Nice USNA hat! My mid graduated this year. I have many of the same boards… equipe, comp, Malibu, Superlight, etc. so much fun.

Very cool. Yes, mine just commissioned this year as well. You have a superb collection. How long have you been sailing? I’m still new, only about 3 years now. Absolutely love the old longboards. Go NAVY !

About the same. 5 years or so. Just having fun! Lakes about to freeze in Colorado so season is almost over.

@@bikeroadrider Wow ! I wish I could windsurf (or even snowski) in Colorado. It's a beautiful place but too expensive for me to travel. I have been through one time in my life, I toured the Air Force Academy. Colorado is a beautiful state. You are blessed. One thing we have going for us in North Carolina is our rivers never freeze. It gets cold, but usually only for about a month out of the year. Then, it's back to wetsuit windsurfing.... and the summers are amazing.

Looking good! That should be just about enough wind to pull up the centerboard and get into the footstraps. Pulling up the centerboard will help reduce drag a lot too. Just get that mast track all the way back and give it a go. I'd start with the footstraps adjusted forward and tuned to the right size so its a bit easier to get in. Then move them back once you want more speed. I see you've experienced a pretty good centerboard hydrofoil there, impressive recovery from that! Love the XR, such a light fast board.

Thanks, Chris. I did sail a couple of miles on the initial downwind trek with the centerboard up, but the mast track was not all the way back. It felt good but lots of work left to do... I need to work on my balance with so much weight on the rear. Once I was heading upwind and still as you see in the video, I had kicked it back down about halfway...
(UPDATE) I was finally able to rail some a few weeks ago on this board. It was a low-wind day, but I used a 10.5 meter Sailworks Retro, my largest sail. Amazing sensation to rail more than a few seconds at a time. I think I'm realizing my smaller One Design actually rails easier, due to its narrow boardwidth (63cm vs the 66 of the Equipe II). Also explains why my old Competition, which is 70 cm in width will likely never rail at all. Believe me, I've tried. Complete with catapult. (UPDATE: I surprised myself the other day and railed my Bic Bamba in marginal winds with my 7.8 sail... I suppose I'm progressing.... yet it may be awhile before I can command the rail as you do !)

It cuts so well through water. Looks like more fun than skimming right above it, as I do with my freerace boards (wouldn’t like to do this on a water state like yours…). However, why aren’t you using your harness properly? Most of the time you’re sailing without or without any tension on the harness line. Looks like incredibly tiring for the arms!

It's the distortion on the GoPro lensing. When I'm hooked in, the harness is tight.... believe me ! Although, I do tend to surf out of the harness alot especially when going downwind, just because I'm still a fair newbie and it helps with my balance. (Also, I've realized sailing over the past year that there is alot of centerboard foiling going on in this video...I should have retracted it on most of these runs, would have reduced drag...but I was going upwind most of the day and at the time, thought I needed it) Thanks for tuning in !

Was very new to the sport. This was my first high-wind day when I was still learning speed. I'm still not in the straps, but I'm getting much closer now.

@@remigijusjozenas398What board are you using? I have heard the newer gear is easier to learn on, I’ve been using bits and pieces of older gear due to cost. Yet, these old raceboards are still a thrill to ride…

@@remigijusjozenas398 Indeed, a beautiful place to sail. I'll bet it's amazing, and the Mistral Maui is a great board. Are there others sailing the classic longboards in your area? Not many remain in my area. You should share some of your videos!
