    Im lucky enough to live in an area of northern mn that is rife with those nice big 4ft wide, 3 ft tall anthills that are in gravel soil. Already pre-waxed by the ants to shed water. Just scoop it up, sift out grass and sticks, and plant that steel. Never lets me down here.

    That’s a lot of nickels to make a dime. ( fur prices suck)

      All depends how profficient you are in your sale abilities. Fur prices arent awesome but certainly still worth going after. With low prices comes low competition, higher catches, and a good skinning machine makes quick work of pickups full of animals every day or two. I still make damn good money for a "hobby".bought and paid for a brand new car, brand new boat, motor, and trailer, and 10acres of land over a few years. If you arent afraid of work and are resourceful you can still make good money. Castors, glands, bait meat, food meat, sell the skulls, sell any damaged pelts for more to home decor folks once its tanned for more than id get for it at auction.

    I'm old school. I just having a hard time putting that much money into having wax dirt. Maybe if I used it once I would think differently. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    What's the word on using ice-melt in the trap bed as an easier solution to freezing?

    You may answer this later in the series, but do you always use waxed dirt or do you start once you hit a certain low temp...great info as all way man!

      backyardmeat once the night time temps get at or below freezing I start using wax dirt. It doesn't take many misses because of frozen traps to pay for a little dirt. thanks for watching

    Great video. How many sets do you usually get out of a gallon of waxed dirt?

  • @loneranger8293

    Just made 30 gallons yesterday and must say worked out great.Using about 1 lb wax/gallon of dry dirt. Takes about 1/2 hour to do 5 gallons. I will make 75 gallons which will last me this season as is typically short due to snow cover in early November. Will than switch to baiting and RAMS. Thanks for the video and great information!

    Thank you for taking the time and effort to make and post this video. I find this information is very helpful as I'm planning to make some waxed dirt for sets but haven't done it before.
    One question: did I understand correctly that you're using #3 traps for coyotes? I'm trying #1.75. I'm not experienced with trapping coyotes: am I doing something stupid using #1.75 for coyotes? Mine are Duke traps.

    You should market those cookie cutters. Make them for all sizes. Sellem at the right price I'd buyem.

    Why can't a fella use play sand? No lumps, dries quick ....

    • @enterthehunter7336
      @enterthehunter7336 6 років тому

      Dave Hendrick the reason I would think so is it will not appear like anything in the area to most animals unless you're trapping on a beach so probably wouldn't be very effective

    • @eduffy4937
      @eduffy4937 Рік тому

      Zero compaction to play sand.

    I know a woman that lost her fingers from doing just what you are doing right here by sticking your hand in a running mixer. She was lucky her fingers twisted off before her arm.
