The micro:bit is a small computer board with an ARM Cortex-M0 microprocessor plus sensors and LEDS. It is part of an initiative to get kids coding. Interested? Here is my full review.

Gary is by far the best on Android Authority. Super professional, and informative. Wish you would do some of the smartphone reviews.
Thanks for your kind comments. I do occasionally do some of the smartphone reviews, my most popular was the Huawei P9 review, it almost has 1,000,000 views (but not quite): ua-cam.com/video/8OfBr-cp5Dw/v-deo.html
That's right, you did! So many reviews after CES it slipped my mind👍 but certainly appreciate your informative videos, they're always unique and not matched by any other mobile-focused channel.

bloody love Gary and his videos. Been watching for ages and these videos are great. Thank you Gary
Thanks a lot! Just bought one for college I'm from Canada
garry thank you so much
I only know c++....this is good to know. Thank you for explaining IDE
can i watch the grand tour if i buy it?
+android authority, what's going on with y'all's app? I haven't seen any updates in on over a week.
Thanks you for all videos ......
you are the best
gary can u make a video on DSP integration in mobile SOCs
"Gary Explains" is nice thumbs Up !
So funny you would mention Commodore 64 my very first Job was Toyrus where I sold those computer's which got me interested in Tech and Computer's from their I learned how to take them apart. I then went into Manhattan and started looking for a job. Thanks for sharing Memories.Deb
Isn't "Hello World" a good entry point into programming! :-P
Great great video as always sir :)
wrr
No, it's over-used and cliche'd.
gary u are the best..... keep it up.
I like the ending. That was great with the snow falling and having a cold. Thanx for the vid.
this is great! I've just gotten into programming and I have 2 raspberry pis I've been tinkering with.i was about to buy are but I'm going to try this out instead.
Hi Gary, thanks for this. Have you tried attaching external components using the pins? Is there a connector system to do so or are you expected to solder?
These boards are aimed at young people as a way of introduction, so there is no soldering here. You can attached wires to the connectors using crocodile clips!
if aimed at young beginners why not terminal blocks? have to run to an electronic store to buy crocodile clips? which are so big they like short 4 of those contacts together?
Thanks you😊
What's the age category for this?
I have done this in school 💻 computer lessons
YES let gary do more he knows what he is talking about rather than reading off a box
very informative
Are the bottom copper strips used as I/O? If so, how can you use/reach them?
Yes and crocodile clips. The idea being that no soldering is needed!
So you only get 3 I/Os (plus power and gnd)? Because those narrow strips look a bit too small to attach crocodile clips without shorting them :P..
ayy in school we were using them today :D
I'm actually gonna do this in my school!
can someone please provide a link to buy the BBC micro?
do you mean the original, or the newer micro:bit?
Hey Gary,
Why don't you open an UA-cam channel named "Gary Explains."
I really like your videos.
Thanks
Gary what are your thoughts on having programming taught in highschools? Maybe not even pure coding, but courses such as Critical thinking, or courses in logic. Teach relational algebra, logic in the real world, and maybe a language like Visual basic.
Myself as a student in Comp Sci, its amazing how this sort of field changes the way you think through complex problems, I personally think it should be a requirement to take some sort of logic class. Huge companies habe recently been sponsoring Code.org in order to help push teaching programming to younger audiences
but if foreigner's can get visas for coding jobs what good is it to get a degree?
this is very helpful
i love the micro bit.
I had the ZX Spectrum!!!!
I have 3 of them
When you look around the class room and see you are the only one using java script
nice descusssion
nice very nice
what's your qualification?
I have an computer science related honors degree.
Gary Sims can you make a video on how computer softwares are made?
Mr.tech guy That is an interesting idea, could you be more specific please.
Gary Sims i made a simple snake game and i tried to run it from compiler and did run from compiler but from ms dos which is very boring. please help me
Mr.tech guy Dude, no. Go back to school.
can it stream topgear?
Sure and play Crysis.
please give me 15 of these thanks
okie
Do you need a TV licence for it lol
I like the idea of trying to get people to program. But I feel like they are missing the point of the 1980s Home computers. You didn't need to have another computer to use them. You just needed a TV. For computers like the ZX81 you just needed a TV and maybe a tape recorder to use it. And it wasn't unusual for even a poor family to have TV and tape recorder.
And they were teaching basic and logo programming to elementary school students when I was a kid. My older brother bought a Color Computer MC10, kind of a Tandy version of the ZX81, and I was writing code on that when I was 10 years old without a classroom. I specifically wrote a mathematically naive version of breakout that always reflected the ball by just inverting the X or Y velocity when the ball hit something. I don't think these "Block" programming languages are that brilliant. I think they are underestimating what children are capable of. Kids have a mind like a sponge which learns language skill faster than a college age student can and when they are fixated on something like programming they just won't stop. I kind of get it, but an IDE for a text based programming language would be probably better in the long run. And if you already have a PC/Computer then what's really necessary is to not require an "add on" or even a download for you start learning programming on it. It should be part of the natural way you interact with the system just as it was with the original BBC Micro.
I have no more ideas.
If the BBC SBC didn't run Python, the universe would be out of balance, somehow.
Late 70s and early 80s, not late 80s and early 90s
Since when the British media did this?
I think it was released a few months ago.
Audio quality is terrible on this video.
Yes, sorry about that, I had to use a completely different audio setup for this video as my normal audio equipment broke. However everything is fixed now, so it should be back to normal for the next video.
this vs arduino uno r3
please reply
cause i bought an srduino uno r3 so is it waste
Arduino Uno is a good board, it isn't a waste.
BBC micro bit? Confusing:/
ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I have it . . . I got bored of it after 1 computing lesson
Gary How much do you earn for one video??
Amarthya P he is not gonna reply
With the release of the Maker Uno, the Micro:bit is looking less appealing
The Micro:bit has bluetooth, a compass, and an accelerometer on the board.
dice is the plural brexit ninja!
INTRO TOOOOOOOO LOUD.. than the voice of anchor-er. Have to play with volume controls every time i watch this channels video. Please consider fixing that.
another popularity contest of programming languages? after suffering basic, machine code, assembler, pascal, c, c++, java, javascript, perl, shell, bash, css, html, php, R, I opt out.

Try not to punch a production of it. He will fire you and Amazon are going to make a deal with you.
only if they put good rgb lights it would be perfect in this state is stupidly wasted effort :'(
This guy makes me sleep!
KingofDestruction because you're not interested.
Well the next time you have trouble sleeping at night, you know which of my videos to play to help you! ;-)
CriticalCritics nah is his British accent
CriticalCritics its his tone of voice, he doesn't speak like joshua vergara.
Gary Sims thats true!!
🙄😏😌😌
Thats way too overpriced for its capabilities. If RBP zero can be sold for 5 euros, the microbit can surely be sold for a euro or two.
BBC? Lol

Hey android authority I'm first plz pin
Abdulkadir Abdi lies
Block building needs to go. Kids will be turned off when they see the complexity of actual code. They are being lied to, they think "Look what I did with my micro:bit, I'm such a good programmer".... All the while they haven't seen nor written a single statement of code.
That can be fixed by having IDEs that use blockbuilding. Also, blockbuilding systems need to develop a way to manage large chunks of code. In ten years, the idea of writing 'single statements of code' may seem as arcane as programming directly in machine language.
@@jimmyzeng9011 rather than riding the bike perfectly, putting the bike together. Blocks are a good way to learn programming by thinking logically first. It is probably the way of the future as Joe, above, says.
@@jimmyzeng9011 I know we agree about blocks. I just thought I could sharpen your analogy. I am sure they use blocks for programming in star trek. And AI.......
BBC? lol
Shame Java script is unsecured and pretty much dead technology now!
Your comment DIDNT age well!
zzzzz. tiring and slow
lol wow - so playstations are to blame
Yep! :-)
lotsarats no the nes
get that Wang out of your mouth so I can hear you
AA, I don't think these kinds of videos help. please stop.
You must be new here...
Gary Sims I'm not. Maybe you are?
I have been making videos for Android Authority for about 2 years, does that make me new? I am not sure? I think my point was that most (all?) of my Gary explains videos are generally well received, with lots of positive comments and a good like/dislike ratio... Just look at the other comments here, I think you will find that you are in the minority here. But I am sorry you don't like my videos. But you don't have to watch them, if you don't want to.
Gary Sims I've been a subscriber since Joshua Vergara did a drop test in Hong Kong. Does that make me new? I don't think so. Now let's go back to business. We both know the reason you replied to my comment is because what I said is true. I'm not saying I speak for everyone. Just sayin'.
"We both know the reason you replied to my comment is because what I said is true." Errrmmmm, no... I think you be trolling me now!
