I'm so glad I watched this! I thought I had to take my door off the hinges like with the hinges off all the way. I never knew that little thing would allow you to pull the door up off of it!!!! This was a super easy video. I was getting upset this morning that I wouldn't be able to do it myself... I think I'm gonna buy my own jigsaw bc there's a lot of shelves I want to make for the cats to climb on. Do you have more pet related projects?

Yeah the concept of pulling the door off the hinges like that blew my mind too! I was worried about screwing the hinges all the way off also and my door not being aligned to the frame when screwing back in. Thank goodness.

@Charleston Crafted my door has 2 panels and they start high off the ground. If I put the door, it'll be placed partially in the bottom flat part which is thicker and in the panels which are thinner. I feel like I can't do that??? I could raise the entry up and only do it in the panels but then the bottom of the cat door is like 6 inches or more inches from the bottom. The cats will have to jump each time. What can I do?
@@ariellagrange1779 ours goes through both the hollow and non-hollow parts of the door. The car door with hold it up, there’s no issue

Just curious...why didn't you center the cat door in the middle of the regular door?
Fair question. Answer is that the template has you go from the corner of the door. I think it has to do with the structure of these hollow core doors.

I’m struggling to find a cat flap the right depth of my door depth. 3.5cm. Can you post photos of what the cat flap looks like from both sides of the door?

I am thinking about doing the same thing. After you have installed what are you thoughts no? Also, any concerns with odor escaping? I currently have the litter box in guest closet and looking to move into moving into coat closet in living room but worried about odor

We need to do this and my husband and I are back and forth about putting the cat door on the door itself or on the wall going Into the closet. One of my concerns was that litter would fall into the door since it’s hollow and our cat seems to track her litter a little bit. Have you noticed any litter inside your door?
I haven't, but our cat doesn't track that much. You could definitely fill the hole if you were concerned, using some styrofoam cut to size or some of that spray fill. Or also just let it live in there lol
It was the whole that had me concerned. I have an autistic toddler who would probably enjoy pushing objects in it which is why I asked where the centre piece was.
Can you do this with exterior doors?
They have exterior cat doors that include "weather proof" flaps, so I would go with one of those, but yes, the process is the same.
Why would a kitty want to go into such a small enclosure? Is the litter box in there?
