- Camper Trailer, which style of trips does this one suit? In this video I give you my thoughts and experience with a larger type of Camper Trailer.
We spent 7 nights in the PUMA FF Camper Trailer on a family trip to Shark Bay. Predator Campers kindly let us test their Camper in return for some feedback about the trailer.

I like the advice about staying calm to stay married. I can see this leading to a helluva fight if you roll into a camp late with tired kids and a cranky wife.
been there done that every f#$%ing time i pitch the tent haha...iv gotten to the stage i just tell my wife to mind the baby and sit down and watch...its less stressful :) god bless my lovely wife
Ok
you all prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Harvey Caiden instablaster ;)
@Arlo Matthias thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Ronnie, Great videos. I've spent the entire morning watching them. Really good for a learner like me. Love it
Love, Love, Love the family advice bro! Actually very great tip with the kids and what they should be doing for safety and helping them be part of the integral family with responsibilities. Keep up the great work brother!
All of your videos are good, thanks ronny dahl.
Great video. I know the experience exactly! We have a semi off-road camper which suits long term stays. We hit the trails and go back to camp at night. I like the idea of setting up a rooftop camper or oztent for short term with a kitchen in the back of the wagon. Opens up a few options for overnighters and day trips too.
Great video, Ronny. I can't stop looking at camper trailers lately. This video gives some good reminders about how these are best used.
Another great Video Ronny
Awesome tip about having a can before you set up.
Yes, many people don't realise the work it takes to set up and pack up
I always ask Camper Trailer people questions after their trip away, as they generally have a different opinion than they had prior to going away :)
Another great video Ronny, thank you. We have had a couple of Camper trailers over the past 15 years, soft floor and now we have rear fold hard floor. We actually find the camper trailer brilliant for an over night stop. We just don't put the annexe / awning up for the one night. The great thing we find is we can be set up within 1 minute of parking up, beds are already made, ready to cook and have a drink :) cheers Tony
Oh forgot to mention we also have a couple of kids to, these days they are sleeping in a double swag, otherwise they just sleep in sleeping bags on the floor of the camper trailer.
Great video once again
I have the same trailer and I tow it behind my cruiser and I love it
Hey Ronny thanks for the advice
Great tips! Thank you!
"Have a beer before you start setting up" is a number one mandatory camping rule.
It is seriously a saver of friendships and marriages, never skip this step.
Also most places that sell campers will also hire them out. It is a big commitment and even if you have cash coming out of your ears so money is no problem you still need too decide what type of trailer suits your needs. Even just finding out how your vehicle (and you the driver) goes towing a trailer is worth the effort of hiring one first.
Mat Gee.theres an easy solution, dont get a camper trailer
great relationship advice when it comes to settings/packing up +Ronny Dahl My partner also found it both amusing and insightful, but then again, she's usually the zen one out of us after i've done a 10 hour stint behind the wheel hahaha
And great new addition of the beard, looking great brother
Great video! Lot's of detail. Thanks!
great review Ronny
how good is the tip on keeping the kids busy with simple tasks!!!
Love your car, love your stuff and love your videos! Keep up the good job!
fantastic and inspirational.
Love the content keep it up!
as per usual, very useful video. Thanks!
Thanks for the video.
Great video. thanks heaps
Ahaha! I completely agree with you when u say have a drink before setting up camp! And don't get into and argument over the smallest things!
Great Video Mate.
Awesome video mate, tips on setting up camp with the kids....👍👍
Luv ya work. Nice to see you in a less than full on mode. You are so good at everything else but nice to see you have a bit of a challenge in this case. I mean that in a nice way. This is the sort area we are in. Wife and I just bought a Black Series Alpha. Have been scouring your pages and videos.... and yes', I'm subscribed.
thank you for great detail video as all way great watching full here as share lot detail to others in tips
Good on ya ronny...👍.. I always enjoy all ya videos....
Great video
Stay calm good advice
Hey Ronnie I love your advice about renting first. I like to Overland but for overnight camping the pop up tent trailer really stinks. I rented a couple times last year and this year not at all. I am taking my boys 11-13 for a trip to Michigans UP Drummond island and we'll be tenting and wheeling. But for base camp Ops there is nothing better than a little camper, spot on bro'.
the biggest thing with these is the set up and pack up of the trailer, the awning set up and pack up, the cooking gear and water, impact of weight and the ride quality. I really wished you talked about these things
UEV 490. Job done
great looking kids, they will remember these great trips! I relish my regular trips with my family and have tried to do the same with mine. I grew up sleeping in a cabin tent even in the middle of the winter with snow and all. Despite most dragging trailers and generators I prefer my wall tent and wood burning stove. Only modern addition is a foldable solar panel for those family members who like their devices (mostly for pictures and videos). Today we did a beach trip and it was a great escape from the stressful city life. What do you do for bathing? We use a camp shower which minimizes the discomfort brought on by saltwater. Great job, keep up the great work!
+USCOMBATDIVER shower bag if I. In the bush, on the coast I'll use the ocean then rinse off with a bit of water. Other than that I'll just wait until I pass a shower. I between ill use baby wipes and paper towels
Love the intent of these trailers by my god they are insanely priced. For under $10,000 I can by a brand new 18' fully contained trailer.
Good bit of kit, especially if you have wee ones around. Brother in law swears by them.
would like to be on modified once i get my power wagon set up for overland travel keep up the good videos and video idea small mods that normally get forgotten or you do with experience like i seen grip take on a trucks door seals because they had stripped the paint from getting in and out so they put grip take to cover the damage but it gave a place to climb in would love to see a video like that thanks
Good tips mate, I disagree on avoiding fights with missus though. Have had some great fights in the past that keeps us laughing till this day that I wouldn't change, except for that one where I ate a page or two of a Gordon's map to end a fight while driving lost lol.
I feel like it really varies on what type of trip you're going on and how many people are going. Like if it were only me and one other person in one 4wd is settle for a rooftop tent or a ground tent. With the rooftop you'd have to pack it up for the day trip portion. So like I said it does vary on what type of trip you take
With instructions, laminate the pages. Hole punch the pages an put into a binder with the rest of the important things. Eg. Gas burner book, fridge book, rego paper, ect.
Another great informative video! Would have been great to see your wife and get her feedback on the whole experience, let face it if she isn't happy mine isn't going :)
Old windy shark bay👍🏻
Also do you think that being not used to camping out of the trailer may skew your impression? We found with our camper trailer the first few trips took awhile to setup and pack up, the last big trip we did with a number of 1 night stops we had setup/packup at around 15-20mins.
Love the beard!
Love the video and how much did you buy your cruiser for?
Great video. What do you recommend for a family for 4 for quick set up and set down for quick over nighters AND Basecamp. Is there such a camper that’s not too pricey?
this is why i pack two king size swaps in camper trailer, still have kitchen, shower etc. but just put swags up for camping one night
When you buy camp trailer try & get the same axle & wheel size as the car that you are towing with, less spares to carry then & the trailer will follow your car tracts making towing easier, especially on the beach.
+allan grey great points there mate been thinking about the same thing. I reckon to get that you'd need a custom build but.

Twh Az
This is great stuff.
You gonna test any offroad caravans aswell?
Hey Ronny,
I have a 2013 Holden Colorado RG, LTZ, Dual Cab and was wondering if you could do a modified episode on one. I haven't seen much around and would like to get some ideas.
Thanks.
Ronnie, thanks for the insight! Do you believe a smaller trailer would be more manageable for 1 night stays? What makes this more time consuming than say setting up a ground tent?
What do you and your family typically camp in?
Thanks!!! Love the channel!
1 more tip I will add if going up north you might be fine with this or similar setups though if planning trip where you be in a a forest setting i do recommend that having a caravan with a support skeleton it might save your life having lived around the mundaring shire there a places where there are trees prone to throwing branches and alas with the support nothing but what i would class as tent type poling structure can be wiped out such limbs falliing on your popup tent camper..
I also don't recommend popup anything within anything classed as a caravan or camper trailer for safety reasons..
If I was going to design something to tow behind any cruiser I would use the chassis rails from the ute variant as a starting base and a full tray base that way you have you have something that fits the same wheels and profile as the cruiser..
I would also suggest where you instructional documents have a sealed water proof document and have 3 copies 2 on paperback and 1-2 pdf's stored on tablets/laptops/desktops..
also note anything you have additionally installed must have documented maintenance procedures as you never know when you may have to do a temp repair to get yourself to a mechanic..
All about practice. Do it enough times you can pack un pack a popup in the same time it takes to setup alot of tents. No more tents ever again for me
Ronny what do you reckon about ARB's new Frontier tanks?
i would really like a 79 duel cab and a patriot th610
Ronnie, was the Camper that crossed the River in another of your videos water tight? This one looks like a water crossing would create lots of problems.
Hi, what do you think about bruder trailer solution for off-road overlanding?
7:17 when the LSD hits
what about slide on campers? they are suitable for CSR and Gibb river
You should reach out to Patriot Campers and see if they will let you test and review a X1 or maybe even one of there toy haulers
When I was a kid my parents used to take us camping with one of their friends from work. The husband of the family that came always had to have the fanciest shit, he used to upgrade his camper each year. All I learned from that was that they are an utter nightmare to deal with. Especially if you get to camp late and need to set up in the dark. Really find them more complicated than just pitching a tent.
They have their plus sides but I feel they have more cons. Really feel like they'd make you more tied down instead of being able to explore.
Just a note depending where you are the kitchen could be a really big mistake.
From what I learned it was always keep your food and sleeping area separate. Cook down wind and at least 15ft away from where you will be sleeping. hang all food from a tree at least 15 ft high. This really only applies to places with bears though. I've been to sites where they've had black bears, not big ones but still they tore open someone's SUV like a can of beans.
No big predators to worry about in Australia.
+AGRSSV1 Dingo's got my babyyyyy
Apart from the drop bears of course.
Patriot campers! I suspect a 200 series rear coil spring conversion is on the cards :)
This is a Predator, not Patriot. Coils would be awesome though
just realized you changed out your spotties....what was wrong with the 240s?
Very jealous - we don't have anything like this in the US. I especially like the pull out kitchen.
Import one or have it built locally. (Yes, I'm a smart arse)
There are a few trailer makers here in the States that do units like this. Head to expeditionportal.com and visit the forums 🙂
Kimberley Kampers Australia are available in the USA. Don't know where though. Maybe check their web site www.kimberleygroup.com.au/usa I have had one for 15 years now. They are built extremely strong.
There are a few makers of these. I built my own for towing behind my YJ but mine is a lot smaller but still has a 20 gallon water tank two batteries, but I'm using a roof top tent as my shelter instead of a pop-up set up.
This brand isn’t available in the US that I can see but Patriot and Conquers are now.
what happened to the bed of the cruiser? it used to have a box on the back.
love ya vids mate, offroad limitations of these trailers would be good to know but you didn't touch on that. looking at building one for NZ conditions.
The limitation is the vehicle you use to tow them.
Good 1 mate I always get divorced when we set up an annex
You have also got to think about where you r going to store it.
Sleipner, as in the excavator transport system?
I am wondering just Serious Wheeling/Offroading you can do with these Offroad trailers ? Now I suppose the larger more heavier trailers would hinder your Offroad capabilities but what about a smaller or mid-sized Offroad trailer ? I wish Ronny Dahl would Opine in on this question? Seems to me since I dont have experience with towing one of these offroad trailers; but it seems to me that a mid sized one would Not hurt your offroad capabilities that much, and the smaller trailers would not hurt them much at all..IDK though and would be nice for someone with the experience to give their opinions...thnxx......
First 5 mods to do on a 4x4?
I have to disagree with one of his comments. Hard floor camper trailers are extremely fast to setup when compared to others ( soft floor especially ). They are ideally suited from "one night stays". For example, the new Cub Frontier forward fold camper trailer takes less than 2 minutes to setup, less awning & canvas extensions. How much faster & less hassle do you want?
Bazza Boy Yeah, I agree. Maybe he should have suggested his preferred alternative.
Ripper beard, bud!
Hey Ronny, what is your current opinion on your general grabbers ? Due for a new set of tyres after a good all rounder, thanks mate
+Toby Smith they are pretty good mate, will do a review on them soon as they are on the way to 50% tread.
I take pictures of complicated instructions on my phone, but remember to transfer those photos after you get a new phone. I did not.
It would be better if the trailer looked as tuff as the Landy :)
Hi Ronnie, as always a fantastic video, your info and quality of videos always kicks arse haha (yep arse, i'm a pom lol) which camping site did you stay at in Shark Bay please. Am in Geraldton and thinking about a trip up there in early December.
+Sir_Forsaken nanga station was not so great but Monkey Mia was awesome. For real camping I'd recommend Bottle bay
We use uk spelling in Australia too mate - great to see people who can spell arse and gaol
Ronny Dahl Thanks Ronnie, much appreciated.
Harry Fisher Most of my Aussie friends seem to insist on pronouncing words like Americans pronounce them and use American words like hood and butt. Possible a bit of an identity crisis these days maybe?
Weird! I don't know any aussies that use the word hood (unless it's something connected to a coat that covers your head). 'Butt' definitely gets used - I had never really noticed that it was an American term.
Our pronunciation is a mashup of bloody everywhere I reckon - we still say 'zed' and 'tomarto' though so I don't think we've strayed too far.
would have setting the legs up added that much time?
#Thanks_Ronny_Dahl
Fuck the beard is coming along well
Good advice, but I cannot agree with your conclusion in base camping only, because then you need to let people know the alternative for 4 people !!! What solution is there to sleep every day somewhere else with fast setup and break down. Any good tent will need several pegs (my biggest of 6 stormtents has up to 65 pegs), you may need to set up kitchen in the tent as well, get power to the tent, etc. The only fast tent I know is a Quechua 4 person plastic instant throw tent. Of course you can put pop up tents onto your car for 4, say 2 for each 2 persons, but let's face it, in rain no real living and kitchen area for the full family. Either way you twist it, you will have a problem. If you practise a lot, you can find camper trailers that can set up fast.
soundscollector 65 pegs seems a bit ridiculous
I agree. 5 minute set without the awning, self contained kitchen, up off the ground, etc. At least that long to set up any tent large enough to hold a family.
Hey Ronny this may be a rude question to ask but you can answer however you want.
I'm looking into a brand new 79 duel cab land cruiser, i was wondering how much you paid for yours, if it was second hand or brand new, and if you reckon its worth it to buy one of these vs something like a new ford ranger!
Thankyou!
If you want more road manners and luxury (NVH, etc) get the ranger, if you want a tough vehicle that will do whatever you tell it to, get the 79 just make sure you get the lockers.
Thanks, they are really pricey for how little technology they have in the interior which is what annoys me the most!
.
It would be better if they made camper trailers for the disabled to use
stay married...To anyone camping with a family, thats the number 1 tip.
been thinking about one of those small single axle US military trailers with a roof top tent on it. the military trailers are a little higher than most trailers and are built for off road and would be spot on with the hight of my truck, would just have to get a pintle hitch for the truck. here is an example just picture a roof top tent on it instead of the cover thats on there: tucson.craigslist.org/tro/6050043740.html
show us ur patrol
Good vid but that camper looked like a real hassle to set up!!
And you only have 66k
I wish so bad that companies in the US would make something like this and it not be super expensive.
They are super expensive here aswell
trade you, you can have the cheap campers and we'll have the cheap full sized trucks. I really want a cummins ram, not paying $130k tho
The Cummins is a nice engine. I personally have a the Hemi because I wanted the Power Wagon capabilities. If Ram sends a Power Wagon that way, snatch one up.
Black Series Campers in Los Angeles. Almost Indentical to this.
Where does Jeffy sleep? :D
+Scott Bell hahaha he stayed at home and watched to house
please look into the patriot campers x1 you will never go back
Really? You don't want to rollout the support legs for one night? Mate its 5 minutes to set the tent up, thats frankly just a little lazy.
I wanna come to Australia and buy a trailer.... all of them are straight shit in the US or obscenely expensive. Why can’t people just make a quality product for a good price?
28000 dollars for a camper woe....
lol buy a patriot trailer and have no limitations lol simple
