Awesome to see anyone witness for the first time. It is for a fact in the argument for the greatest guitar performance ever recorded, and that sounds like fan talk hyperbole, but it isn't. Seeing this in 1995 when my bootleg VHS of this concert arrived from the mail order catalogue (the good old days of Motorola pagers and last gasps of pre-internet life :) ! ) even though he'd already become my favorite player a couple years before - man seeing this literally left me speechless for a long long time. He follows it up with a more jazz sounding chill song, almost just as incredible, called "Lenny" from same show, El Mocambo, highly recommend that...after those 2 songs ended the set, I really could not believe what I'd just seen. To me, this is the maximum possible usage of an electric guitar from any defining characteristic. Stevie is following a basic pattern and using go-to licks, but he is essentially improvising the entire time, he never played a song the same way twice, even more insane, he was able to reach that other dimension where music flows endlessly from an untapped source, and then bring it back and not miss a single note, playing at a ludicrous virtuoso level, while still maintaining the soul of true blues at every moment. He is a Titan of not just guitar, or blues, but music, and I love seeing reaction channels spread his legacy like this - in turn spreading the legacy of other older blues players hopefully and bringing the original source of all music we listen to today, to so many more people. The blues is simple, yet like that game "GO" very popular in Asia, the rules of which I don't understand whatsoever, there a trillion combinations and nuances and directions to go in a 3 chord song played on a single scale style, and SRV - boy did he ever master it, create his own sound, have a Tone handed down from the Gods - using the literal thickest strings a human can attempt to put on a guitar, and VERY few do - and he was just a cool, humble ,honest, giving amazing person. RIP, h gave us so much by age 36, it takes a bit of pain away every time I see a reaction as I know his spirit is still alive and well. Thanks man!

Shortly after SRV's death, I saw an interview with BB King and Albert King talking about their experiences playing with Stevie. Albert just nodded his head in wonder as BB described his near heart attacks as Stevie would hang his improv style over the edge of a 10,000 foot cliff and then yank it back with the whip snap of a hangman's noose. BB Said "my ass would tighten just waiting for him to crash into the wall, and then he'd leap into something completely different and never lose a beat." You could tell both men were in awe of SRV's talent, and no higher praise is possible.

In the early morning of Monday, August 27, 1990, American musician Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash near East Troy, Wisconsin, at age 35. He was one of the most influential blues guitarists of the 1980s, described by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as "the second coming of the blues".
Vaughan spent his last days performing with his band Double Trouble as the opening act for Eric Clapton at Alpine Valley Music Theater, thirty miles southwest of Milwaukee. After the concert concluded, Vaughan and three members of Clapton's entourage boarded a helicopter that crashed into the side of a nearby ski hill shortly after takeoff. The day before his death, Stevie Ray Vaughan allegedly told his band and crew members about a nightmare that he had in which he was at his own funeral and saw thousands of mourners. He felt "terrified, yet almost peaceful". Backstage after the show that evening, the musicians talked about playing together again, particularly with Eric Clapton for a series of dates at London's Royal Albert Hall in early 1991 as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Moments later, Clapton's tour manager, Peter Jackson, said that the weather was getting worse and they had to leave soon. Vaughan's last words to drummer Chris Layton were, "I love ya".

Hey JM... Imagine you're a teenager in the late 60s-70s and the music you're reacting to now is coming out each week. BLOWING everyone's mind. There will never be another time quite like those years. PURE Talent with NO digital assistance. Live performances that shook the world we lived in. Those days are gone. Music will never be the same level of excellence.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was a master of his craft, he was born in Dallas Texas Oct 3, 1954 he has a brother 3 yrs older then him named Jimmie Vaughan who is a great guitarist In his own right and had a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jimmie got an electric guitar when he was 10 yrs old and Stevie Ray loved to play with it when Jimmie left the house, Stevie Ray got his first guitar on October 3, 1961 for his 7th birthday, it was a toy guitar with cowboys and Indians on it but still Stevie Ray learned to play Thunderbird by The Night Caps and Wine, Wine, Wine, by Lonnie Mack (a toy amazing.) In 1964 Jimmie gave Stevie Ray his electric guitar when Stevie Ray had joined a band called The Chantones along with basses Tommy Shannon of Double Trouble had their first gig at a roller rink, Tommy and Stevie Ray went to school together. Stevie Ray's career only span 7 years and in that 7 years he accomplished so much on June 13, 1983 Stevie Ray released his first album Texas Flood and on December 13 1983 Stevie was voted Guitar Player Magazine's Best New Talent, Best Electric Blues Guitar Player and Best Guitar Album with his Texas Flood album, Stevie Ray and Jeff Beck are the only 2 Triple award guitarist ever. On November 8, 1984 Stevie Ray wins a W.C.Handy National Blues Award, Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year and was the first white person to win either. Stevie Ray won 6 Grammys, 5 W.C.Handy Awards, 10 Austin Music Awards and many more after his death, in 2000 Stevie Ray was inducted into The Blues Hall Of Fame and in 2015 he was inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Sadly Stevie Ray never enjoyed a #1 hit and after his death his song Crossfire written by Double Trouble went to #1 2 months after his death. In 1977 Stevie Ray put a band together called Triple Threat Reuve with Lou Ann Barton vocals but she left the band on Nov 24,1979 so Stevie Ray had to step up and sing, the band members started doing other things and the only one who stayed was drummer Chris Layton who joined the band on September 10,1978 then basses Tommy Shannon joined on June 13, 1981 Reese Wynans joined later on June 7, 1985 then Stevie Ray changed the name in 1980 to Double Trouble. This song Texas Flood was written by Larry Davis and Joseph Scott in 1955 it was written while Joseph Scott was having relationship problems. Larry Davis recorded and released it in 1958. Stevie Ray could play behind his head, backwards, one hand, broken string, switch guitar in the middle of a solo and never missed a beat, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, play with his teeth and even used his elbow but Stevie Ray could play behind his back longer than anyone ever has. On August 25, 1990 Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy, Robert Clay and Stevie Ray's brother Jimmie Vaughan went to East Troy Wisconsin to open 3 shows for Eric Clapton at The Alpine Valley Music Theater, all 3 shows sold out with 40,000 people each show. After Eric Clapton finish his last song on August 27,1990 Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy, Robert Clay and Stevie Ray's brother Jimmie Vaughan stepped on stage with Eric Clapton, the last song Stevie Ray ever performed was Sweet Home Chicago by Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray boarded a helicopter that crashed into the side of a mountain right after takeoff and everyone on board were killed instantly. Imo Stevie Ray Vaughan will always be THE GOAT. oh geez sorry I didn't mean to write so long but I've been a huge Stevie Ray Vaughan fan for over 40 years and I have to learn how to make my messages short.

I just so want to be on the panet he arrived on. I could listen to him forever. He's one really cool cat. His absolute love of blues music sings from his soul even when he plays rock music you can hear that blues coming through. Its well recognised that his so called peers loved and respected him, for his Exceptional talent, wanted to play with him, in fact the late great Albert King said he only had one black daddy. Even in my opinion outshone Hendrix with his covers of him.

I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The fog was so bad after the show that we stopped and got a hotel room on the hour drive home. The next morning when I checked out of our room, proudly were my new Eric Clapton tshirt the clerk said "did you hear that Eric Clapton died in a helicopter crash last night?" I was devastated. As we continued home frantically searching the radio dial for info(no smart phones back then) finally heard the horrible news that it was SRV. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy and Stevie's brother Jimie. RIP SRV!

There's people out there that can match it, but not very many.. I would suggest "Voodoo Child" for your next song from him, it's cover of Jimi Hendrix, The version recorded at Austin City Limits is a great one. Stevie is one of the very few artists that are MUCH better live than on studio recordings every single time.. You could also take a listen to stevie ray vaughan sound check, it mind blowing.

@JMBoyTV , 'bout time!!! LOL Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV) and his brother Jimmie Vaughan are Texas boys... Oak Cliff (Dallas) and SRV went down to Austin. He can make his guitar talk. You need to check out Little Wing (a Hendrix jam) next, and then Tin Pan Alley. Another musician taken away from us all too early in life. Like John F Kennedy, everyone remembers where they were in they heard SRV had died (Aug of 1990). Jimmie still plays up here in Dallas, he's good, but not nearly the talent of SRV.

SRV cut his chops in a small city full of great guitarists, all of whom dreamed of big-times OR had fallen from those crests and were simply playing to enjoy themselves. And Stevie Ray knew being a good guitarist wasn't enough - so he worked on his showmanship skills. But so did they. Lead guitarists ran up pillars and backflipped, played upside down, anything to create 'notice' and 'attention'. Also, pay homage to the cameramen who had learned to place themselves at just the perfect location for the great fooage. (This performance was perhaps a decade into learning these skills (mid-70s), too.)

That's not at the Mocambo, its the El Mocambo! The venue still exists in Toronto, Canada and has hosted the likes of the Rolling Stones and April Wine.

"HOW???"... I own 3 Fender Stratocaster guitars, I can never get them to sound quite like SRV. So, I don't know how he does it. Some kind of Voodoo Magic

Listen to how Tight Tommy Shannon is on the base. He gives a sidewalk for Stevie to stroll down. It's like Blues Shuffle in C by ZZTOP

JM, I want to Thank You for the time and effort you put into your “Content”. I want to thank you for selecting many of my suggestions since your #41 back on Jan 14th
I prefer to suggest songs that may not be too well known by the general population, Most are what are called “Album Cuts”. Not played on radio much and usually late night FM stations or chopped up for radio time. The songs all have some of the finest musicians that ever created what we now refer to as “Classic Rock” Songs that if you did not have the album, you may have never heard, Seeing them performed LIVE is the way many people heard for the first time…. “It‘s Alright Ma, I‘m Only Bleeding“…“Magnum Opus”…. “Child Of Vision”… “Time Has Come Today”… “The Garden Of Allah”…. “Love To Love”. They may not get “Searched” very much, but they are a must hear, to hear some of the best musicians and the amazing music they gave us. Every Note played by someone who took the time to learn his/her instrument..

JM... For your own entertainment, this is one of those concerts you will want to see the entire show. "Little Wing"... a cover of Jimi's legendary song is spectacular. You want to watch both artist do it and "Voodoo Chile".... "Astonished"... Says it right.

Everything from the Austin City Limits concert is great. Voodoo Chile is a Hendrix cover and SRV Kills it.
