@@CareerVidz Hello Richard. Why is Q5 = false. The text doesn't say, that Jessica is their only daughter. So one cannot know, whether they have another daughter who is 27 years old.

Thanks for this, really helpful video! F, F, T, F, C. Having looked at the marks I can see that I've got Q 3 and 5 wrong, however: 3- Jessica's first choice is skiing, so surely that validates that she would rather go skiing? 5- The text says that Janet and Steve have 'a' daughter who is 25 years old, but that doesn't rule out another daughter who could be 27 years old? Only if the text said that Janet and Steve had 'one' daughter, then this statement would be false. Let me know thoughts :D
Jeez guys... he himself explained that false means a contradiction to the text. Since "a daughter" does not imply "one daughter", its actually C. the statement that they hav a daughter of 27 y.o. is therefore not false since there might be another one. But we dont know whether there exsits just ONE daughter or more than one daughters. Therefore, cannot say. If it said Jessica is 27 y.o., that would be false (assuming the second daughter is not named Jessica as well, lmao)
Hello there, these numerical & verbal reasoning videos are great. But these one are the simple ones. Is it intentional that there are no examples for the complex ones here for free? The ones that Test Partnership does, for instance. I mean for numerical, we have to analyse graphs and spreadsheets for specific info, on which we can then apply our regular percentages/addition/etc. calculations to get the correct answer from a drop-down list of 10(!!) possible answers. And the answers are close approximate in most cases. We are given 3 such questions to answer in 3 minutes within a graph/spreadsheet context of info. It's absolutely insane. And for verbal reasoning, there is a complex multiple choice answer, not a simple "true", "false" or "cannot say" but "definitely true", "probably true", "insufficient information", "probably false", "definitely false" (5 choices). These can be extremely hard to answer. I get an average 4/12 out of practice tests because of the ambiguity. I just don't get the contextual difference between "probably true" and "probably false", because it is 50-50% in my understanding of contexts. I mean if something is not *definitely* true or false, it can be either, isn't it? I.e. if the text says "somebody died", then "Somebody died" is "definitely true" -- if the text doesn't say anything, then it can be "probably false", "probably true" or just "insufficient information". They make no difference... Great channel btw.
Hi richard, great video with tips. I would like to propose that you make this video with the answers included in the video rather than in the comments as it becomes confusing and hampers the learning experience to wait for the answers. Thank you @CareerVidz for the content, very helpful! I just don't understand why Q5 answer would be C instead of B? Maybe they have another daughter that could be 27? It is not precised in the text that they only have 1 daughter right?
1B, 2 B, 3A, 4B, 5C I note from feedback below that 5 is not C. The passage does not say whether they there is ANOTHER DAUGHTER who could be 27. So I still say 5 is C.
In one way it may not be possible to have a 27 years daughter because they just got married 27 years ago. So, there may not be any boom or something like that they are blessed with one readymade daughter.😀
@@CareerVidz The passage says they have a daughter called Jessica who is 25, how do we know for sure they don't have another daughter who is 27 as per Q5? I don't see where the passage contradicts having an older child, so answered question 5 as cannot say.
@@thebusinessstrategistbw816 With that line of reasoning, you can't assume as well that there is another possible older sister named Jessica because the passage DID NOT EXPLICITLY SAY SO. In the regard, it is safe to assume that the couple only has one child and that is who Q5 is referring to.

Hi Richard, I'm confused as to why Q5 is False rather than Cannot say? The text doesn't explicitly give any information as to whether they do or don't have a 27 year old daughter.
We just answer by looking at the text..and from the text it's clearly said that they have a daughter who is 25 y.o . And from cannot say, i think it prefer to phrase that has a little bit true and false😂 i make it easy, for cannot say , it's for middle Statement (true and false)

Thank you for your answers. These are almost all correct. Q3 is the only incorrect answer. Well done. Please would you subscribe to my channel? I'd appreciate your support. Thanks!
I'm confused as to why the answer for question 5 would be false? In the passage it doesn't say that Janet and Steve only have ONE daughter, they could have Jessica who is 25 but another daughter who is 27. Therefore surely the answer is 'cannot say' because from the information provided we can't determine how many children they have? Would you be able to clarify this
I agree with this, otherwise the passage should say they have 'only one daughter' or something which implies they only have one daughter, so the last answer should be 'cannot say'?
You need to keep in mind, your answers should solely be based on what information is in front of you. You cannot make assumptions such as they may have another daughter. Hope this helps
Read the text and carefully read the 'They have a daughter' part. This clarifies that it is FALSE, since if you read carefully through the words it says A DAUGHTER. Indicating they have ONE daughter only cause of the a determining how many daughters they have.
That may be true but remember you are working with information provided, he did say to not make assumptions! there is not enough evidence and u don't have evidence making it your opinion, hope that makes sense...
@@poggers2251 you cannot infer that they do not have more daughters from that passage. They have a daughter does not mean that they cannot have another daughter even if the text might infer it is is not a fact
How is answer to 4 false..? Isn't it cannot say? The passage doesn't say that she likes/dislikes skiing. It's only her 3rd choice. She might like skiing but like the other two even more.
@@madeleinedeguingand3703 I thought the same. Theres no mention of Jessica being an only child , or this was a reference to Jessica. So there's always a possibility of them having a 27 year old daughter, which means C should be correct.
Q5: you say the answer is FALSE, however going solely by the text, they could have a daughter who is 27? It says they have A daughter, not ONE daughter. Can you please clarify this as I answered cannot say.
Remember, only answer from the text directly. In this example the text only say that "they have a daughter Jessica 25 years old" . Take the text literally. I hope that helps :)
@@marcusshaw2639 it doesn't state that Jessica is their only daughter...? He says answer from information given in the text only.. The answer should therefore be CANNOT SAY
Of course Q5 answer is "Cannot say", you can have a daughter called Jessica but you can also have 1, 2 or 3 more kids. In the text they are speaking about some holidays they want to take with Jessica, but we cannot say they have or they do not have another daughter who is not taking holidays with them because for example she is working and she has no holidays or maybe she has holidays and she is taking it with her friends instead of her family...
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the answer of number 3 is C - cannot say, the passage says, "it is Jessica's second choice", the passage did not mention these words "rather go skiing than go on a sunny holiday".
Thank you so much Richard, for explaining to us the tricks and the rules of answering verbal reasoning questions correctly. I find the video really educating. I'm preparing for PWC Assessment this weekend.
Thank you for your answers. These are all correct. Would you like to subscribe to my channel so you don't miss out on any new content? Your support will be highly appreciated!😊
Thank you Richard for making these. I have a ccat & a personality test to take for a job and ur tutorial helped explain the concepts greatly. I think ima still FAIL but at least ill fail with confidence. LoL
These are all pretty straightforward except that last one where the phrase just literally doesn't indicate her being the one and only daughter. Change the "They have a" for "Their" and it's clear. If we have to play the game, we have to play the game. But can we be reasonably sure that a company isn't going to lean in favour of the "cannot say" in a similar question? I have seen example questions where a direct contradiction or confirmation wasn't available in the text and apparently their answer was "cannot say." Going by the rules laid out here, is their any difference between question 5 and "Janet and Steve have more than one daughter"? Is that also false? Does "fuzzy" language interpretation have any bearing on answers?
I love how he responds to every comment except this one. Like is his affirmation on other comments saying B is the right answer based on his own opinion or is extracted from an actual verbal test (making the answer a fact)? Guess he's just trynna leave us confused so we buy his course lol
Why is the answer to Q5, B, and not C? The text does not mention whether they have a 27-year-old daughter or not. It does not state that Janet and Steve ONLY have one child, it doesn't rule out the possibility that they have 2 or more children so the answer should be C, no? What am I missing?
@@ASDF-nw5zv It says "a daughter" not "one". It is not possible to prove nor disprove the statement using the text hence the answer should be "Cannot say"
Exactly. If it was known that they only had one daughter, I would say the statement is false but the text clearly says "a daughter", not "one" meaning there is nothing proving that the statement is false.
@@ASDF-nw5zv Regarding the emphasis on "a daughter": If the question would have been "one daughter", the answer would be C either way, as there is no way knowing if they have more than one daughter at that age. The text would need to state that she is their only child if answer would become "False". Maybe @CareerVidz would like to comment?
Hi, thank you for submitting your answers, You got 5 out of 5 here, good work! Well done! To not get confused about false or cannot say really depends on the information given. If the information had something like: 'John was with some friends and had three apples. John decides to eat one of them' If the statement was: John had three apples and gave two of them away to his friends. We cannot say if this is true or false as we don't know if he did give them away to his friends. We only know that he eat one of them. If it was something like: 'John was with some friends and had three apples. John decides to give two to his friends and keep one for himself' If the statement was: 'John had three apples and didn't share them with his friends' We know this would be false as the information given states that he gave two of them to his friends. I hope this has explained your question. Be sure to check out other videos on the channel!
Surely the last one is cannot say, as it just says Janet and Steve have a 27 year old daughter, which they could have, the text doesn’t say they ONLY have one daughter! By the rules of reading exactly what is asked in the question and given in the text, then I’d say it is Cannot Say.
@@cd66061 its false not cannot say. The reason is because you only go with the information in the text. Yes, there could be another daughter, it makes no difference unless that daughter is referenced in the text. I get where youre coming from, but jnstead of taking the term 'cannot say' literally, take the text literally instead. Its true you 'cannot say' that they have a 25 year old daughter or not, but by that logic you could say 'cannot say' for her not liking hill climbing because what if shes lying. If you literally only go by the text youll be grand. The text says their daughter is 25, therefore the daughter iz 25, not 27
I see from people below that I have number 5 wrong. I recognise that I often struggle with 'cannot say'. I was interpreting this as cannot confirm whether or not they have any other daughters. Any tips on how I can help myself not over question statements?
One of the tips I generally give out to people for questions like this would be to split up the statement into there own sentences. This way, it makes it a little easier to see all the information possible so, you can determine whether or not it is true false or cannot say. Give this a go with Q5 and let me know how you get on :)

Hi, I was curious about questions that use wording like "some." Most studies say this, and then the question is something along the lines of "some studies say the opposite." I would think it's true but I can't be sure.
Hi, Thank you for your question. I can't be sure myself but, I would say that if the question refers to something along the lines of 'some studies focus more on Maths more than English' and the text passage makes reference to this then your answer would be true.
CareerVidz why is is’t number 3 is (A)true when jessica didn’t compare or provide decision that she would go on skiing than sunny holiday abroad, why shouldn’t the answer would be (C)cannot say?

Excellent!
Thanks for this, really helpful video!
F, F, T, F, C.
Having looked at the marks I can see that I've got Q 3 and 5 wrong, however:
3- Jessica's first choice is skiing, so surely that validates that she would rather go skiing?
5- The text says that Janet and Steve have 'a' daughter who is 25 years old, but that doesn't rule out another daughter who could be 27 years old?
Only if the text said that Janet and Steve had 'one' daughter, then this statement would be false.
Let me know thoughts :D
For Question 5, it did mention have *a* daughter which implies that is one.
For Question 3, it is the right answer which is true (a)
the last answer is false bcz daughter age is mention 25 years old.
@@krupalpatel8092 we can not say he has only one daughter it may be her second daughter age that's why we answer is we can not say
@@amazingtipstricks1467 your "may be" implies that you are making an assumption. It should be based solely on the text, hence 5th Ques is False. '

The text doesn't explicitly give any information as to whether they do or don't have a 27 year old daughter.
let’s not assume that they have another daughter. We shall base only on the text
It states they have a 25Years old daughter so it's false 👐
It says their daughter is 25 years old, not 27.
Remember that it’s only by the text! They CAN have 5 kids but the text doesn’t mention that. Hope this helps😊

@@sridharkannan3090 the passage say she doesn't like hill climbing. read the question carefully :)
Sarah. I agree with you. My comment above is the same thinking as you. Just saw your comment now.
Cannot say

I have seen example questions where a direct contradiction or confirmation wasn't available in the text and apparently their answer was "cannot say."
Going by the rules laid out here, is their any difference between question 5 and "Janet and Steve have more than one daughter"? Is that also false?
Does "fuzzy" language interpretation have any bearing on answers?

Q1: B, False
Q2: B, False
Q3: A, True
Q4: B, False
Q5: B, False

I find it confusing to differntiate between false and cant say, would you explain it for me, please?

Hi, Thank you for your answers, 4 out of 5 here, good work! Take another look at Q5 and see if you can get B as the correct answer.
One of the tips I generally give out to people for questions like this would be to split up the statement into there own sentences. Thanks for this,
I got B, B A, B, B
BUT - i know what you're going to say, the "Janet and Jessica have been married for 27 years" threw me off becuase Steve and Janet have been married for 27 years and the daughter is 25 years old, even if it sounds really stupid, it's still a "CANNOT SAY"
Thanks for your tip, I passed my first 2 stages of being a Firefighter, and I have verbal reasoning test and maths and englisht tests, I have luckily passed these tests before in another fire bridage job I applied for but failed the last interview. So i'll be doing the exact same maths and english tests,
Our verbal reasoning tests are a bit harder though, the articles are a bit longer and MUCH more boring.
I'm so frightened, I will use your advice and even just read the question FIRST before reading the articles, and then look for those 2 keys words and just skim read and find those 2 words and try to be able to answer the question based on that.
it's so stressful, especially with a timer.

"answer based on the passage not on what you know"
Good advise
Hi, thank you for the explanation! very thorough and helped me a lot.
My answer (1-5) : False, False, True (or Cannot Say), False, False
I am still a bit unsure about No.3, I saw the correct answer is True but why can't we answer it Cannot Say? Is it because Jessica's first vs second choice? Thanks!

My answers are: B, B, A, B, C.
I wanted to subscribe to your channel however I do not fully understand that you were not willing to explain the reasons for the last one being B (false) when me and many other test-takers proved a good point about Janet and Steve having another daughter.
I hope you understand my good intentions.
