  • Last year, I moved from crop sensor (ASP-C) to Full-frame. This was due to thinking I NEEDED something new. Upgrade, change out systems. All of the above. I regretted it, honestly and "Downgraded" only to move back... here's why:

    I completely resonate with his. I recently shifted from Full Frame to a Fuji apsc setup and I have really found myself fallen in love with photography again. A smaller camera means brining it to more places and is more enjoyable to shoot with.

      My sentiments exactly. At times, sure, Full-frame photos have a look to them but I don't think it's worth as an "everyday" type of camera.
      I gave it a go for awhile but the weight of 3 full frame lenses in your bag vs ASPC is night and day!
      Fuji for life haha

    The main problem is the camera company will tell you that the $700 crop sensor camera you have needs to be replaced by a $3500 full frame camera. I have figured out that my M6 mark II can get good images of just about anything with the lenses that I have. The last item I bought was an old FD mount Soligor 135mm f/2.8 manual focus lens with an adapter for EF-M mount. The Bokeh is better on shots from over 5 feet away. I spent less than $50 for the adapter and lens.

      True! And holding back features when knowing what we have is fully capable of more. Especially the original M being hacked to unleash it's capabilities. Love that M line, I used to have an M50 and the images I took from that time were great! Nice finds.

    Agreed! Thank you for this video. Not only is this affecting us as creatives and our funds but also the people that are being exploited in the Congo to mine the materials for these electronics. We don't need to upgrade to the latest and newest.

      The EM-5 line was a fun body to shoot with. I had a silver body since I, too am a fan of the vintage style the two share (EM5 & XT line). Great Video AF too on the Olys!

    we all fall into that rut of "Oh the new thing has to be better," but in reality, the best camera is the one you have the most time on, if I had to go on a shoot and bring back amazing photos and you gave me a brand new XYZ (I don't even know the names of the new cameras) and my current set up you would probably like the photos from my current set up a whole lot more because I have 8 years of practice behind that system.
    I learned after my 1st upgrade that you are best to use the same system till it dies on you.

    • @BrandonSoum
      @BrandonSoum  5 місяців тому +1

      True. I think this happens to a lot of us who may be starting out; I'd say the first true upgrade does mislead you in a way thinking the next jump will be that much greater...
      This is coming from getting my first camera... (Couldn't be over $300) from the next to over a grand (The X-T4)
      Of course the upgrade was significant but couldn't be more than that. Especially the times we are in.
      Thanks for watching, cheers.

    Got an 80D, looking at getting a full frame either the 5D's or R series... But my main focus rn is a 70-200 f/2.8 to go with my 11-16f/2.8 , 28-75 f/2.8 ( tokina and Tamarin respectfully)
    tempted to get another 80D or an 90D as a backup for my run and gun.... I'm so scattered by this...Ugh!!!

    • @BrandonSoum
      @BrandonSoum  5 місяців тому

      Honestly, if you are looking to go into the R line (mirrorless) - I had more fun using the R7 than my R6 (full frame) and would consider the R7 over the 80/90D. Rent it out and perhaps adapt your current lenses and see how you feel with it! I mentioned this in a earlier video of mine, if I had to have Canon again. It would be the R7.

    I think there is no one solution here, I have been back and forth between Full frame and APS-C - and both have their places, and I don't think its possible to generalise, as there is a difference, though, one should pick a system that works for their requirement/need.

    • @BrandonSoum
      @BrandonSoum  5 місяців тому

  • @p_adam19
    @p_adam19 5 місяців тому

    Biggest advantage of FF is vintage glass. Nothing replaces proper mechanical focus. They also look awesome, especially for video, where softer, darker corners get cropped out.
    There is just an infinite array of them (way bigger than E-mount), just buy an adapter for the body and it becomes independent of the camera system.
    It will work just as well on Canon, Leica Nikon, Panasonic, Sigma, Sony.
    Not only that, it will continue to work on Cinema cameras as well, no wonder values seem to be slowly but steadily rising.
    While it works on crop sensors as well, it's just not quite the same. At least Sony has an upgrade path, but the Fuji system is locked in.
    Not sure what's up with all the gripe with the RF mount, I get why people dislike it, but they also fail to point out all the advantages.
    For instance, they have given it a lot of thought to have as many L zooms as possible with optical IS, silent focusing, controlled focus breathing, good parfocal and other types of corrections. Having that tightly working system can be much more useful than having a ton more, but much more limited in that regard.
    And yes, EF lenses shouldn't be overlooked either, when they also work very well.

    • @BrandonSoum
      @BrandonSoum  5 місяців тому

      I've got to shoot with L glass and those really do perform well. I do know my comments with EF mount but it is true that there is a whole catalog of lenses to adapt with EF and perhaps I may adapt some one day thru my Fuji (Likely older).
      I just prefer not adapting for work if possible, since an adapter could be a point of failure in professional work. I'd rather have direct contact.
      Lots of great points to stay on Full-frame. Who's not to say I may need it in the future.. but it will likely be in the family in which I am more dedicated in their lens lineup.
      Thank you for watching, cheers.

    All sensor sizes have pros/cons. It’s a tradeoff between cost vs size | speed | IQ. Company marketing and the influencer economy push towards new(er), fast(er), and “better.” It’s up to the individual to decide what is needed.
    The biggest mistake most buyers make is that what is good for “work” is rarely what is good for leisure. Most working professionals have a different camera and even brand for their personal use vs what they use for work.

    • @BrandonSoum
      @BrandonSoum  5 місяців тому

      Very true! I think many make the mistake of trying to find the “perfect” all in one; Instead, I think many eventually get the “workhorse” and then the leisure for our fun camera- separate from our jobs.

    I really can’t afford a Full frame camera so I just stick to my APSC system camera. Initially I bought the a6500 then the ZVE10 and recently a6700. Nowadays the APSC system lenses are getting smaller and lighter and it’s very convenient to do run and gun video shooting. I usually carry two cameras on me one with ultra wide angle lens and the other with either a prime or zoom lens depending on shooting situation needed. I just hate to carry heavy gears it’s so tiresome. I love all three of these cameras and used them alternately for my everyday photography and videography, is fun and enjoyable! Because it’s compact and lightweight, fits in my everyday carrying bag and goes everywhere with me!

    • @BrandonSoum
      @BrandonSoum  5 місяців тому

      Carrying two at the same time is something I do as well at times; there are situations where I find keeping lenses on one particular body fares better than lens swapping for scenarios where time is key.
      The a6700 I feel like is a great hybrid in the aspc line up.
      Thanks for the comment!

    There are small lenses for full frame as well. I moved from Fuji to Sony and my setup is smaller then before but with much higher IQ, especially high ISO and low light improved a lot. With Fuji XT5 I often had a lot of noise even in relatively low ISO settings and I was quite disappointed with the overall image result compared to XT3 for example. Also all new 1.4 Fuji primes are quite big and I had to add an hand grip to not have finger pain holding the camera after a while.

    • @BrandonSoum
      @BrandonSoum  5 місяців тому

      Sony definitely has an higher IQ, while Fuji does render more so softly. And the ergonomics on the XT line aren't that great, I'd say it's definitely more for the aesthetic and functions it's body offers while shooting. Do you primary shoot photo or video? And which Sony did you move to?

    Best camera for the owner is the one that can help you monetize your work.
    If you are hobbyst then doesn't matter AT ALL what you pick up. Just test every sensor and pick up what you like more.
    If I had unlimited amount of money to the end of my life, I'd never pick up a full-frame sensor.
    But if the point is to monetize the work, full-frame all day.

    The only advantage i see is strictly for photography in less than ideal light situations and cropping which is actually very important to me. When I was making my full frame jump, I was also comparing the A7iv and the R6ii I actually think the R6ii is the technically superior camera, the faster sensor readout gives it a few advantages over the A7iv, but I ended up going with the A7iv for pretty much one reason - native lens selection. So far I have been very impressed with the A7iv, it's a great camera. Fast forward a few months and I'm looking for a secondary camera, something smaller and less expensive to casual carry. The A6700 would have made perfect sense but I ended up going with the Fuji X-S20, it's a great little camera.
