when I do the " update-initramfs -u " it comes back with "couldn't find efi system partition. It is recommended to mount it to /boot or /efi. Any help or direction on this? I have done this twice to the T and cant seem to figure out why it says that
I'd love to use Proxmox as a subsystem for my personal workstation computer, that way I could install Windows & Linux as VMs in Proxmox then select them and use that VM. Would enable things like running Windows software on Linux and vice versa, sandboxing sketchy Windows applications and so on. I think the biggest limitation right now is that consumer GPUs don't have GPU sharing to VMs
i run something similar to this idea for my oeoxmox server running my windows vm i use when i’m remote, a linux box a kali box when needed and whatever other test machines i need. it’s not my daily driver to run these vms and i don’t pass through a gpu but it’s convenient when im not home and need a workstation to work on
Short question: When you do a gpu passthrough, does the proxmox host still give video output when a tft monitor is attached to it? Like when you need to troubleshoot something on the physical proxmox host.
nope, since you backlist the drivers it makes it that the proxmox host can’t get drivers to work with it. the only issue you may have it with the iommu interruption being set if you try to rescue boot a iso or something similar it most likely won’t be able ti use it unless you change back the iommu configs
How to do GPU pass-through in 2024, using a guide that's from 2018? There are more up to date guides, and Proxmox has changed a lot since six years ago.
@@GellértJuhász Shouldn't that method be demonstrated for 2024, and doesn't that require some additional configuration via a command line interface (which should also be demonstrated)?
Proxmox, does not boot when inserting a new GPU for me, hard to follow the steps if i can't boot into proxmox. (Proxmox works for me if i remove the GPU though)
First of all, thank you very much for the well-explained tutorial. Secondly, I am trying to pass through an Intel Arc A380 to a Windows Server VM. The passthrough itself worked, without the large setup, however it doesn't seem to properly load the drivers. I get the warning symbol in device manager. Also, if I set gpu to none, VNC stops working completely. Any idea where to search for the cause? I should clarify: VNC stops working, but RDP still works after the VM has finished booting.
@@ellisjm69 update from my end: the RDP is obvious, but nonetheless meaningless. In the end I bought a cheap NVIDIA card and it worked 1st try, no issues
Great tutorial for a "50-50" chance!
Thanks
of course, thank you!
Great video, thanks for the clarity. Easy to follow.

hyper-v could probably work for you
does external monitor or dummy hdmi plug needed for passthrough
Can you do a video on Ubuntu gpu passthrough? I can not get it to work for me
can you upload video for linux also GPU pass through?

Worked for me for a day. On the second day, just black screens. Working on second attempt, then gotta get the keyboard and mouse to connect...
lspci -k | grep -E "vfio-pci | NVIDIA" (last step to see if its working) update-pciids (to update pci id's if its not showing the GPU info correctly)

I think there's a built-in mechanism already via the GUI.

Brother can u make a tutorial on GPU passthrough for frigate NVR using promox
i will look into this

you need to black list the drivers

you need rdp to the actual vm itself, because if u have the gpu set to anything except none then it will not work

Will I need 2 gpu’s for this work or will it work with one?
one will work
Followed it... upon first reboot the great error "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
For reference, that Reddit guide is 6 years old.
yes and it is still the go to guide everyone uses
