    For future reference don’t let the paint dry before pulling off the tape cuz the edges will stick to it. Remove the tape when the paint is still virtually wet so it helps helps keep the edges sharp. I believe this is a general rule for any application🤟🏽

      So you saw that. I had one or two spots peel. Thanks for the advice.

    I saw another video years ago where a guy was turning his normal motorcycle tires into whitewalls and he also used vinyl paint. However, he sprayed something on the tires before the vinyl paint so they wouldn't yellow or brown over time. I'm looking for that video because I can't remember what that first product was. He did recommend sanding the tires because there is a substance on them from the factory that helps keep them from getting stuck in the tire mold. That substance will cause browning and yellowing of whatever you use on the tire to make it a whitewall.

      I have found that regular spray paint will brown but vinyl keeps its color. It must be less absorbent or perhaps because it just goes on thicker.

      I'm guessing the Plasti Dip acts as a sealer and blocks the chemicals that come out of the tire. That kills two birds with one stone. That and good prep work.

    I have made custom whitewalls as well using the Avon Cobras as the base. I ground off the texture and then used Mr Whitewalls paint. Lasted a season and I had to refresh. 3rd season in, the tyres were re-painted twice and now I'm giving up as they go creamy-brown very quickly. No cracking or anything like that - credit to MrW.. but that's about it. I got a video on my channel if you fancy a look.

      +Maraggie I've found that leaving them out in the hot sun for a season will bleach out the creamy brown color .... but that is Oklahoma or Texas sun. Not sure where you live.

      Did not sand the lettering but I did clip off all the rubber splines that stuck out. Its still holding up well.

    I'm trying this today I actually used some sems vinyl paint to paint white walls black on a old beater car I had never peeled or flaked off. And I've tried everything on my bike so I'm gonna try this . I use sems vinyl paint on a lot of different applications the paint holds up well hopefully on my tires.

    bro, its a lovely bike , why dont you make it like the bobber style... it would be awesome...

  •  3 роки тому

    hello .. I am a strict followers who live in turkey. your projects are great.. I congratulate your team. I have an amateur bobber project. I tried various methods of applying white stripe on the sidewalls. but I could not get a long-term performance. There are alternatives in my research such as asphalt line paint, leather seat paint and plastic bottom. I do not want to experience situations such as deformation and separation of paint from the surface after application. For this reason, I would like your advice on the right paint material and the correct application method. Has it deformed over time? Has the paint peeled off? Can you suggest me?

    • @MaxAC
      @MaxAC  3 роки тому +1

      It never did deform on me nor did it peel. I did develop a few minor cracks but you could only see them up close.

    Finally found a place to get the paint in Canada. My new question, did you sand the tires too or just oven cleaner and a ton of elbow grease?

    • @MaxAC
      @MaxAC  5 років тому +1

      just cleaner but to do it again i would sand off the letters and numbers

      @@adamleroux9509 Honestly it comes down to the prep work. The right side of the front tire stayed the nicest looking because of the angle of accessibility during the cleaning and prep work.

    Btw how many coats u did of white vinyl spray?
    and how is it holding now...mind sharing a recent picture?

    • @MaxAC
      @MaxAC  9 років тому +1

      I applied 3 coats. The front tire is holding up great. The rear however was weather cracked so the paint is cracking as well but has not flaked at all and still looks good unless you are right up on it. I'm positive with a nice smooth side wall the vinyl would hold up great.

      Unfortunately I sold the bike about a year ago. The vinyl was still in place until then. The new owner put new tires on it about 6 months ago.
