    For a moment I thought you were reading my resume - "a bit outdated and not so sexy" but then you said my XLRs werent in the way. Sounds like a great alternative and I LOVE the stereo FX return.

    Those analogue cab sims always sound much better coming out of a big, loud PA system. At least that's what I find with my Quilter Superblock amps. For studio use it's definitely better to send the DI out through an IR instead.

    It checks all the boxes for me. (Except maybe for size.) But I already have a Simplifier and am happy with it. I don't think I'd choose this over the Simplifier if I didn't already have the Simplifier, but I think it would be the only other option in consideration for analog amp & cab sim with DI, headphone out, and effects loop.

    it's doesn't have to sound exactly like the given amps, is the zero latency and low power consumption there.
    i keep investing in analog solid state, and it keeps getting better.
    DSM Humbolt, Tech 21, Hughes & Kettner, and Quilter ... it's just a more sensible working solution.

    Quilter made me sleepy! 🥱 Will rewatch. After surgery last Friday. Still recovering! Can lift a guitar for 2 weeks! 😢. Really interested in the stuff. Breaking Pre amps from Power amps, and mix and matching!

    Looks brilliant at £300.
    Di box. Headphones. Sub in.
    Because it's analogue it will hold it's value and be relevant as it's own sound when the latest digital stuff is in the bin. Will always be very useful device.
    I've got the "latest" digital stuff from 10 yrs ago it was the bollocks now just old digital stuff. 👍😎🤘😃

    Great video man. Very informative. Just wanted to ask you a question since mentioned that u gigged this pedal. Aside from the stereo XLR outputs, what do u use for a monitor? I mean the DSM SIMPLIFIER X has a 1/4 " out where u can go to a cab without using the cab simulation. When u r going straight to FOH, are monitors not really necessary? Thanks for your answer.

    Thanks very much for your great unbiased review. I primarily gig with a Tech 21 Blonde and various pedals before the T21 basically as a DI 'Twin'. I recently bought a Quilter Phantom Block for back up and found it very good as long as you don't have the gain up. The Quilter is just OK with pedals IMO, my test is a Fulltone Full Drive 2 which sounds grainy with the Quilter but not with the Tech 21 Blonde. Quilter definately have their 'sound' AND the Limiter is very useful. I may consider buying the Quilter as it fits the bill for use in my genre of jazz/soul/blues in a small club/theatre gig setting.

    Fine sir, you have given this unit an exceedingly thorough and fair shake, given us ample (very telling) sound samples and lots of honest thoughts on it. Your channel stands out of the crowd (as always). Back to topic: The market is now rich in choices (thank you, kind market!). Ease of use, also in a digital modeler? Now also available: See something simple like an ACSI1 (with the newer firmware), a Two Notes Opus (gets way too little love!), or even the stellar Katana Go plugged into a tuner pedal (so you don‘t have to dangle it from you geetar with a dinky little cable). Any of these will get you miles farther than the Quilt, and also with ease, no (or very little) „option paralysis“ and great responsiveness (low latency). That said, I like this blue box for quick-and-dirty. If I hadn‘t yet bought all of the above (and more, like the Ampero II Stage), and if I were kinda starting out, the Quilter would be quite attractive, especially because of its effects loop (stereo, plus switchable to mono - amazing!) and no-nonsense approach. I am now going to watch this video to the end - not as a potential buyer of the Quilter, but because I enjoy your honest reviews that truly give prospective buyers the orientation they need (i.e., that which a „review“ is supposed to do, but nowadays rarely does). P.S. I love how you work hard to ferret out and praise ALL of the unit‘s virtues, despite also finding its faults. Quilter can be very content with the this review, even if it doesn‘t just lavish praise on the unit.

      @@scottbecker3485 Could you run it through a DI into a PA and get some good sounds out of it? I’m thinking about it for a low cost solution for the occasional times I play electric guitar in church. I normally play acoustic.

    • @scottbecker3485
      @scottbecker3485 Місяць тому +1

      @@im58woody Yes and no. Yes to running into into a PA for electric (sounds quite good enough to my ears, when run into my EV Everse 8), but perhaps no to using it with acoustic guitar, as well. Somebody wrote that the jack is somehow not wired in such a way that it would work with piezo pickups as commonly used with acoustic guitars. I‘ll be testing that out next, though (as soon as my twin toddlers permit). That all said, the Boss Katana Go (if you can find one) might be a better option for mainly acoustic, since it offers all kinds of EQ pedals not available on the Micro Mustang +. The MM+ does, however, have a button on the side for stepping through EQ variations. Have yet to test that on electric. Back to acoustic: If a recall correctly, somebody else wrote you can use some kind of adapter plug/cable to make the MM+ usable with acoustic. We shall see…

    • @im58woody
      @im58woody Місяць тому +1

      @@scottbecker3485 Thanks for the quick response 👍 I was thinking about plugging the MM into my NUX Acoustic Stageman DI box and then running my guitar cable into it and just bypassing the acoustic preamp when using the MM for electric guitar. Then when I play acoustic bypass the MM if that’s doable. I probably wouldn’t play both guitars at one service simply because it’s a pain to switch between them. So I would just leave the MM out of the equation when playing acoustic.

    Man, this reminds me of the interblock 45. I could not get a great drive tone from that direct. I like the DSM or even my sansamp direct compared to the direct tones from quilter. The amped stuff through cab though? Amazeballs. I like quilter a lot.

      Don't think I would miss the power amp since my SBUK has been my main amp (direct no cab) for a few years now. Now we finally get foot switches...great BUT no foot switch for amp selection. Would rather have that than limiter & reverb switches. Oh well.

    So with the sound of the unit being - at least - questionable (to a degree that you suggest also buying a separate IR loader), the 2 XLR outs being what every mid-tier multi fx has anyway (or that could be done by adding a stereo DI box to one of the cheaper ones) I don't see any situation where I would chose this one over e.g. a NUX MG30 (which btw also has only a latency of around 2ms)
