Love this it really brings me back to reefing earth and start appreciating corals for there beauty not the price since then I’ve been so much happier with my reefing journey
Always love seeing you highlight less popular species of coral! I’ve got a few different species of turbinaria in my tank and seeing the differences in form between them is one of my favorite parts of the whole aquarium
Nice to hear your into freshwater too. I like both. I must admit I used to really dislike your videos. But I kept watching and am now a big fan. Really love Reef Therapy and look forward to every episode.
Out of all the topics this from reef therapy and reef builders UA-cam channel, the LFS edition really hits home cause it was through LFS where me and my dad really connected growing up. We never had a close relationship but every weekend this was the one thing where we spent quality time with each other. Anyways on my LFS crawl here in San Diego, I scored a Holy grail micromussa mini colony for $80 🎤💧
Thanks for sharing your story, I feel where you're coming from because my mother and I hit up all the stores in new areas when we traveled on road trips.
I think I have one of those lobophyllia corymbosa in my tank, granted not some cool pink/red version like you, mine seems a bit "plain" with a brown rim and orange center but got that from a tank teardown and it was all sorts of beat up with aiptasia growing on the side, bubble algae up the wazzoo the amount of surgery I had to do to get to something that I was willing to put in my tank was kind of scary. But I have a few individual polyps of it now so it's all good and it seems to be very happy in a lower light environment.
I appreciated your tip last week. I went to my local LFS, which had 20% off. I got a small haul: a true Platygyra, a Euphyllia paraancora, a Blasomussa wellsi, a Ricordea florida, and an Atillogorgia. It was a blast. And a great tip, thank you.
@@ReefBuildersVideo I agree it's how we should be discussing them. Though I am biased and trained in botanical names. So, Euphyllia paraancora 'Australian Gold' is how I really want to write it :)
When you get a Copperband can you explain your process of picking it out, quarantine/acclamation, and just how you keep him alive, and eating. I recently failed at my first attempt of keeping one. It died after a week in my 29G quarantine I was feeding live brine shrimp, Any help for the next attempt would be much appreciated!!
Betting you got the Zebra Pleco's from About Fish Inc/ Shermin Tank?? The one you have is a character (coming out of hiding when you have guests;) Quite the selection you ended-up with shopping locally;) And like a great artist, you see the potential of each coral to become "happy" and to become part of a masterpiece;) And all the Latin names memorized, wow.. (aka Dr Bob Ross of the coral world;) BTW, I have noticeable new growth on several corals you traded me for 😀, TY!! And for all you and your wife do for this hobby and all the critters!
Hi jake, great selection on the new corals. I'm just wondering what your routine maintenance is on those coral trays, everything looks like it's doing great.
Sadly we've lost our LFS that deal with saltwater. Been trying to find some close by but the closest found so far is 3.5 hours, approximately 175 miles.
Watching this makes me want to setup another reef tank. But I promised my wife I'd wait till we bought our next house. I don't know how I'm going to last another year without a reef tank.
G'day from Australia! I picked up what you call an Eunecia (i hope I spelled it correctly) coral a few weeks ago. It was sold as a photosynthetic gorgonian. Can you point me in the right direction where I can read up more about it?
Love the reddish stag and the westside-rainbow looking animal (tort? I'm godawful at identifying acropora lol), it's a shame all the different color morphs are basically trapped in hobby tanks around the country instead of showing up in stores and farms.
I want to see those Zebra Plecos! I used to keep them in my past life when i was doing wild Discus. Sad story, i lost my whole breeding group of 15 adults from a faulty Eheim cannister filter one day... I was crushed and couldnt even throw them away, so i stuck them in my freezer and kept them for over a year before i could throw them out. Much to my then wifes delight, haha
The new system used to be the QT and long term conditioning system so I just kept air in them for extra aeration during periods of treatment, especially antibiotic
he could open up his own store with the amount of corals he has in that place................. he does know how to grow them not a bad one there.........
Hey Jake Adams nice channel really love what you do in the saltwater hobby. I’m a beginner in the reefing hobby and at the moment my tank is really struggling I am not good at keep corals so far lol I would really like to see if u would be willing to let me pay you for an over the phone/FaceTime consultation. Being that you are so far away from where I live. I need help with coral placement and also getting my parameters and lighting right suggestions on lighting schedules and flow I jus really need an experts help and coaching on some of the corals I have and maybe what you think I should be dosing and feeding so that my corals can really grow and thrive. I watch your channel all the time but I still need that push so lmk if we can arrange something like that I would really appreciate it thanks.
Jake - I am a freshwater keeper and a salt water keeper. I'd really appreciate some fresh water videos from you. In fact, do you have the real-estate in the studio to do a bank of fresh water tanks. perhaps the area across from your salt water flats? You could really do a great service to all the areas of the fish and tank keeping hobby this way - why limit yourself?
I have four FW displays and a new one on the way but since I 'work' so much at SW I reserve the FW tanks as purely my hobby to simply enjoy. But I will be doing some videos on the new FW display which will feature lots of SW tricks and techniques
I picked up a baby Grade-A DaVinci clownfish for $48 to replace my female clown that managed to squeeze out of the tank and onto the floor when I wasn’t home. Surprisingly there hasn’t been any aggression between the clownfish since adding him, fingers crossed!
Evan and Jake have almost the same voice lol 😂 . Hey Jake is this a part time job or a full time job because I know maintenance on all those tanks is a lot of work
@@ReefBuildersVideo yep, that my lfs...I'm in Greeley....some days their colonies cost an arm and a leg...other days (the next day) super good prices. do you keep peppermints in most tanks? just for aiptasia control?
Question do you sell or trade corals?? Awesome videos like always!
Odd question but where do you get that glow rod or those long rods to help move stuff around without actually putting your whole hand in the tank
Some nice oddballs you scored. And the staghorns are mesmorizing (as always...)

nothing I can point to specifically but they love flow, love light, and really appreciate large meaty food particles
I think the first zoas are orange oxides. Looks very similar to a couple frags of it I have.
I checked my reference poster and they appear to be pink diamond zoanthids
Jake, where are sourcing those hexagonal thick tiles
hardware stores
Where do you get the hexagonal frag disc’s?

20ppm nitrate
