I figured this was your first listen to Yo La Tengo since this is a pretty accessible place to start. Another Jersey band, and, like The Feelies, they would continue to follow a Velvet Underground muse. I must differ from the protagonist in this song though in that I generally found it pretty easy to hide in a crowded room. I think one of your commentors thought they were getting Brazilian music, lol. Great upload.

I almost saw Yo La Tengo in the 90s. They were doing a gig with Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - who I loved, but hadn't heard Yo La Tengo. When I bought the ticket I had no idea who was on stage first (neither was 'support" act), but as I had to get up at 4.00am for work, I was hoping it would be Gorky's - it was. I left after Gorky's set. So, after hearing Yo La for the first time now, I wished I could have stayed longer and seen them. Really like this.

Meant to investigate this band but never quite did it. Glad to hear it here.
Enjoyed it, moody wistful stuff. Calming.
My back is hurting, overdid some lifting, this was good medicine.

Not as evident in this song but they have Velvet Underground DNA. Drones, speak/sung lyrics, occasional guitar noise freak outs. College radio and record store clerk favorites. Lots of really great songs.

The band is a three piece band they all can sing and play any instrument. IRA and Georgia are married.

Yo la Tengo have a lot of variety in their sound, but always a little off-kilter. I like "Sudden Organ" and "Big Day Coming" of of the album "Painful". Their cover of The Cure's "Friday I'm in Love" is nice, but the video is what really seals the deal! And they cover Daniel Johnston's "Speeding Motorcycle", and then record a live version with Daniel calling in the vocals over a phone with them as backing band! Crazy good!

Oh my… you’ve now discovered one amazing band. They have 17 studio album since 1986’s Ride the Tiger. This one being their 8th…and in most people’s eyes their best. Still going to this day. One amazing and very influential band. Saw them play in 2004…prob the best gig I’ve ever been at..and I’ve been at some
    Good ones.

Yo La Tengo quite often do songs which feature keyboards, usually the organ. Two contrasting examples are ''Let's Save Tony Orlando's House'' (sung by Georgia, and including some mellotron-flute), and the more rockish track "False Alarm'' (organ really distorted!).

My favorite album of theirs is "And then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out". The title alone is a winner.

This album was soooo popular on the university radio from my town. And that airplay lasted around 10 years, maybe. Sometimes I can still listen a song or two. That's the advantage of independent radios. How could this album have the same recognition on other kind of frequencies? It stayed on my memory, but it doesn't mean I enjoy it as much.
But I must say that year was fantastic. Many, many albums and many much important than this one. Yo La Tengo have a kind of cult status over here. That's the way I feel it. And I think the times they visited Portugal to do concerts must mean something.

I was over all impressed with the song. You said you were impressed with the drums. I found myself disappointed with the drums. The drums did not strike me as exceptional. Ordinary. On a day I was hoping for more.

I always thought that this song is about a person that’s an introvert.

Ok… for similar vibe and “personality” try sun kill moon. Carry Me Ohio is a fantastic song. Underrated band and a great track dripping in atmosphere.

Not a bad song. Catchy and has pretty good orchestration, but I do feel like it was a couple minutes too long as it gets a little old hearing the same four chords played on the same instrument with the same percussion groove for 5 minutes.
I did like the overall sound though, and the lyrics were nice. I love that narration style where it is very matter of fact and literal.

Please! React to Brazilian music! People come, it's serious.
One of the most incredible is Novos Baianos with its mix of rock and "frevo", a regional Brazilian style. Two songs to consider: 'Barra Lúcifer' and 'Se Chorar Beba a Lágrima'. Or if you want something with a greater focus on the lyrics, there's 'Como Nosso Pais' or 'Velha Roupa Colorida' by Elis Regina, or more soulful with 'Você' or 'Não Quero Dinheiro (Só Quero Amar)' by Tim Maia.
Our music has a lot of color and there is much more that can add to the channel. Thanks!

Interesting... Never heard of them, nothing particularly new, outstanding, actually put me in mind of Simple Minds, and New Order. Why, I can't put my finger on. But, for all that, I quite liked this. It had a certain lilting 'something' which kept me engaged. I'd happily listen to more of these guys.

PS, if this'd been done by a English band It'd been called 'Autumn Pullover' :)
