (starboard) is green.
Great review there. Sometimes it shows when someone’s a professional automotive journalist. And love the quality and editing.
Much appreciated! I’m just an amateur but glad you enjoyed it
I think missing the 360 camera is worst than crying about no stalk. This is where co like BYD excel - super clear cameras. Still love my M3 tho🎉
Yes, I do think a 360 camera would be a little better than these moving clouds, at least that way you can see the things yourself
I want to see a video of someone doing old fashion hand “indicators “ when leaving a roundabout!
Hey I'll do a comparison on my next video!
At 40 mph he says no noise is coming. But I can clearly hear noise louder than I have in my BMW 3 at 40mph.
Hey Leon, it’s tricky to say as you’re picking up the audio on a small microphone, BMWs are of course very very good and in my opinion, some of the best cars at noise reduction. I’m hoping to test drive the new BMW electric series if BMW let me
Yes, please test i4. I like that car except it doesn’t have anterior boot and it has middle separator at the back.
While I do understand why people would have reservations about the missing indicator stock I must say I really do not understand why people make a fuss about shifting on screen. It is far from being the worst gear selector I've ever seen. In fact I found it pretty intuitive.
Yeah the gears are pretty cool, unless space you only use them once or twice during a drive anyway
The indicator should be a squeeze feature
haha yes that would be good
Great video review Mark, I’m aware the adaptive high beam assist update has been enabled in the EU, are you aware if it has or will be in the UK ? I’ve not seen anything anywhere to say it has been ?? 🤞🙏🏼
Not been added yet as far as I've seen, there are rumours any day now they may come
@@MBrown thanks for the update Mark, much appreciated 👍
I never turn on my signals in a roundabout. Because even if there is a stock and you are turning you would have to take on hand to turn the signal which is not safe anyway.
Well, when you use a steering wheel, your hand brushes past it, so you don’t really need to think about it too much.
It’s illegal requirement here in the UK that you must indicate off roundabouts so it’s pretty important here
Thanks for another great video Mark. Have a beer on me 🍺
Wow, thanks so much, really appreciate it
Nice all round review Mark.
Thanks for the comment to me the head clearance felt about the same. However, I didn’t have my car with me at the time to do a side-by-side
They got rid of the middle seat heater because almost nobody used it. Tesla pull fleet data about the use of functions and features, and they found that barely anyone used it, so what’s the point in having it? Might as well remove it and save money 👍
I agree with your assessment Mark. Bring back a stalk and sensors.
Thank Johnny . Thumbs up 👍
My wife just got a 2023 model 3, and I’m thinking of trading my Mach e for one of these. I don’t live the scant chargers in LA for non-Tesla EVs
Hey enjoy, I think you’re really going to like it
one question about the indicators: will a voice command turn the indicators on? something like turn left or left turn indicator? thanks Mark
Hi Kenny, great question and I can confirm when I had the car there were no voice commands. You could use to change the indicators, however, they could always add this in a future update if Elon is reading.
Thanks for the responses Mark I hope Elon is reading your reviews
The steering wheel on the "passenger side" throws me off every time lol but nice video thanks for your review!
Ha ha, yeah it’s like that for me when I watch American videos
@@MBrown
Fair review - thanks Mark.
Just got my first Tesla ('21 M3 LR) in part thanks to your reviews. Only a week in so far but I love it.
I'm just down the road from you and I rely on superchargers too so maybe see you at the Trafford Centre sometime 😂
Thanks so much Jonny, Yes i'll see you there!
How does the standard range speaker system compare with the old long range, I’m very tempted to save 10 grand and go for the standard range but worried about it sounding a bit tinny
Yeah I’d say it’s hard to tell much of a difference the standard range isn’t quite as bass heavy but still very very good
Great review and you spotted all the issues I found when I did a recent test drive. I think some improvements would be as you said, add back the stalks for indicators, also where the gear function is in the roof of the car this should light up automatically as it senses your hand. Agree that it's a great car just got to work out how to afford it 😊!
Thanks so much! Yeah it's such a nice car... bring the stalks back and it's almost perfect for me!
Great video - what camera are you using to film inside the car?
Thanks so much, so the shot behind my head as I’m driving is the DJI Action 4, my main camera is a Sony ZV-E1 and I also use the DJI Pocket 3
Beautiful car. Plan to buy one. They could raise one button slightly to differentiate it from the other. Vision parking should improve in time.
Thanks Ken, yes I think that would be a good change, or one either side of the wheel.
great video buddy! i personally do not think its a problem for USA drivers but as you mentioned if i did live in Europe it would be a bit frustrating
I totally agree! In the USA it would be a non-issue
Thanks so much for your comment and I really hope you enjoy your new car 👍
Thanks for the comment, where are you based? If you’re in the USA, you’ll be ok. In England, you might want to give it a test drive
Yeah that might help a little 👍
Is there a voice command “ indicate right “ etc?
At the moment, there are no voice commands for the indicators, hopefully they can add this in an update
Third-party manufacturer of S3XY Buttons may have a workaround. TSportline will have a wheel with stalks.
Brilliant review video, nice and concise with honest feedback from a current owner.
Cheers, thanks so much Chris
