A pensive Symphony this, with a beautiful opening and closing, and a central 'allegro' that seems evocative of the awakening of Spring. The vocal sections remind me of those in Vaughan Williams' "Pastoral Symphony"; Rontgen's work seems more of a symphonic poem, however.
