I'm very new to digital art, and although I understand concepts like light, it's choosing the actual colour and making decent shapes that I find the hard part, but these kinds of videos where I can see the colours being chosen are exceptionally helpful
hearing what you're thinking about while painting and the reasoning behind decisions you make is SO HELPFUL and feels like one of the best ways to learn. thank you so much!!!
I am BLOWN away how informative this video is. You have an incredible ability to articulate art theory. I've paid hundreds of dollars to online lessons and tutorials that don't cover half the concepts you covered in this video. Amazing art too by the way, gorgeous piece.
For me being retired and drawing and sketching being just a hobby, digital was so out of my comfort zone when my wife gave me an iPad Pro as a present 18 months ago and was thinking at one stage it was a waste of money, however I have battled on and can now see light at the end of the tunnel using Procreate. I have a need for information to understand what I’m doing and glad say I have found it here so enjoyed your video. JC
An advice that I could give you is to be very accurate in every stage of the painting. Astri pretty much skipped the sketch face because she already kinda knew the structure behind it but if you dont, make sure that every form is logical. In my opinion structure is the most important thing when it comes to drawing. If your drawing doesnt have good structure adding light or rendering is completly pointless.
Can legit watch u draw and hear u talk about ur process all day long ! They are so helpful and full of knowledge I just love it >3 keep making more vids like this it's a real pleasure to watch ❤
It's so awesome to learn about your process, I found myself intrigued with your narration the whole way through. Thanks for putting out this kind of content!!
going through hard times with my carpel tunnel/tendonitis atm and your videos are such great motivation to want to get back and healthy to keep learning. love your work!
Your painting was beautiful and I’ve learned SO MUCH from this video. I need to make notes so I don’t forget these many useful tips you’ve shared, thanks so much for doing so!!

hey Astri! I love this painting so much! you are huge inspiration for me. May i ask what brush did you use at 6:28? i love the brushstrokes it has, cant seem to find anything like it
Hey, I was wondering what do the smart sharpen pass and noise pass do exactly? I tried using the smart sharpen pass but couldn't quite figure out what I might want to use it for, I reckon it balances the painting texture somehow/removes blur? Couldn't find noise pass at all on Photoshop, though. Great video as always!
hey! sharpen makes your edges a bit more defined and well.. sharp. it makes your overall image less blurry! noise filter (filters > add noise) adds some grain to your image. I mostly like noise because it gives the painting a subtle old film look. I do both of these things because I just like the look, it helps the final image look more finished imo:)
hallo Astri.. i've been watching this video and i find that u didn't change the brush opacity or brush flow and you still can do shading smoothly.. do you have your own brush setting?? thx u..
aw man I LOVE watching your art journey! I am in art&design school rn and seeing you learning the same stuff as I do is super amazing. Generally spoken it was you who encouraged me to follow my dreams to become a professional artist later. Also uh we used to chat a bit at the beginning of your carreer, I was your fifth follower Luminaara, remember? xD (and sorry if I every come across as too idolizing these days it's just that you are living my dream for being in a professional environment that lets you focus on art alone haha)
This type of video is literally worth more than gold to me.
I'm glad it's helpful!!
Fact
Damn, this is gorgeous. I have a weak spot for intense light in portraits and the painterly feel that you put in your pieces really made this special.
thank you!!
