Insane. Their best song
one of if not the longest outro on a stones song. also the best.
This is pure FIRE, dynamite, sempex, tnt for the ears - EARGASMIC!
You can't get more nuts and more genius than that. The rhythm is pure insanity. Sax and guitar feeding off each other. Each and everyone is killing it. The craziest trance. I love this song!
This is one of "The Rolling Stones' best songs from an endless list. The guitar riffs are legendary.
I think Mark Knoffler said it best, that sometimes when the lyrics are done, the instruments aren't ready to call it a day !
That's Perfect!
M y favorite Stones era.. Mick Taylor 👍
Funky, jazzy, blues rock perfection!! And can we give the cymbal work some recognition? 🙂
As great as the guitar is on this song--and it's very great--the drumming is spectacular. It's not flashy; it's just perfection.
A friend who's a very accomplished and versatile drummer maintains Charlie Watts was the King of Just What the Song Needed and the glue that held The Stones together all these years.
@@kevinb3812I’ve heard the same thing said about Ringo. I’ll grudgingly give the crown to Charlie, but since he’s left us, the title can be properly bestowed upon Sir Richard. Rest well Charlie.
One of my all time favorite stones cuts as a guitar player remember when this came out. .. man getting old.... thank u lord.... just kick ass .......
From what I understand, the ending of the song was really a Jam session and was not supposed to be recorded, but whoever was in the sound booth when they did this kept recording and the band liked it so much that they decided to put it on the album Sticky Fingers.
That's my favourite part of the song. 😁
This is my favorite Stones song because of the jam late in the song.
I read that as well !! Such talented musicians!!
Recorded in 69/70 released in 71
One of their best. Great guitar and sax solos.
1971 was a seriously great year for music. Every genre was well represented.
When you paused the first time - I thought just wait for it . I was in a wedding a long time ago and the bridal party danced to this - so fun
That was Bobby Keys on sax, he's played with everybody. Born and raised in Texas.
Biggest smile I've ever seen on Harri's face--at the transition to the instrumental.
❤❤❤❤The BIGGEST R&R band ever !!! This one’s always on my playlist !! The days when musicians were purely talented!!!
Great reaction to this masterpiece!! Keith’s Open G guitar tuning during the first half of Knocking is so dirty. Gritty, 70’s NYC sound.
The second half jam is iconic Mick Taylor. Fabulous!! Rock on brother.
A top 20 song ever by anybody. Mick's vocals, the gritty guitars and Charlie really beating them. The instrumental break with saxophonist Bobby Keys is legendary. Not a bad note in this song. This is the epitome of funk-rock fusion.
That is what I call a kick-ass, funky rock and roll song. Mick was in his prime that day, as were the other members of the band. Great comments Harri!!
This is one of my favorite Rolling Stones songs.
Mick Taylor Replaced Brian Jones on guitar in the Stones after He died. He is playing along Keith in this song. He was probably the most technically proficient guitars the Stones ever had. He played in the following Albums Let It Bleed (1969), Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! The Rolling Stones in Concert (1970), Sticky Fingers (1971), Exile on Main St. (1972), Goats Head Soup (1973) and It's Only Rock 'n Roll (1974). He spent around 5 years with the Stones and then Ron Wood replaced him when He quit! Bobby Key played sax here!, He appears on albums by the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Harry Nilsson, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, George Harrison, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker ...
Taylor replaced Jones roughly a month before Brian's passing.
Probably the most technically proficient guitarist in the Stones? He's the most technically proficient musician the band ever had, and it's not even close.
@@fuchsiaswing8545 I would give that to C Watts, not Mick.
@@kevinhennessey3189 Not a chance. Taylor was leaps and bounds better (yes, on a technical level) than everyone else in the Stones -- that's by Charlie’s own admission.
The great Mick Taylor replaced the great multi instrumentalist Brian Jones before he died. Just for the record.
R.I.P. Charlie Watts. The Stones were on fire during this era of the band!
My friend, nothin' was planed - it's a session and somebody forgot put off recording and then they had this MASTERPIECE!
one of my favourite songs of all time.
Ha! I was just listening to this CD yesterday. Perfect background music for driving thru the desert on a crisp fall day. I consider this song as being among the best by the Stones. Used to have it on vinyl. The whole album is amazing
Rolling Stones Steely Dan Fleetwood Mac, and so many others, and Blues, Jazz, and Louie Armstrong.,... And on we go with great music, to bring us together smiling.,..........
This is my favorite Stones song. It is from the "Sticky Fingers" album. Every song on that album is golden!
One of my favorite drum beats of all time!!!
Those rolls on the snare are epic!!!
🔥 🔥 🔥
Just a beautiful hurricane of music……. Incredible song
Saw the Stones in '75. Amazing guitarist Mick Taylor. ;-)
Played a saxophone.
Then Ronnie Wood at the Kingdome at '81.
Whether that was a direct Fela Kuti influence or not is highly immaterial. The Stones drew influence from all possible sources and then turned total musical ignorants like myself on to whole new worlds.
Can't thank them enough for an endless journey of learning.
Harri, Bobby Keys was the Rolling Stones Sax player for year.. He passed away a couple of years ago. Great Documentary on him
It’s an excellent recent documentary on Bobby Keys! One of my favorite Stones docs of all time, just for the stories of him being Keith’s party buddy over the years since he was the only one who could keep up with him. Lol.
It’s called “Every Night’s A Saturday Night”, and is available to stream on Amazon Prime currently.
I’d highly recommend anyone reading this to look it up and check it out right away, such a great sax player and a great guy who was included on some of the very beat cuts the Stones ever did, as well as his diverse history Touring with great Rock, Soul, and R&B artists as a young teenager.
Thanx Harri. This is my favorite Stones tune.
One of my absolute favorites from them!! So amazing!! Had been featured in many movies! Good Fellas come to mind … they have many many amazing bangers! Waiting on a friend is not a banger but well worth listening to!!
I'm glad you were groovin' on this just like I was! That song gets me going! Everything came together on this baby! I love it.
Charlie Watts was a funky Jazz drummer at heart, so the funk groove came from his natural swing. Keith Richards' guitarwork - no wonder we've always called him 'The Human Riff'. Keith's riffs have always been funky, right from the 60s days of 'Satisfaction' and '19th Nervous Breakdown'. Have you tried 'Rip This Joint' or 'Rocks Off' from 'Exile on Main Street'? They will rock your head off!!!
I really love your channel Harribest. Big fan and loyal watcher...greetings from Michigan U.S.A🥁🎸👍
Great tune.. Fave Stones tunes from this era: "Time waits for No-one"... and "You got the Silver" (Keith).. cool reaction!!
Ooooh, one of my favorite Stones songs. Been a fan since '64
What a song absolutely brilliant
I generally don't give much time to these "reaction" channels. They are a dime a dozen. This one, however, really surprised me. Thoughtful, intelligent, musically knowledgeable commentary. You not only understand and appreciate the Stones, but you
understand their influences and their musical context. Well done, sir.
Best jam song ever!
One of the best openings of all time. Note that none of the series of riffs are the same.
This has to be in the top 3 best Rolling Stones songs.
Miss You. It's si funky
My fav tune from these Icons Harri!! Luv it
Knew you'd like this one! Bobby Keys (R.I.P.) on sax and Mick Taylor on lead guitar. Please also do their song "Time Waits for No One." Another one not to miss.
In my top 5 of Stones songs 🎵 👌 🎶 ♥️ 😌 🙌
Thank you for letting me know about Fela Kuti....nothing like the saxophone gets me all in to listen
My favourite Stones album, and one of the all time great rock albums..the interplay between Keith and Mick Taylor, the great Bobby Keys wailing away on that fabulous sax solo, Charlie's tremendous back beat holding it together and the final guitar solo from Mick Taylor..it didn't get any better than this. Check out the live version on their Live Licks album and also on the from the vault series..Sticky Fingers at the Fonda..
The Albums Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on main street, The Stones were at the height of their creativity and music. They were also very smart, they kept recordings of all the songs they worked on, so even if it didn't make the album, they would use them for later albums. so many great songs for you to listen to.
I think of the movie “Blow” with Johnny Depp every time I hear this song! Great reaction
The sax player is Bobby Keys one of the greatest players ever. He has been playing on hits since since the late 50's and played for all of the greats. He probably influenced your favorite sax player.
Well chosen JK Clare. Enjoyed this one for sure. 👍✌👏
They were my favorite group from 3rd grade to 6th grade, (1973-1976). I loved all of their music at that time. After that time, Peter Frampton came on, then Led Zeppelin. But I still love the Stone's older music. The newest music, I can do without. And I hate that. I'm still impressed that 70 year olds can dance around in the way that they do. They are timeless! I still love the Stones, but I worshipped them back in the day...
Very good song, Very good reaction!
This is the good stuff.
Such a great song from a fantastic album (Sticky Fingers). Bobby Keys on sax, he played with Delaney and Bonnie (you had a live song from them recently), Joe Cocker, John Lennon, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and became the Stone's go to for many many albums and tours. More Stones funky songs: Monkey Man, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Stray Cat Blues, Casino Boogie, Soul Survivor, Dancing With Mr. D, Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker), Live With Me, Brown Sugar, I can go on.... Great reaction, Harri!
Excellent Rolling Stones song JK. Great choice!
This is a classic....A+... top of their game
I do not remember hearing this but I freaking love it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
Yes! The funkiest groove. Blew your mind. Love it!
Great job Harri! The Stones were at the top of their game here!
The musical outro of this song is a jam session that was accidentally recorded because a studio engineer left the recording equipment on after they had finished playing the song which was originally about 2 1/2 minutes.
Years ago I shared an apartment with two hippies. We had a lot of musical equipment. We got kicked out of the apartment because of this song. We were pumping it through a couple of old Peavy amplifiers. The landlord had had enough and told us we were out! Good Times! Good Times indeed
You went out with a blazing Rock & Roll Tribute!
This I think, this is one of the best Stones songs. The instruments are all blasting on this tune. And the ending I wished went on forever. "As Tears Go By" got me hooked. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and JK Clark. Cheers From Canada 🇨🇦
This was my daughter’s first concert!!😂😂. She was “4 years old “!!! Crazy parents 😏!
Such a great song !! One of my favorites...glad you reacted to it!
Had to listen again, such a downtown groove. YES! ☮️❤️👏👏
Great reaction Harri! Love Love Love this track as well! Many Cheers D!!
Legend has it that the Santana-like second half was improvised on the spot. Never made the Kuti connection but it makes sense.
These songs never get old! Just fantastic! Great pick. Harri, I always wondered about the “cocaine eyes” too! 😂🌺✌️
Look how many of their songs are absolutely timeless... amazing.
Great tune one of favs
Late Summer, sun's descending, and you're driving home from an assignation. Part 2 of this song kicks in and whirls through your mixed emotions.
NOW THATS TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved Fela. He was a great musician and human right activist. The late Bobby Keys is playing sax on this song.
Timeless.
For funky Stones, do 'Dance Little Sister"
Great song I love this
Rocks off next from the stones Harri !! Brilliant reaction as always
One of the best songs ever recorded.
Fantastic jam.. great commentary. 👍🎸🎷
Song was released in 1971. Bobby Keyes is the sax player. The final instrumental section was a jam. The lead is Mick Taylor not Keith Richards. TheStones at the height of their creative power.
One of my favorite Stones songs
The opening riffs at the beginning of the song are Keith.
Keith richards could not tune mick Taylor’s guitars.
I love that Sax!! ❤
The first and second riffs are Keith, and Mick comes in right after the first sax tremolo.
Love your air-con in the background. And that include its colour. Coffee yellowish-brown!
This is in my top stones songs - SLAVE is so groovin too. Please consider it. It's on my daily favorites. I love Fela! I found him from KCRW Morning becomes eclectic - Then I went and saw Femi Kuti live. It was an AMAZING SHOW I couldn't stop dancing in my seat until a girl grabbed me to dance in the aisle with her for the rest of the concert. #waternogetenemy
Yes sir!!!!!!!
Slave is one bad ass song! Its got more groove and funk than this one and that's saying something!
Love KCRW! I listen to eclectic 24 frequently. Been turned onto a lot of great artists there
On sax "The Ruby Lipped Essence of Lubbock Texas," Bobby Keys. (actually Slaton, TX.)
Enjoyed that immensely! Thank you Harri!
For more funk try "Fingerprint Files"
Mick and the boys definitely had some funk going on, Harri. Great song!
Definitely their funkiest and overall amongst the best they have done!
Over the many Stone’s concerts I went to I kept wanting this to be on the pl
playlist. Finally happened last and I was gobsmacked!!! Thanks for checking this out and hearing the great Bobby Keyes, RIP.☮️❤️
Bobby Keys on sax here. Mick Taylor on lead solo guitar. Keith Richard's wasn't the only guitarist for the Stones. Mick Taylor and Ron Wood both did a lot of time with them especially in the 70's. One of the best Stones songs ever. Only thing close to it is Midnight Rambler.
Yup, that song is awesome.🤘
Bobby Keys wrote a really funny autobiography, "Every Night's a Saturday Night", which naturally spends a lot of ink on his time as the go-to sax player for the Stones. He talks about this song in it...it's a good read! As for this song, the call and response between the guitars is something I didn't notice until a couple years ago. Right before Keith playing that killer opening riff NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH!, the other guitar (which could have been either Mick T or Keith) plays the same riff but much more quietly. You almost have to try to hear it, but once you do it makes this great 50+ year-old song even better. Of course, some people heard that call/response from the very first time they heard the song, and others may not hear it at all. It's pretty subtle compared to Keith's avalanche of chords.
Great song selection! I was grooving right along with you ---
This is probably my favorite Stones song . If you want to hear The Stones being really funky , check out Miss You from the Some Girls album or Fingerprint File from the Its Only Rock And Roll album .
What a GREAT break! Sax? Bongos? Funky is right.
I enioyed this song as much as you have! 👍
Great reaction, Harry!
