Making Large and Colorful Circles with Alcohol Ink

  • Wanted to try my hand at making some more bubbles/circles again, but with a little more detailing. This is so much fun to do! Really can stretch your creative abilities. Hope you enjoy this video, let me know what you want to see next!
This technique was requested by a follower and is inspired by the paintings of Stacey Oflanagan (thecolourfulheartist on Instagram). There are several other artists out there who also use this technique in their works, including Artist Till Death (found on UA-cam). I personally have not watched their videos, but taught myself my own method of making these fun circles. My advice is to use whatever method works best for you! :)
Materials used: Ranger Ink Shell Pink, Purple Twilight, Sandal, Botanical, Pool, Cool Peri, Wild Plum, Coral, and Pinata Rich Gold. Posco pens (but any acrylic pen will work!)

LOVE this video Teresa 💙💙💙 I have just watched this for the second time....I tried one of these a few weeks ago, much smaller scale as it was my first like this ...my glasses didn’t leave as clear a circle as yours did, so I went over them with a brush dipped in alcohol.....I just realised after watching this my inks were probably not dry enough when I lifted the glasses.....I don’t have a heat gun, just a strong dryer and my airbrushes.....I would love one of those dryers you were just gifted, but seem to be not found in Australia unless you buy one which is shipped from the US but our plugs for the power are different....anything close to what you have is at least 1000 watts or more, I wanted just the low 500 watt....oh well looks like I will have to miss out, every time they bring something new out the speed and heat is just getting higher and higher...lol... I want LOW .....I have been looking for one for over a year now, think it’s time to give up, they are definitely not making appliances lower wattage sadly 😢 great video and Thanks for taking the time to share....I will give this one another go ....I will just dry the ink with my airbrushes 😄😄💕💕🎨🎨🖌🖌

If you don't have a heat gun try using a blow dryer and less alcohol. Otherwise put the glasses on and let it set overnight.😉

      Teresa Kovalak thanks Teresa
I will try that, leave overnight ...my hairdryer is so strong it would push the glasses lol 😂 its 2000 watt! Only used it to dry the dog after his bath 😂😂

In place of glass jars, cups, glasses, why not use different diameters of pipe..copper, iron, aluminum, plastic? Cookie cutters might work but the idea is to allow the inner circle to dry along the same time as the area surrounding the pipes. Just an idea that came to me while watching you're video.

What a fun technique with alcohol ink! Really like how the largest circle turned out. Now, I will be having my daughters and myself be on the hunt for glass shot glasses. In the meantime, I have some plastic ones that I’ll try. This was fun watching you make marvelous colorful circles, using alcohol ink. Thanks for the idea. BTW, I finally got a set of Poska pens. They are sooo much fun to play with. The Sharpie white and black paint marker works well too.

This was excellent. Tedious and relaxing process! At the end, I saw a Poodle with sunglasses. Towards the right, is the face. I wonder what would be the results if we found a heavy Tube replacement for the glasses? Then let it air dry? Without the manipulation of a heat tool? Just curious. The dotting is awesome. If I understand correctly, we can use alcohol to remove the ink.... same day, but come back later to Add, gel pen, acrylic pen, etc. what about adding more colors of ink later? So many questions. Thank You for this excellent video. The real time is appreciated.

Hi Teresa, do you happen to know the model number for the Conair hair dryer? I can’t seem to find it online or on Amazon. Thanks! -Mimi

It’s actually called a “hot air brush”. It looks like an electric round brush with a cord attached to the end. If you type that in the search bar on Amazon, you’ll find it. Hope it helps!

My question, too. She mentioned Yupo when showing the small white squares, but didn't mention the large sheet was Yupo. thanks for asking, Miria!

What was the ratio of alcohol ink to isopropyl alcohol in your small containers?

    • @TeresaKovalak
      @TeresaKovalak  5 років тому

I just give a good little squeeze, so it would be about 3 tablespoons of alcohol to a teaspoon or a 1/2 teaspoon of the ink. I hope that helps you out.😘💕🎨🖌

If you rewatch your video, I swear if you took a professional picture from above during Every step of your process, I can only imagine you would be able to sell prints of every one with all the glasses still in place! the actual composition and effect that gives is Mind blowing??
I was watching it and still thinking Wow how does that look like that!

I know everyone re-watches their videos before publishing, but you are making teaching videos without maybe seeing your own potential, right in front of your face! PLEASE ask your friends if I'm right lol
and also you have my permission to delete this comment ASAP, before anyone else thinks I'm onto something also!
I'd buy a print of any one of the full process btw....👌
