    Height Gauge Free Plans: bit.ly/2V2Hn1m

    I have been looking at a couple of designs for a height gauge tonight. This one is so simple and can be made from a few scraps. On top of that it is digital and works with a tool I already own. I also have a few neodymium magnets laying around somewhere. I'll get on to it first thing in the morning. Bloody brilliant, That's what this is.

    Brilliant!! I've been wanting to make a height gauge, many videos on UA-cam but yours is easy to make, they don't have to be complicated to build. Keep the videos coming

    What circular saw do you have and what blade? If I remember correctly it was a Makita 5903r. I am going to buy a saw with the same size blade, but it is really hard to find combination blades for it. Seems like 235mm/9 inch is a very uncommon size.
    Edit:Nevermind. I found out what blade you're using and that it is 190mm in diameter. I though there would be problems when attaching such a small blade.

    • @Paoson_Woodworking
      @Paoson_Woodworking  8 років тому

      In my case this blade works well. Take a look at this: paoson.com/downloads/en/forum/59s/saw-disk-cmt .

      Paoson WoodWorking That's the page I was looking for. Thanks a lot! Now I'm gonna see were you bought that nice 180mm jigsaw blade.

    I'm a little concerned that the calipers will be knocked off, was wondering if there is a way to make a guide for the sides??

    Good idea with the bracket. But it is better, perhaps, to use mechanical attachment (clip), and not a magnet.
    Mechanical fastening is more reliable. It does not allow (accidentally) to shift the measuring instrument.
    In the magnet is only one clear advantage - the speed of mounting the measuring instrument.

      @Paoson_Woodworking  8 років тому

      Yes, you can do with mechanical attach but in my case with strong magnet works well. Thank you!.

      thanks! It called magnet screw or screw pot magnet, take a look at this:

    Thank you for this! However the pot magnet (there isn't a weaker magnet I can buy from my local stores and amazon won't ship to my location) that I have is too strong and it restricts the movement of the caliper rod. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue?

    • @Paoson_Woodworking
      @Paoson_Woodworking  8 років тому

      Well, it must be a very powerful magnet! You may find something similar in an industrial spare parts store

    • @nicknum3489
      @nicknum3489 8 років тому +1

      Thank you for your reply! Did a quick fix of layering masking tape over the magnet and that helped enough! I do have an issue with the magnet stopping the caliper rod from moving up & down when I'm trying to set my tablesaw blade height though. Once again, thank you for this simple and clever idea.

    You attache the gauge to the left side of the disk to adjust the fence? What about the thickness of the blade? The piece you are cutting has the width from the right side of the blade to the fence...

    • @Paoson_Woodworking
      @Paoson_Woodworking  7 років тому

      the thickness of the blade is always the same, 2mm in this case. It is only necessary take off the blade thickness.

  • @abcde-y7w
    @abcde-y7w 8 років тому

    It's great, but a bit inaccurate. The width of the piece will be less by a thickness of a blade

    • @Paoson_Woodworking
      @Paoson_Woodworking  8 років тому

      of course, you must measure the thickness of the blade, usually 3mm, and add it, for example. Thanks for comment!

      I'm sure the digital caliper can be calibrated to zero, using the saw teeth as reference, to avoid this problem. Simple fix.

    Mmh... How can you guarantee that the caliper is 90°? If it's not, the measurement will be wrong.
    Better using small neodymium magnets and two small pieces of wood as guides to the caliper.

      I also noticed the changes of the voice from the first videos... I don't think it's someone else speaking, maybe it's some post-editing effect or a different mic... I don't know the why but even if I prefer his first voice accent for sure the added value on his videos and stuff are great!
