In Groucho's interview with Dick Cavett in 1969, Cavett asked him how the industry would remember his brother Chico, with whom he had performed for 40 years. Groucho thought a minute, then replied, "Well, he WAS the man who introduced gonorrhea to the Vaudeville circuit."
:47 - GROUCHO: "Here, gimme that. Let's cut this short." (tears up speech.) So many times I've wanted to do the same thing at stupid company meetings when some boring-as-fuck manager gives a so-called 'motivational' talk...
The straight actors in this scene are absolutely brilliant. You wouldn't think they were acting. In all the Marx Brothers' films in fact. Thanks for uploading.
So many gems in one scene! "Well, we're all right as long as the water supply holds out!" "What do you think happened? We forgot a the airplane!" "You know they may have to build a dam in back of him?"
Wow, this classic Marx Brothers clip is SO funny....Chico saying, "we got 3 feet from landing and ran out of gas, then went back" is SO funny 🤣🤣 then 3rd time got 1/2 way and forgot the plane! 🤣
Chico was a perfect foil for his brother Grouch, and companion for Harpo. I doubt we'll ever see such a trio of genius comedians again. I'll kick in a word for Zeppo as well, who actually wrote many of the gags these guys used. Robert Alda could sing, but he was definitely an outsider. Groucho once said, had Chico not been an addict to gambling, his mind was that of a mathematical calculator. Harpo could barely read, yet he could pick up any instrument and play it well within a few minutes. Groucho had the equivalent of several PhD's from the vast amounts of reading he did. Zeppo held numerous patents for machinery, and Gummo invented a foldable box for groceries! No flies on these boys.
What an interesting prop glass Harpo has when the camera isn't zoomed in. It's funnel-shaped and very narrow on the inside to reduce the amount that he had to drink I guess.
Aaron, that's how great they were- believe it or not- they never ad libbed but it always seemed that way - they had the best writers in the business in their glory days
When the brothers were on broadway, they did ad-lib. In the Coconuts, this carried over with Groucho cracking unexpected jokes which the cameraman struggled to capture. I suspect in later movies they stuck to the script closely, due to production costs.
Production Companies: Warner Bros. (current owner) Turner Entertainment (current owner) Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (Distributor and Presentation) Marx Brothers Entertainment (copyright holder) Irving Thalberg Productions (production)
Uh...no. There were no such entities as "Irving Thalberg Productions" and "Marx Bros. Entertainment" Loews Incorporated (MGMs parent company) owned the original copyright until 1957 when MGM and Loews were forced to separate due to anitrust laws. MGM owned the copyright until 1986 when Turner Entertainment purchased the MGM film library. The copyright is currently held by Turner Entertainment thru Warner Bros.
"They want you to go to City Hall and the mayor is gonna make another speech. We can tear up the mayor's speech when we get there." They should do this at every political convention.
You really need to read Groucho's book;" GROUCHO and ME",....written by Groucho/Julius Marx himself,......nonstop HILARIOUS NONSENSE yet very intelligent humor from Vaudeville up into this TV days!.....best book you have ever read!...........
"Tell them you're not here." "What if they don't believe me?" "They'll believe you when you start talking."
"Of course, you know, this means war!" I can't wait to show this clip to my daughter so she sees where Bugs Bunny got a bunch of his material.

lmao i watched all those interviews too. way too funny
Chico is one of those rare comedians that can make utter nonsense sound like perfect sense.
Yep. That's why the crowd didn't question the authenticity of his story at all.
So can Donald Trump... .
@@shanefistell8890 leave Trump out of it u idiot
@@shanefistell8890 no it's the other way around.
I know Im pretty randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online?
The Chico speech is one of the funniest things I have ever heard in my life!
So surreal and ridiculous.
"This time I take a plenty gas."
and a know whata ma talkin about
@Ch'iidii .... Ah, I had no idea. I watched as a kid and today I watch again.
@Ch'iidii .... LOL thanks for your reasoning. It's all clear now.
"And that's a how we fly across the ocean, we take a the steam boat." Tears
"I'm going out to arrange your bail." I love Groucho's snark during this scene.
"What do I say?"
"Tell them you're not here."
"Suppose they don't believe me."
"They'll believe you when you start talking."
Ahhh...but how are you going to arrange it? Front to left or right back?
You know they may have to build a dam in back of him.
:47 - GROUCHO: "Here, gimme that. Let's cut this short." (tears up speech.) So many times I've wanted to do the same thing at stupid company meetings when some boring-as-fuck manager gives a so-called 'motivational' talk...
"Talk fast I see a man in the crowd with a rope"
The straight actors in this scene are absolutely brilliant. You wouldn't think they were acting. In all the Marx Brothers' films in fact. Thanks for uploading.
Hairy Neck frequently they ignored the Marx brothers because they’d improvise a lot
I had Chico's whole bit memorized when I was a kid.
This is one of my favorite Marx Brothers moments. Chico's part gets me every time. Thanks for the upload!
Marx Brothers are timeless. As long as there are anarchists in this world, there will be a place for them
In Spain, we listened a very different speech!!! At the end Chico said "And that's how our beards grew!!!!". 😂😂😂😂😂
A veces cambia.
Hahaha - that’s also very funny!!
I absolutely love everything about the Marx brothers films.
This is a classic, comedy at its finest!
The little head shakes that Harpo does at 2:15 when Chico says what they aren't going to do make this scene next level.
"Gentlemen? It gives me great pleasure to..."
"Quiet!"
Love Groucho's ubruptness!
I love Groucho's litter laugh towards the audience at 1:44. Little things like that...hilarious!
"What'll you give me to set fire to your beard?" I wasn't expecting that loool
Laugh out out out loud😁
So many gems in one scene!
"Well, we're all right as long as the water supply holds out!"
"What do you think happened? We forgot a the airplane!"
"You know they may have to build a dam in back of him?"
0:33 - Groucho's face after he closes the door.
Wow, this classic Marx Brothers clip is SO funny....Chico saying, "we got 3 feet from landing and ran out of gas, then went back" is SO funny 🤣🤣 then 3rd time got 1/2 way and forgot the plane! 🤣
"Talk fast. I see somebody in the crowd with a rope!"
Classic clips of a very different world. And funny too!

Zeppo held several Patents? I had no idea!
Robert Alda?
Don't you mean Allan Jones?
What do i say? Tell them you're not here! Suppose they don't believe me? They'll believe you when you start talking!
This is one of Chico's best bits
‘Talk fast! I see a man in the crowd with a rope.’
Italo Balbo at the Chicago City Hall, 1933.
Chico is classic, but to be honest, you can't pick a marx brother who is the funniest...they are all crazy
We can rule out Zeppo.
Perfect picture at the end.
I like how no one finds it suspicious that their hair is a different color then their beards.
Chico Marx is very underrated. love all Marx Brothers though. its like they threw 4 crazy people in a movie that didnt read the script. genius
Except for the straight guy, Zeppo.
I would say three
Funny enough, many consider Zeppo to be the best.
Best film. Ever made
By the way, WHN was the actual MGM owned, New York City radio station at the time.
Station is now WEPN on 1050.
What an interesting prop glass Harpo has when the camera isn't zoomed in. It's funnel-shaped and very narrow on the inside to reduce the amount that he had to drink I guess.
"The three greatest aviators, but you notice they're traveling by boat..."

I want one of those beards for xmas!
1:45 probably my favorite joke ever.
"So we gotta sit down and we talk it over," lol.

The same way that they have to go back because they forgot the airplane.
You cannot put emphasis how great Marx Brothers were
Still made more sense than the Biden-Trump debate.
i hope you realize by now - ALL BIDENS FAULT 😆
IMPEACH HIM
LOCK POLOSI IN AN ASSYLUM
BAN THE DEMS 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
"They want you to go to City Hall and the mayor is gonna make another speech. We can tear up the mayor's speech when we get there."
They should do this at every political convention.
lol
Atsa Nice !!
watch the handle of the pitcher of water. Moves by itself.
Of course you know this means war!
I'd have love to have been in the room with the script writers ; pure genius not puerile like modern comedy !! 😀
I wonder if this scene was a swipe at Charles Lindbergh
Lol i just realised you can reverse the speech at 4:02 and it makes sense
SquashedMan That backwards audio gimmick was brilliant
Do you know what it says?
I just love this movie 😄😆🤣 it's so cute and funny 😄 especially with Groucho and Harpo I own this movie 🎥
FUNNY AS FUCK
You really need to read Groucho's book;" GROUCHO and ME",....written by Groucho/Julius Marx himself,......nonstop HILARIOUS NONSENSE yet very intelligent humor from Vaudeville up into this TV days!.....best book you have ever read!...........
Of coarse you know, this means war!
God is love
How mhch water does harpo drink?
I'm disappointed by the ending of this - they forgot to steal the microphones.
1:24 I’ve always wondered what this line from Groucho meant.
Probably was teasing Chico.
Late response but I think he meant something along the lines of "hurry up, they're ready to hang you". May be wrong, I'm not a native speaker.
The Marx Brothers were handed a script and made changes throughout the filming.
Groucho= I'm gonna go arrange Your Bail. 😂
Irisheddy I think the sketch is about Italo Balbo.
I don't care I like chico
Ahh...but how are you going to arrange it? Front to left or right back?
Was there ever anything so wacky and hilarious?
It's Rubio!!
Build the dam
Was Harpo really mute?
No, just a great gimmick. Google, Harp Marx speaks and there are a few clips of him speaking.
I wonder if Harpo had to pee afterwards.
hahaha probably
He probably has a catheter in one of his many coat-pockets.
You know I was thinking the same thing. : )
That's what Groucho meant when he said you would need to build a dam behind him.
CHRIST is the only way to heaven 🙏.
So Jewish people like the Marx Brothers are not in heaven? You sir are a jackass.
I would suggest you make your speech a little more direct than your brother's, .
Groucho is always so rude to everyone
if they have no gas how can they go back
Have you never heard of gliding ? You thicko !
Sawney Bean 8 years later. Thanks.
No offence intended. 🤣
"Night at the Opera"?
😁
I would suggest you make your speech a little more direct than your brother's :-)
I'm going to go and arrange your bail.
Yes, I am a Marxist 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
of course you realize this means war!
it's not supposed to make sense
You do know he speaking about the Bullshit space mission that never existed
Telling my kids this was Fidel Castro.
Who cares? It's already a big lie!! He's not the brightest bulb you can put in the lamp to begin with!!
Fidel Castro!
