- 316L and 904L steel are both types of austenitic stainless steel used in various industries. 316L steel is low in carbon, contains 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, and 2-3% molybdenum, and is known for its corrosion resistance and high ductility. 904L steel contains higher amounts of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, as well as 1.5% copper, which makes it more resistant to harsh chemicals. While 316L steel is commonly used in healthcare, food processing, and marine engineering, 904L steel is often used in the oil and gas industry and chemical processing. The choice between these two types of steel depends on the specific application and its requirements.
Patek, Vacheron, Audemars and their like don't use 904L steel. This makes me wonder.
Grand Seiko uses everbriliant steel which is way more shinny than Rolex 904 and more corrosion resistant.
Thanks for this video, it is very helpful
You're just reading a script from steel suppliers - I doubt you even know what you're saying or what those industry buzz terms mean.
Why doesn't Patek and AP use 904L. They use the cheaper 316 that can be found on a Longines.
316 is my choice. Easier to find and bomb proof.
Same. I think 904 has more downsides than upsides at least for watches.
