Tried this on my 07 Impreza. The noise was still there. I even tried adding a little lube to the motor. The steps in this video are good to try before you go and replace the motor.
To help you guys out, for some models/years like in my case, they don’t sell just the motor or the fan alone. They sell you the assembly which can range from $150-$300. I noticed after going to a few junkyards the only difference in the assemblies was the resistor. Other than the wiring, the mounting place, and of course design, the blower motor looked exactly the same on some of the older years how it did on the 07. Point of the story is I removed the assembly from an 02 WRX and followed the steps in the video to remove the motor. Same part number, length, width and pins as my Impreza. I swapped the 02 motor in and even kept the wheel as it was cleaner than mine was funny enough. BE SURE TO LUBE THE MOTOR ON THE OUTSIDE BEFORE YOU PUT IT IN. Trust me. Also make sure the connector pins are lined up to the opening. I cut off the connector from the WRX to make it easier. That way I don’t put everything back in it’s place and have to make adjustments. Fired it up and the noise was gone. Saved me the extra bucks.
Note: I saw a TYC fan assembly for sale on Amazon that included just the motor and wheel. Looks like it would fit. It’s about $60. If you add the year, make, and model like I did with my car it says part WILL NOT FIT. If it wasn’t for the WRX motor I found, I would of bought it as it looks the same.

Hey i know this reply is late but i have some better advice. after my 2007 wrx blower motor went out i looked to replace it. of course the whole hvac blower assembly with the body is around 150-300 like you said but there also are those $60 blower and fan assemblies however they DO NOT fit without cutting. Alot of cutting too, even thought they state direct fitment for 2003-2007 imprezas. HOWEVER after a ton of research i was finally able to find the direct part number for the motor itself and its even cheaper then the assemblies. part number: 27225-8H31C. can easily find them for under 30 bucks with 2 day shipping :)

Thanks for this vid. I never would've been able to do this on my 07 without it. After cleaning out the unit I actually have strong AC again!!! and right before summer!

Edit: I used new one, part number "PRO 272009H600" for Nissan Qashqai UE version, works great and better than original one in Impreza GD9 Hawkeye.

I replaced mine with that Nissan part blower. Replacement part has constant whirring noise at every speed. Did I just get a broken or shitty quality motor I wonder.
