Hi Dave. thanks for the video. I just wanted to ask if it does not have the cap and rain has been coming in, does it ruin inside parts of house? thanks.
Well for the past 20+ years there was not cap, so i assume it did get rain inside. But no, we didn't have an issue with parts of the house getting wet. We mainly installed the cap to keep the birds from nesting in there.
Their correct no lies about it. Most responsible customers that need work done on their roofs will pay to have said work done before they risk their necks. As for a business that installs or performs any kind of work on a roof might not tell you, the one story buildings are priced lower than two stories because of the height and the level of difficulty that might come with it.
Thats not a chimney cap all that is is a spark arrestor. A chimney cap covers the whole top side of the chimney. If a chimney is only getting a screw on spark arrestor onto a terria cotta chimney the concrete crown will eventually fail. I always make a cap that covers the whole thing and will last longer than the home owner and myself.
@joserivera199520 a cover that covers the whole house is what a company does when they fumigate a dwelling to kill off pests and insects. I specialize in light gauge agricultural sheet metal and some heavier gauges for certain commercial customers. My specialty is chimney caps and spark arrestors, but thats my way of being modest. I can make just about anything that a customer might want or need. All I need is to understand his or hers project or design is. Afterwards I draw up plans and if its what he or she is wanting I completely blow their minds by doing exactly what I say I can do and even going a step further by adding my own tweeks to the final design. In short im a sheetmetal God. As I should be after almost 30 years experience.
Bull. You don't need to watch this video unless you want to keep buying new caps. During the course of a year or maybe 2 it will blow off. Useless. Read the instructions that come with the cap and it will tell you this much, as if you need to be told to tighten 4 screws. Useless
Video was super helpful I did everything you did. Thanks man.
Aren’t the holes in the mesh large enough for mice to enter? They can slip into 1/4” cracks.

Great Job, thank you!!!!
Hopefully the caps are stainless Steel or copper!
Great video, I subscribe and thank you.
Thank you so much!
My chimney measures 9x18 do you recommend going bigger or smaller for the cap?
Great video. Why is it so expensive to pay someone to install a chimney cap? Seems very easy?
the expensive part is getting someone to climb up to the top of the chimney.
It’s a business. I think they do charge a “premium” because they know most homeowners don’t want to go up on the roof.

P.S. its not difficult at all if you can reach the top of your chimney you can save yourself some cash.
Is expensive because you need to be certified to work on high altitudes and have a medical secure that cover dangerous work
I would think that screen on that cap would clog with creosote relatively quickly. How often does it need cleaning?
I haven't cleaned it in 2 years. Went up on the roof a few months ago and it looks the same as when it was installed.
It depends on how often its used im sure. Im in Tampa Florida (where chimneys are mostly decorative) so the screen down here can last several years 😆
My cap blew off in the high winds. I have to put it back.im not looking forward to it. 🤔
What did u use to seal the chimney cap?
Here's Part 3: ua-cam.com/video/f1anUL_SwGk/v-deo.html
What i used: Masonry Chimney Water Repellent ....... amzn.to/2ptPBmZ
why can't I find a cap that fits my chimney....13.5" x14"??????
Those types here and at HD fit a range of caps.
Try a custom sheet metal shop. My skills far proceed the caps and accessories that come from a distributor.

How about if you make a cap that cover the whole house?
