Today's video has been highly requested by many of you. Big Mama have reunited for a comeback and it was so much fun hearing their music for the first time in today's reaction to their Killing Voice performance on Dingo Music. Join me in breaking down some of the truly awesome vocals that they just KEEP SERVING the entire dang time! These ladies are some of the most respected vocalists in all of South Korea. After retiring from performing and starting families of their own, they are now vocal teachers in different universities and have even taught some of the artists within various kpop groups as well. Talk about passing on the torch these ladies are legends
Shin yeon-ah did most of the arrangement of their songs as I know of. That is her specialty.
She's the leader of the group, isn't she? She's doing more backup but she's such a hidden gem.
@@chilacainik Yes, she is the leader and started her career as a chorus singer, but she is also very well know for her arrangement of most of Big mama's songs.

Fun Fact: Shin Yona on the far left is the leader and the one who did most of the vocal and harmony arrangements for their music. She knows how to make each member shine. Before Bigmama, she was a backup singer adding harmonies to most of the KPOP songs. In fact, this group was first formed around her and added 3 other members with a mission to create the best vocalists group in Korea. Thank you for the great reaction video! I really love her jazzy approach to her singing
On top of that, she's the Kpop department head of Howon University and she also created the first Girl Group which debuted from a University, Azer. She put them together.❤

@@b2spirit86 They are not a team project done by professors, they came out in late 1990's and were very active in early 2000's one in white pants with writing kept active and 2 of them (from left) went to universities to teach, but they are returning as a group again recently.

I am Korean. And let me tell you about this group of singers. This group is called Big MaMa and they are known as the best female vocalists in Korea. Actually all of them are professors and they teach vocal techniques to students.

Shin Yeona "unstable" projection on the lower parts, like cutting the phrases short and etcetera, are totally on purpose to convey emotion. She has total control of that, she's a monster
Of the 4, I believe Shin Yeona's voice is most suited to producing a specific singing tonality akin to the older (70-80s) korean ballads, trot (a sub-genre of Korean pop music) and traditional korean music genre called gugak. Yes she does sound a little unstable in the beginning, but you might be able to tell that she has had exposure to those types of music (unsurprising since she is the eldest of them) and that she does some of it on purpose to convey emotion in an almost speech-like delivery. Also despite Ji Young (2nd singer) singing most of the lower alto parts, I feel that Shin Yeona provides the darkest sounding timbre amongst them. I encourage listening to the actual studio recording of these songs!

n.b. please note that after the C6... i followed the melody of the saxophone down (like a dingus cause I got too excited). It still sounds like the vocal line is up on the C6 although, all of their harmonies are so twangy that it's blending with the saxophone pretty solidly.
If this is what they're like NOW, I can only imagine how good they were back in the day. Must search.... 😉 💜

Wow, that is sooo tight...and the harmonies are extremely precise, have almost machine like precision, like a horn section. I have never heard a vocal group like this. Julia sets an engaging, high standard for reaction videos. So many reaction videos have very little meat on the bones...not the case here.

These ladies are incredible. It has been fun watching so many reaction videos of them where the reactor had no idea who these ladies were and struggled to come up with nicknames for these ladies as they just won them over with their four distinctive talented voices, soulful singing and topflight harmonies. And you were on point to talk about how it is possible to be a vocal badass at an age where many singers are hanging it up. Great reaction.

I'm a classically trained vocalist, multi-instrumental musician, and semi-professional Blues performer, who _also_ happened to pay for college with Theater scholarships. With a bit of Throat Singing and Whistle to supplement my natural range and falsetto, I can sing from C2 to C6 on any average day. I don't say all this to brag; I say it to explain the degree to which I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to music, particularly vocals. Having said that, you'll understand what it means when I say that this group made me cry...several times! DAMN!!!
Moreover, from a Music Theory standpoint, it's especially refreshing to hear a degree of melodic and chordal complexity that most of today's current Pop (and KPOP) songs don't don't have. Not only are the vocals amazing; the music itself is interesting, too. I'm 46 years old, and I officially have my first KPOP fanboy crush(es).
I saw this performance at last 10 times but I'm always blown away. They are goddess. Their vocals are just inexplicable.
Anyway they released an album this month called "Born". Please everyone listen to this masterpiece. Every member have a solo.
Big Mama and their legendary vocals mmmmmm so good. Always give me goosebumps listening to them. You should give Ailee's killing voice a listen, she's another fantastic solo artist and is about to drop a new album.

How much fun can four girls have together. These ladies are a joy to watch. Individually brilliant, together I have no adjectives adequate. I love that we have privilege of hearing these ladies with so much experience together. They are so tight. Talent doesn't have a use by.

We Koreans all agree that they sing waaaaayyyyy-ee-uh better and more mature than how they sang before. With that being said Bigmama was already lit when they first made their debut. They are well-aged wine we want to keep ourselves in Korea but honestly they deserve to be worldwide famous. Thanks for your lovely reaction video. Big MaMa...bruh i remember listening to them back in highschool with my friends and we'd try our hardest to sound like Lee Young Hyun at karaoke whilst belting 'Resignation'.

음.......쥴리아님이 ㅈ어려운 영어를 쓰진 않는데요 완전 전문적인 용어도 대체적으로 사용하지 않고 일반 회화에서도 가장 기본적인 언어로 멘트하고 있어요 약간의 호주 방언이나 숙어 정도는 있지만 공용영어 중에서도 중학생 수준에서 충분히 이해할 수 있는 영어를 구사하고 있어요 보시는 분들도 전 세계의 유튜브 영상을 즐기시려거든 약간의 영어공부는 필수가 아닐까 싶습니다 저도 학창시절에는 영어에 관심 없다가 게임과 음악 여행 때문에 영어공부를 좀 했더니 재미있는 신세계가 열리더군요 자막도 좋지만,자막은 내용을 누군가가 1차 필터링을 하는 경우가 많기 때문에 직접적인 느낌과 비판적인 내용을 알기 어렵습니다 공부해서 남주는건 아니잖아요? 그리고 누군가가 자막을 만들어주길 별 대가도 지불할 생각도 없이 입만 벌리고 기다리고 있는 심보도 별로인것 같네요

I mean they are University professors now :) Still, Big mama is an incredibly respected name among the general public here in Korea.
These ladies have been sharing their shimmering voices with us for several years. I must recommend a much older one that will touch you as it did me called His Eye Is On the Sparrow. They sing different genres. I found them quite by accident. There are 2 different videos to choose from. One was in 2014 and the newer one was 9 years ago in 2012. Both are good quality live performances but I would recommend the one from 9 years ago. I hope you will give a reaction. I think you will continue to be impressed. Always love your reactions!!!
