It is absolutely hysterical that these guys know they are going to be pummeled for a 5 second ride, but think it is the best trade-off in the world. Keep it up surfer dudes, and great video. I applaud you with 3 hands for not ruining it with a crappy soundtrack.
Wow, big day at the Wedge. Some of those waves were really massive. When I was a teen, living in Las Vegas in the late '60s, early '70s, my family used to vacation in Laguna Beach every summer, and a few times, I was lucky enough to be there when a big south swell was running. I'd beg and plead with my dad to drive up to Newport Beach to watch the action at The Wedge, where I foolishly tried to belly board. Even on a 4-6 foot day, the wipeouts were so brutal, because the waves break in such shallow water. I can easily see how folks some surfers were killed or paralyzed. But when The Wedge was really big, 10-15 foot and up, which I was lucky enough to see just a few times, you couldn't have paid me to go into the water. It looked like suicide. You'd see guys *standing* in waist or shoulder deep water looking up into green mountains. Crazy! But some of my best memories about my teen years. So, I love to see these Wedge videos, and remember, and watch in awe at the power of nature. Thanks!
Same story. My uncle and dad would brag about body surfing Wedge in the 60's. I Always had my ear open to their stories. About 14 i started going often to try it for myself. Never caught it huge to a Hurricane swell around 92. Blew my mind. You could drive a bus through the barrels. Was blown away. Could not believe the size power and the beating you would take. I loved it. 50 now and still get out there to body womp wedge on occasion. Not so much on Red Flag days though. 🤙🤙
+Grey Matters always good to see people getting on....but first person on the wave should have the wave....lot of dropping in going on and that's just dangerous....should be wave etiquette...surfers and body boarders alike. just my opinion....God I love a shore dump....great fun....cool vid...thanks :o)
i totally agree. rules are rules man, and etiquette is etiquette. is it the first one to drop that has the right of way, or does it have something to do with position? i skated and it was usually decided by a nod or like a pull back from the lesser of the two (that's where it got shifty). you just can't share a rail or a ledge y'know? you take turns. i just can't stand the idea of those north shore bros like "locals only brah." if i saw that here i don't know how it'd go.
+Grey Matters generally it's who is on wave first but also who is nearest the soup....but that gets people snaking which is not etiquette. possessive local surfing is an ugly thing too. the surf is a place to chill....not fight
2:21 Dang! Probably one of the longest Wedge surfing rides I've seen out of all these videos. These are some massive waves, though! This is so much fun!
When the wedge goes off, it's a giant shore break that closes out and pounds you. Basically a scaled up version of how it is pretty much all the time for body boarders. Fun to watch, though. Thanks for the vid.
It's like nothing else, that i have ever seen before. And i do enjoy watching waves and barrels break. Great video, thanks for sharing. It looks more thrilling for everybody (in and out of water) than the amusement park.
The wave starting @ 2:20 is well-ridden, and gets the distance record for the day, but the shorebreak STILL wins. Great vid, Mike! Some excellent footage. Do you have enough for a movie?
thanks man, i have enough footage for 20 movies haha, creating a story with interviews and all that good stuff sounds exhausting lol, maybe when i can be a full time creator id be able to organize interviews and create a solid documentary style film
That place is mad. You go left and then get eaten 5 seconds later by the wave cutting in and going right. Much respect to those who surf it, especially when it's big.
i can watch the wedge for hours on big days. so fun to watch man of water if your ever in san diego check out marine street would love to see some video of there on big days its fun shore break kinda our version of the wedge if you see taco bell you are in the right place
I agree, that swell is all over the place! I guess that's why there are body boarders? not ripppin on body boarders. just float better less chance of a head crack?
What is the best month to visit? I'm planning a trip for next year and live on the east coast so I would like to take full advantage of your larger waves out west
yeah weather is always best in July and August, swell wise its a little slow in summer but would be good to learn with decent waves just not much overhead surf
are there any videos of woman riding the wedge? i would be terrified because today i went to the beach and the waves where like a third as big as "the wedge" and i was on my boogie board in the wave break and i was paddling back then i look over my shoulder and a huge wave knocks me over. i remember being pushed around and doing a backflip before being pulled out of the water by my dad.
You know when your facing the shore and you're unaware of a wave coming towards you and it smacks you on the back of your head. you really feel the smack and i really wonder what it feels when a wave the size of 15 feet crushes your body. it must be soooo painful!
Calm down big dog. A kook is someone who endangers someone else's life and doesn't care about the other people out in the lineup, when you drop in on someone you are doing exactly that. It show zero respect and the people that do that are just a hazards to everyone els.
+atmosphere Adr yeah so much water moving around when the south swells roll through its definitely an unpredictable wave which is part of the challenge
+atmosphere Adr its the wedge dude mainly for boogie boarders but surfers who've been kicked off of every other break around wind up here too as you can clearly see one of them shove a boogie boarder. ive surfed for 30 years and ever since the boogie board become popular, most surfers have problems w guys who ride them!!
8:18 that guy blew a chance at a really nice barrel, he should have never dropped in once he made it to the wedge from the side wave! He should have stayed up high and tight and on line, but he dropped in and got stuck behind the barrel.
Was this footage shot before 10am, or perhaps the blackball times changed? Best regards to riders of all shapes and sizes, but not sure what is more extreme: face first to a surfboard 'tip' travelling 60 mph or bein worked by 1000 lbs of water ;)
+DrumSolVanIsle yes sir, i almost always film between 8am- 10am and sometimes keep filming into black ball, on bigger days it usually takes boarders an extra 30 mins to completely exit the water after blackball is up
It is absolutely hysterical that these guys know they are going to be pummeled for a 5 second ride, but think it is the best trade-off in the world. Keep it up surfer dudes, and great video. I applaud you with 3 hands for not ruining it with a crappy soundtrack.
+Boxhawk "crappy" or not , I agree with you that there is no better soundtrack than the roar of the ocean...
+Breno Nunes oh yeeeaaaah duuuude you are such a pooeeeeett 😍 there is nothing better than the roar of the ocean oohhh yeeeaaaah duuuude 😊
+/ récif / that sounded like a sarcastic ass comment.
+Boxhawk wedge is a shore break too, on the other side of the jetty is Big Corona and that's a good day of surfing if its ever big

Crazy wave! Thanks for leaving it RAW and not adding music! Really get a chance to appreciate it better!
+OmegaPirate thank you and no prob!
The wedge is the most unique wave I've ever seen. I wanna ride it
That’s what she said😂🤣 and what you tryna ride huh 😅😳😳
@@yungdee2153 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
0:58 interesting combination of water.
4:16 Quad Copter
5:26 took some good timing by the surfer
7:23 Vertical Wave
it's cool to see you surfers and boarders sharing waves without fighting
+Grey Matters yes! hopefully one day the snobs can learn from how much more fun it is when you aint focused on the negative
+Grey Matters always good to see people getting on....but first person on the wave should have the wave....lot of dropping in going on and that's just dangerous....should be wave etiquette...surfers and body boarders alike. just my opinion....God I love a shore dump....great fun....cool vid...thanks :o)

FREE PIZZA. IT'S LEGIT:
pizzahut-coupons.com/?ref=823612
6:43 the guy duckdiving has his board snapped. The lip lands right on him
Oh yeah I saw the nose flying off!
Peter Crosser they are about 12 foot that day and very powerful
5:55 to 6:07.. Amazing control of that board sir.
2:21 Dang! Probably one of the longest Wedge surfing rides I've seen out of all these videos. These are some massive waves, though! This is so much fun!
Great stuff love hearing all the people on the beach, next best thing to being there!

THANK YOU for the raw footage. This is the best kind of video.
it's even crazier when you realise how close those waves are to the shore.
When the wedge goes off, it's a giant shore break that closes out and pounds you. Basically a scaled up version of how it is pretty much all the time for body boarders. Fun to watch, though. Thanks for the vid.
This has to be the best body boarding and raw surfing footage ever
It's like nothing else, that i have ever seen before. And i do enjoy watching waves and barrels break. Great video, thanks for sharing. It looks more thrilling for everybody (in and out of water) than the amusement park.
+Vesa Leinonen straight up, and thank you for watching !
Congrats on 5K Subs Man! Your videos are always fun to watch. Keep up the good work.
+Nathan Pascarelli thank you ! yeah passed few months my subs have really picked up I'm stoked !
Amazing the skill level of pretty much every rider out there!
Sponge riding takes almost no skill
except at a place like that
+SPUDS CARY That's complete bull.
Bro-brah has so much control onboard from 5:54-6:07
small wave but good steez…must be a skater !
I've been here in my dreams many times, time to go live it!
love coming back to this vid to get hyped
Same!
The wave starting @ 2:20 is well-ridden, and gets the distance record for the day, but the shorebreak STILL wins.
Great vid, Mike! Some excellent footage. Do you have enough for a movie?
thanks man, i have enough footage for 20 movies haha, creating a story with interviews and all that good stuff sounds exhausting lol, maybe when i can be a full time creator id be able to organize interviews and create a solid documentary style film
one of our favorites. An old-but-a-goodie.
This is amazing footy... Absolutely breathtaking....
it's such an epic break!!!
The wedge breaks and Mike is there, good work mate.
+Jymmy Jams yeah bud !
2:45 two men enter, one man leaves.
The one that left never really entered
2:22 perfect!!!
Possibly my fav video on youtube
So rad and epic Mike keep filming more videos of the wedge. Makes me want to go out and shred 👍👌
+jesus rodriguez for sure !
Yea kudos for not adding surf music! Love that raw power of the ocean sound ! Good stuff!!!
this place is amazing, I've never surfed proper before but would love to try somewhere like this
Great footage! Those guys have guts! I used to live a few blocks from the Wedge.
thanks Danny !
That looks like such a fun day, adrenaline rushing for sure
That place is mad. You go left and then get eaten 5 seconds later by the wave cutting in and going right. Much respect to those who surf it, especially when it's big.
makes me want to surf :) love the raw vids:) thanks mate
+Gaming Mix thank you !
I surged the Wedge that day with you guys. Was real...... rad
Great video, i started surfing this year :D
Thank you Mike and Lucas
Could someone please share the drone footage you see zip by around 4:15 onwards.... ;-)
thanks mike, great footage !....
Amazing spot...
I need to get down there to see this in person someday. Good vid man
i can watch the wedge for hours on big days. so fun to watch man of water if your ever in san diego check out marine street would love to see some video of there on big days its fun shore break kinda our version of the wedge if you see taco bell you are in the right place
Damn those are some sick looking waves
What is considered a big day at the wedge? I'm only about an hour away and would love to go on a big day.
+Agypagy 8ft+
I agree, that swell is all over the place! I guess that's why there are body boarders? not ripppin on body boarders. just float better less chance of a head crack?
Muito massa! Não me canso de ver a parte 0:09 quando o bodyboarder dropa uma onda animal!
the wedge is my past time use to go there everyday after school
dillon sanford lucky!!!!!
dillon sanford Where are you from?
Great footage dude! Had fun watching!!
Mike, thanks for the videos. this day was crazy, do you have a day that stands out, as the biggest/best?
NOBODY FLAGS THIS VIDEO, I OWN THIS!!!!
Serious question.
Is dropping in considered kind of okay at the wedge?
exelente video.Muy entretenido.Lo mejor de todo es que no tiene musica. Gracias!
go home ocean, you're drunk
What is the best month to visit? I'm planning a trip for next year and live on the east coast so I would like to take full advantage of your larger waves out west
July or August
yeah weather is always best in July and August, swell wise its a little slow in summer but would be good to learn with decent waves just not much overhead surf
Looks like a super nice day!
are there any videos of woman riding the wedge? i would be terrified because today i went to the beach and the waves where like a third as big as "the wedge" and i was on my boogie board in the wave break and i was paddling back then i look over my shoulder and a huge wave knocks me over. i remember being pushed around and doing a backflip before being pulled out of the water by my dad.
I love this sport.
where is it? I often see this in many video and now I realized that I was wondering where this place - who can say where it is?
Newport Beach
Back in the early 80's, Oceanside jetty near the harbor used to wedge but not as dangerous as Newport.
+Rudy Martinez crazy, never woulda thought
This is amazing
The Wedge, uma das ondas mais pesadas q há! Ideal p bodysurfing e bodyboard, mas agora p o surf tb!
You know when your facing the shore and you're unaware of a wave coming towards you and it smacks you on the back of your head. you really feel the smack and i really wonder what it feels when a wave the size of 15 feet crushes your body. it must be soooo painful!
Awesome footage!
This is some great footage!!!
+4G93T thank you sir
I guess you could almost call the Wedge a shore breaker co's its breaking in almost no water at all - whoa, that's gotta hurt!!!!
Love your videos you made me start bodyboarding
So many kooks dropping in on people.. But there is a lot of good footage, nice video :D
I've never surfed there but I really feel like the laws of surfing don't apply to the wedge haha
Calm down big dog. A kook is someone who endangers someone else's life and doesn't care about the other people out in the lineup, when you drop in on someone you are doing exactly that. It show zero respect and the people that do that are just a hazards to everyone els.
***** calm down man. And actually when the Wedge is going off people will fly there they do not really know each other.
+Evan Robel Ennh wrong. It's mostly socal locals. The tourists usually just watch.
The Glyphon Cause pro surfers like JOB are from socal?
Such a gnarly wave... and hella crowed too
shorebreak like this means no sand left tomorrow, right? footage & sound are tasty - surprising, when camera pans right
Its just so messy and raw. Wiping out is just part of the game, it seems.
Does the wedge ever break more off shore or that's it??
Is the objective of this wave just to stay on as long as you can before you get crushed?
more the drop kkk
from where did you enter in the water ? Near the rocks or far away from the rocks ?
+Bricks Bracks you walk out from the sand, you don't really have to paddle it only breaks about 30 yds out too right onshore
How are there15 year old kids surfing waves that big without falling off and drowning wtf
+Mj Dus beast mutants
It's not about age, it's about practice and pushing themselves to learn how to ride those waves.
+Mj Dus beast why hate
Im 15 and I can do that, catching these waves is literally the best feeling in the world
+Mj Dus beast the kid at 0:20 is actually 13. His name is Sage Burke.
Perhaps back in the day I'd give this a go, but with two daughters in college I can't afford to end up in traction. ;)
@0:34 mad frontside boardslide/lipslide...
that guys a skater for sure 💯🤙
Great footage.
very nice footage
GREAT FOOTAGE!!!!!
great footage!! thanks for posting :)
Great place...not as good as Hawaii, but still..The waves are picking up this year....ed
Great images keep it up
8:50 did that board break? looks like the worst possible direction it could have fallen
+Mr. Aek i don't remember seeing any broken boards this morning but was mainly watching the wedge peek
8:18 that guy blew a chance at a really nice barrel, he should have never dropped in once he made it to the wedge from the side wave! He should have stayed up high and tight and on line, but he dropped in and got stuck behind the barrel.
I'd set up a stitches clinic on shore. I'm sure those dudes are getting shredded.
somebody please tell me, what time of the day do you think this is? like 9 in the morning?
yah I generally film between 8am-10am
Mike what beach is this looks amazing! :)
Beverley Roberts the wedge, Newport Beach California but that size isn't typical
u nailed it Mike
That's just insane! so sick
lucky!!
ooh man i wanna surf this soo bad, i love your vids, keep it up cheers
+Fraser Tompkin thanks dude
Mike Lucas Media no worries
Was this footage shot before 10am, or perhaps the blackball times changed? Best regards to riders of all shapes and sizes, but not sure what is more extreme: face first to a surfboard 'tip' travelling 60 mph or bein worked by 1000 lbs of water ;)

Thanks for reply. Perhaps your camera will catch a 'Newport Councillor' swimming out to apprehend - those who don't get out on time.
GREAT VIDEO!
+Jarrod Derr thank you Jarrod !
So much like the wedge at Newy !!
people who surf the wedge when its more than over head are fucking legends, paddling out would be so heavy on the big days
i need to go there someday... I NEED TO GO
bodyboarders rule the wedge
That ride at 5:54 was insane!
0:35 was that intentional? wave grind??
Ike if you think the wedge is the most entertaining wave to watch.
thats crazy, you should be out there
