    Well, this is awkward. The Porsche CEO recently said: "The concept of the 911 doesn't allow for a pure electric car because we have the engine in the rear and if the weight of the battery were moved to the rear you couldn't drive the car. For this decade it's very clear to me that the 911 will be a car with an ICE." And yet, the clever guys and girls at Everrati have created a 'Signature' wide-body 911 to make us all drool. Now obviously, not that many of us will be able to afford this car, but we think it's very existence can create converts to electric. And that can only be a good thing.

    kWh? Range? AC charge speed? DC charge speed? charge port location? Luggage space? This would be much better to know vs. being reminded about 911 weight distribution for the 3, 4, and 5th time. The power and weight specs were provided, but that is not enough in my opinion.

    I think Jack should now drive Electric Classic Cars 911 EV. Two different approaches and prices. I'm pretty sure there are versions of the 911 which cost as much as this but with IC motors. This looks as good as I've seen, and it sounds as if it is worth the cost.
    BTW does anyone remember when Jeremy at old Top Gear discovered that his Ford GT 40 only had a range of 75 miles? The Stig ran out of fuel while thrashing it round their circuit!

      Iirc he mentioned that the car has 500 hp, weighs about 1350 kg and range is 150 miles. For the buyer of these kinds of vehicles that should be enough info to raise interest and do some mental math about the acceleration etc. Especially for a tailor made vehicle like this they might have some tricks up their sleeves how they got it working and don't want to reveal that info at this time of production. I'd also guess that the mentality is that if you need to ask it, you can't afford it.

Love to see an really good ev conversion of the 2002. Back in those days in Germany they had a set of latches you would put on the trunk and the trunk lid. It would make a spoiler of the trunk lid. But why not still make it a Manual you can shift Gears in, probably weight and complexity + finding a Transmission that can withstand the Torque, but still would be pretty cool.

    • @JackScarlett1
      @JackScarlett1 3 роки тому +1

      It would be VERY cool and I definitely think we'll see a few EV conversions that retain their manuals in the future (although I can't imagine what an engineering headache that would be). That being said, I reeeeally didn't need more things to think about at the wheel of this car and was grateful to be able to keep both hands on the wheel.

    And this is what modern manufacturers need to do: create EV's for enthusiast drivers. Most people who buy EV's now probably don't like driving, and they do it out of necessity (i.e. poor access to public transportation).
    If even one or two manufacturers can come out with a full-EV sports car, that creates that "analogue feel" of this thing, in a package that is reasonably affordable, they'll bring about a revolution in the enthusiast market.
    Yes, lots of people love cars for the sounds of the ICE under the hood, but the cost of fossil fuels is going to force many out of their favourite cars into things that don't come close in terms of driving experience, and that's a huge untapped market.

      Seems to be a common issue on most UA-cam videos at the moment, Drive Tribe is terrible for it but I think Hoonigan Autofocus is the worst going from loud music and the start and end, going to Larrys talking level being way lower to then his guests being even lower than him, it makes them almost unwatachable a times as either you have to keep adjusting the volume or put up with not being able to hear the speach sections properly.

    I wish there was some way to mass convert much more normal cars - your fiesta, focus, passat type of car. Think of the millions and millions of "normal" cars that will end up in the crusher or get shunted off to poorer countries to pollute some more. But I'm thinking there's absolutely no economic incentive from either the owner, the converter, the original manufacturer. Hmm.

      They would also mostly make really bad electric vehicles. We need more small EVs, but built from the ground up to optimise the space and packaging.
      Cars are very recyclable in general, so at least we have that.
