In 1940s I was a small boy ; My mother NCV, my cousin (elder sister) Late Lalitha used to sit in OONJAL and sing in chorus many carnautic songs at Mannarrgudi. No electricity, no recording facility but the music reverberates in my ear

Nostalgic! My father late T B Narasimhachar( was a music critic, by name 'Saragrahi') was a great admirer of her voice. My mother used to sing her songs learning from records.

NC Vasantha kokilam amma was the most top performer classical singer, especially in the field of Tamil language, sang plenty of Tamil songs, unfortunately she expired at the age of 32, within a short period, she gave so much concerts all over Tamilnadu. Her Majestic voice is still whispering to all, if she survives, no doubt she would've been challenging to the great legends like MS amma and MLV amma, she did wonderful job in the field of classical music, in Tamil language. Yes, the first few lines was in Jikki's voice for Padmini. I think the movie was 'Kalyaam Panniyum Bhramachari.' Memories take me down the memory lane to my young school days. Actually, those few lines which is fluttering in my mind prompted me for this search.
MSS and NCV were contemporaries and great Carnatic musicians and so also GNB.

This and may other such Carnatic songs by NCV were very popular and aired by Radio Malaysia in the 1950s and 1960s. I'm glad that I have few of such songs recorded those days which I hear them now occasionally. One such beautiful song is "Pillai Pirayathile aval penmayai kandu mayangi vittein". Both were very great in their fields,but MS amma had a wizard husband,who was an expert in marketting in those days.NCV despite her ability,was unlucky to be stuck with TB which was a dreaded disease in those days(1952)&succumbed to it.
Yes we can respect the public opinion but each one's life course evolves differently .Comparison is not right thing to do after years rolled by .It can be judgmental, subjective and incorrect in the present time.
I am mesmerised by her voice...
