I grew up surfing 56 st in the 70s (damn I'm old). We would go watch the wedge sometimes when it was going off and there were never near this many people out and MAYBE a couple on boards. I know I am out of date with board tech but these guys are still crazy. I am sure those who have seen it live will appreciate that footage does not do justice to how gnarly and how shallow this is all happening in.

It’s a short ride but the drop in and the sections are gnarly! Nice barrels if You’er in the right place at the right time. It takes every skill in the book out there. Swimming, paddling through powerful sets in shallow water. Taking off at the last second, riding barrels , punching through the back, kicking out, body surfing to retrieve your board, getting slammed and held down, dodging other surfers . Hitting massive back wash. Ya the Wedge has it all!

It’s crazy how big it is yet when the camera pans out it’s like glass! I don’t know if I’d be more worried about taking a wave on the head or another surfer/skimmer! It’s a damn free-4-all! Even the guys with cameras ain’t safe!

The dude on the yellow top orange bottom board (Mach 7.7 throwback?) is good. I liked the little air reverse he did at the end. Beyond him and a few others, it seems like a lot of beginners. Didn't see a single ARS. Is it hard to get good SoCal? Not enough swells and breaks?

We just got 25 foot waves at the wedge only a couple days ago, the surf was so big part of newport got flooded.

Not really. It’s always been known for just being huge waves that the unordinary surfers take on. Bodyboarding came after.
