Hello, a question... Do I need to have a patch? If I wanted to sashiko the elbows on my hoodie, which is new, would I need a patch? Do you recommend a patch? Or just a sashimo pattern? Thank you
It depends if you're repairing a hole or just adding decoration. The fabric patch is there to replace the fabric missing from the hole and add strength. If the hoody is new and not damaged the thread alone will be fine :)

@@lucyharwood7564 Quilters use these pens too but there is controversy over them. They are not designed for fabric and can leave white ghost marks. If fabric gets very cold the marks will return. So use with care.
