I think the flashback was missing some Kaido. We should have seen how Kaido and Orochi met and formed an alliance. Why did he go to Wano? what was his plan? What's his relationship with Orochi? If we had gotten some of this answers i think some of the chapters would have been better
I think it will be properly placed where it is needed. During the wano war you dont want a constant fight after fight after fight panel. Oda will scatter Kaido backstory all over hia major fights i would think

It was a really good flashback that not only revisited a lot of different locations but also gave us a lot of little hints of was happening in the future.
I feel like the key to the whole “why did Oden trust Orochi” thing is bcs you have to remember: at the time, Oden had no reason to think that Orochi would want to keep his power. Orochi had just finished telling Oden that he didn’t necessarily want to “rule over” Wano as much as he wanted revenge. So it makes sense for Oden to believe that he could take the burden of humiliating himself on behalf of the whole country so Orochi could fulfill his revenge in that way. That’s why Oden was so surprised by Orochi welching on the deal
I'm looking forward to rereading Wano in its entirety once it's complete. I feel like I'm getting Dressrosa syndrome, where I can't properly appreciate it until I get it as a whole. This was an ultra-important flashback, but...somehow it lacked oomph? Like, a lot of details I was hoping for didn't happen. The Toki-Oden romance, explaining why none of the big shots came to back up their boy Oden, the works.
Kaido kinda hinted to that. He said that Oden is someone who is too soft and wanted to do everything on his own instead of asking for help from anyone. He did it twice actually. Once, when he went to defeat Ashura, he fought the whole crew solo, and the scabbards only found him after he won, and bleeding heavily. He did it again when he went to kill Orochi. The last time he attacked, the scabbards were ready, and Oden would have went solo again, if they didn't know. There was also a moment with the Roger pirates when they told Oden that they would help him do anything, but he said he would take care of it. Also, Whitebeard left in anger, after Oden decided to go with Roger and I think they never contacted again after that. Take it as you will, but to me it's the biggest flaw of Oden's character.
As someone who didn't get to Dressroba until around WCI, I agree with this idea. I had a lot of fun with the anime of Dressroba, even though it was long I liked the scale and how many characters we fall to love. I started OP around the time everyone was complaining about Dressrossa, but it was nice to see that was mostly because of the weekly scehdule.
@@stormrage3708 that's exactly how I thought about Oden too. Like was he a badass? Yeah but his biggest flaw was thinking he had to do everything himself. He kind of reminds me of Kiryu from the Yakuza games. Yeah hes strong as all hell but his biggest problem is always his line of thinking that he has to be the one to do things and he doesnt rely on those around him enough. I mean for fucks sake Oden had roger and whitebeard on his side. Not to mention the scabbards. If he would have stopped and thought things through he could have easily taken Wano back and he would still be alive but because of his stubbornness it cost him. Oden was a good character but he had a massive flaw that ended up being a fatal one
What I believe is 'Decisions are always subjective and involve context' and therefore I am with ODA with what course of action he decided for ODEN to take. Lastly, Love your work mate.

11:04 No. Orochi and Kaido claim there's a traitor. I have the same issue with this that what I had with BNHA. In BNHA Horikoshi had a "good guy" *speculating* about the *possibility* of there being a traitor, but at the same time, showed *Tomura needing to physically gain access to UA.* Now Oda, a far better writer than Horikoshi, imo, had the "bad guys" *stating they have a mole* within Oden's household/retainers, but at the same time Oda presented us with *a user of the Mane Mane no Mi.* So, as far as we know, there's nothing but Orochi and Kaido pointing at a potential traitor. It's as easy to conclude there's no traitor as it is to take Orochi and Kaido at their word.
Oden should’ve fought like 2 years into the whole deal. Cause then Kaido would have to deal with Oden AND moriah. And moriah did reduce his forces quite a bit. That would’ve been the ideal time to strike aside from the very beginning.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding is that orochi released 100 prisoners for every dance so I assumed that he was checking on those 100 people after every dance
i actually think the flashback wasn't long enough. Especially in the second half when he is in Wano. Oda tried to include a lot of information in the chapters, but because he thought people were getting impatient tried to fit some complex story lines in 2-3 panels. I wish people stopped complaining about the length of flashbacks or arcs. One Piece is a story, Oda's story, and the world building is what makes it so special. Personally Oda could write a 100 chapters about the life on Conomi Island, I would be happy.
It is halfway through march and Luffy was the only Strawhat to make an appearance in the Manga in 2020 and that was 1 1/2 frames in the most recent chapter. That's kinda crazy.
Will M Chopper was in on panel in the recent chapter (in the middle of the shot with the samurais when they were brought up) so there is that, but still it's crazy that it took them so long to appear. (Oh and Franky was present in the flasback, but I'm not sure if that chapter was after 2020 or not.)
Just realized both Toki and Oden were sentenced to at first to really "burn" (Oden in Oil and Toki in House fire) but in the end died by being shot instead...
I LOVED the parts where Oden or Wano were not the main focus (the travels with Whitebeard and Roger) but Oden just didn't do it for me. I think most of the important Wano stuff in the flashback could've been addressed quickly in the present. I would've liked for Oden to stay as a legendary figure, kinda like Ryuma.
Hi Tekking. I like your videos. Helped get me back into collecting some of my favorite mangas from childhood. Although it is hard to take anyone from Pennsylvania seriously as a native Buckeye. Who dey!
phe25 it didn't mean much for Orochi but it did mean something for Oden. Oden probably felt bad hearing what Orochi went through so he felt that he had to to something for the Kurozoumi
Le roi des pirates Zoro The thing is if orochi would have stated his name in the beginning to the kozuki even to oden it would have meant nothing oden would have treated orochi as an equal like all his other scabbards if orochi actions were genuine and he wasn’t such a scum bag orochi could have actually become a Daimiyo again. Lord Yasuei would have provided aid to orochi. As well. Whatever fate orochi is going to get will not be because of his name but due to his actions.
phe25 You're right and the dance was mainly for the hostages BUT Oden did still feel bad for Orochi, keep in mind that Oden is fully compassionate and slightly naive so this dance was (mainly) for the hostages and a tiny bit for Orochi
Unpopular opinion but I wasn't a huge fan of the flashback. But I was also super eager to get to the battle and I really want to see the straw hats all together again. And I also wasn't waiting for a long time like other people for the Wano arc in general. It's not a bad flashback but I just wanted to move on to other things. Maybe I'll go back and re read the flashback all in one go and I might view it in a better light but right now, I've been ready to move on for a while.
@@mightyso9281 there is a time and place for dragonball too, just some badass beating and ngl i love db but op is completely different and its not a secret that oda likes to do excessive stroy telling and thatswhy the op is one of the best, if not the best, world in manga history imo

Keep up the good work 👍
Tekking, I think when Oden talked about traveling around Wano to check if everything was find he was talking about the industrialization and pollutions. Remember when that was a thing in Wano.
I read this flashback arc without having to wait for new chapters to come out so it didn't feel that long to me. So I was able to get hooked onto Oden pretty fast. and just made me even more invested in Wano

lol at people that still think reverie was an arc, it was obviously meant to be as an "intermission act 0" of sorts, like the intermission before the play begins
Gene P that’s irrelevant, it was hyped for so long by Oda & his editors as this huge thing with tons of info revelations & mysteries but we barely got that cuz it was only 6 chapters. Oda didn’t deliver on Reverie which his more intelligent fans wanted more than Wano which basically comes to big strong guy gets beat by Luffy which is awesome but, Reverie was supposed to be something different than what we’re used to in OP & shonen in general.
SuperGiantRobot Rocket I think that complaint itself is irrelevant, I’m one of those intelligent fans that loves the story, but I wasn’t expecting a full on arc for reverie , it has no rise , climax , or conclusion and doesn’t feature any strawhat. It’s not an arc in any traditional sense whatsoever , doesn’t matter what fans thought the hype was about
Gene P my issue with the Reverie arc saga whatever you wanna call it, was that it’s too short & didn’t give us more things about the Reverie meeting, some insight into the gorosei & void century not a lot but enough to whet our appetite & learning things about the revolutionary army & seeing them in action. We didn’t even get to see the meetings where important info should’ve been discussed & big things hinted at etc it was disappointing is what I’m saying & there’s plenty of others who feel that way.
Yo tekking, just a heads up, deadlifts are a full body movement and work your legs out hard.

Matt, there is one thing you are missing - the main goal of the deal between Orochi and Oden was that nothing changed for too much worse in the country in general, not the end of tributes/slaves. General "health" of a country is much easier to confirm.
Having just read and being able to read the whole flashback non-stop, I think it was a really good and enjoyable flashback and it didn't even fell that long. I'd put it at a high eight or a low nine out of ten.
This was a 9/10 flashback for me. 1 point off for skipping some of the things I would have been interested in seeing thoroughly but other than the skips, this was by far my favorite flashback. Oden has became my favorite character next to Katakuri.
pretty sure Oden didnt rally all of Curry right after doing the first dance for a couple reasons. 1, he didnt want the people to die. 2, didnt want the people to die for him. 3, he had been gone for a long time and didnt feel like it was right for him to ask that of his people, who since he had been gone are no longer really 'his' people. since he was gone and probably felt like he abandoned his people in their most desperate time, he felt that he shouldnt ask his people that, they shouldnt know what he was doing for them because he didnt deserve their respect for the time being, and he felt as though he should be a martyr for a while until he repaid his debt to the people
I liked it in general, it had some amazing moments and moments that are really important for the future to the series. Though I would had liked to see Oden interact with the scabbards a bit more in the beginning stages of their relationship. 8/10 overall. Edit: Regarding Oden dancing, I feel like 5 years was a bit too much, Imo something like 1 year would had worked better.
Loved this oden flashback any retro pirate era content is so legendary haha, only thing is I think how odens dance and scenes between oden - Kaido, orochi was portrayed, they felt either rushed or could’ve been better
I look forward to seeing your reaction to the new chapter. I won't mention specifics, but I'm sure you and I are glad we got proper confirmation that Carrot is not the traitor. But yes, I thought the flashback was great, If I weren't so lazy I would consider doing a discussion video and starting my own channel. Where would I rank the flachback on a scale of Foxy to Roger? I have to give it an Oden.
I wasn't a fan of this flashback to be honest. The first bit was off because Oden was Oden, just because. We didn't really get anything that explained his behaviour or the reason behind his strength. I couldn't really connect emotionally to him there. In the middle of the flashback, when he as out at sea, he felt like a side-character in his own flashback, making it not exactly easy to form a bond here again. The introduction of Toki was good and I was really eager to learn of her past, but we didn't get anything of that. Instead we got illustrations of what we knew already, which was nice, but does it deserve taking the space of 1.5 volumes? In the end we got only very little details that still matter in present time. When we got back to Wano, he alienated not only the country but the reader as well with his strange behaviour. It was only post mortem when he was shown having quality time with his family that I could bond a bit with him. Most of the other One Piece flashbacks did a better job at connecting me emotionally to the subject of the flashback for me.
I super feel this. It felt like the middle of the arc, oden at sea, was just because we needed someone there that wasn't roger or rayleigh. We never got a glimpse to why oden is strong. Then he doesnt even get a full true fight like we wanted to justify the length of the flashback. I'd give it a 6/10 quality flashback. 8/10 things happened flashback, cuz other than my complaints, I had a good time with everyone else and the reveal of the traitor has me recombining everything involving the mystery. It's a trip
On a scale of Foxy to Roger, I would give it a solid Shanks

Hey Tekking, random theory to think about:
What if Frankie's parents weren't pirates, but someone the Gov still wanted......... like Vegapunk?
honestly thought the same things multiple times tbh especially sold it to me when franky "stumbles across" an old lab of Vegapunks.
@Macdonalds Mascot i have a feeling by the end of wano we'll know a bit more about vegapunk since orochi is interested in him. hopefully his face and age too
@Macdonalds Mascot i swear to god you reading my mind dude that actual sounds plausible tbh i also have a feeling that orochi's fruit mightve been studied by vegapunk during the dragon reserch?

I loved the flashback. I absolutely loved seeing Roger going through his journey and meeting characters we’ve seen before. Tom, Franky, Gan Fall, Neptune, Sharly, and a ton more. We also got to see Izo, Gaban, Rayleigh, Whitebeard, Shanks, and Buggy. It was great.
I think the flashback was missing some Kaido. We should have seen how Kaido and Orochi met and formed an alliance. Why did he go to Wano? what was his plan? What's his relationship with Orochi? If we had gotten some of this answers i think some of the chapters would have been better
I'm sure that will come eventually.
@@meridithg.42
I hooe but i think this flashback was the perfect place to include it. Now if we get we'll have to cut from the present action again
We might get it mid war
I think it will be properly placed where it is needed. During the wano war you dont want a constant fight after fight after fight panel. Oda will scatter Kaido backstory all over hia major fights i would think
Did anyone notice that tekking was so excited for the new onepiece chapter and was trying his best to keep his mind off it or keep his cool but I wasn't working at all throughout the video 😅😅
People saying they felt it was dragged out.
I wished it could be longer, some stuff felt a bit forced.
The scabbards and Toki especially, for such important characters they were quickly glossed over. The Roger and Whitebeard stuff felt well paced though
@@Mal-go5dl Exactly. For instance, the traitor reveal in the latest chapter felt out of place and without emotional relevance because we weren't as connected to it.
@kwstas kwsta speak for yourself, most people loved it.
@@RntLnr The reveal is actually perfect. Right time, right place and felt like kabuki theater. It's suppose to confuse you. Having no impact left everyone shocked and confused which was the entire point
@@Anon-qp3kt Uhm, interesting perspective. I'm not familiar with kabuki theatre so I couldn't know. Thank you for explaining it!!!!!
Thanks for the confirmation; I'm looking forward to seeing the regular characters
What I believe is 'Decisions are always subjective and involve context' and therefore I am with ODA with what course of action he decided for ODEN to take.
Lastly, Love your work mate.
a solid "help me luffy" out of "I want to live"
Then nothing happened is 11?
Then what about “I love you” by Corazon, 12?
Calling it. In chapter 1000 something ground breaking will happen on par with Roger kicking off the Great Pirate Era, "The One Piece is real!", or the end of the time skip.
I’m betting it will be either defeating the Yonko, someone important like shanks is dead or a huge story revelation
For some reason I'm thinking it has to do with the Revolutionary army.
@Kahaee death of Kaido would be great

Nice to see you're on Deathly Hallows!
11:04 No. Orochi and Kaido claim there's a traitor.
I have the same issue with this that what I had with BNHA. In BNHA Horikoshi had a "good guy" *speculating* about the *possibility* of there being a traitor, but at the same time, showed *Tomura needing to physically gain access to UA.*
Now Oda, a far better writer than Horikoshi, imo, had the "bad guys" *stating they have a mole* within Oden's household/retainers, but at the same time Oda presented us with *a user of the Mane Mane no Mi.*
So, as far as we know, there's nothing but Orochi and Kaido pointing at a potential traitor. It's as easy to conclude there's no traitor as it is to take Orochi and Kaido at their word.
Yo xD you are gonna be suprised when u read 974 then😂😂😂🤦🏾♂️

Oden should’ve fought like 2 years into the whole deal. Cause then Kaido would have to deal with Oden AND moriah. And moriah did reduce his forces quite a bit. That would’ve been the ideal time to strike aside from the very beginning.
Not when he actually believed Orochi
Love this flashback but Noland and calgara will always be my favorite
Same.
Since we've seen the previous users of Bartolomeo and Mr 2's devil fruit, I really wanna see the previous user of Luffy's fruit
I like that Tekking kept his original Orochi voice even after hearing the voice from the anime.
Tekking i love your lord Orochi's voice ! It is so good ^_^
I sit down to eat and tekking uploads a video. Life is simple.
Realistically, is there any point in oden wearing shin pads if he doesn’t even know how to play badminton?
Just realizing this may turn out to be a story of hundred stories
Oh God I love this story
So nobody's gonna talk about the new Wano edition logo in the bottom right corner?

we got Oden, Whitebeard, Rodger, Orochi, Kaido and Rocks background infos

Excited for your next episode. Big big stuff to talk about...
Who dey!
I just love how you say - Kee-ney-mon and Mr 2-Bawn Clay
Oda before the flashback: I’ll make a quick flashback arc to explain some parts about Odin?
Oda every five seconds: what if I added this in though?
Didn't Oden dance to a tone for Wano's sins against Kurozumi clan.
That ain’t going to cut it for orochi. Orochi never intended to keep the deal . He only saw amusement seeing Oden dance.
phe25 it didn't mean much for Orochi but it did mean something for Oden.
Oden probably felt bad hearing what Orochi went through so he felt that he had to to something for the Kurozoumi
Le roi des pirates Zoro
The thing is if orochi would have stated his name in the beginning to the kozuki even to oden it would have meant nothing oden would have treated orochi as an equal like all his other scabbards if orochi actions were genuine and he wasn’t such a scum bag orochi could have actually become a Daimiyo again. Lord Yasuei would have provided aid to orochi. As well. Whatever fate orochi is going to get will not be because of his name but due to his actions.
phe25
You're right and the dance was mainly for the hostages BUT Oden did still feel bad for Orochi, keep in mind that Oden is fully compassionate and slightly naive so this dance was (mainly) for the hostages and a tiny bit for Orochi
Aside from Kanjuro and Orochi are there even more Kurozumi?

Unpopular opinion but I wasn't a huge fan of the flashback. But I was also super eager to get to the battle and I really want to see the straw hats all together again. And I also wasn't waiting for a long time like other people for the Wano arc in general. It's not a bad flashback but I just wanted to move on to other things. Maybe I'll go back and re read the flashback all in one go and I might view it in a better light but right now, I've been ready to move on for a while.

Btw, I rly respect your dedication to wait an extra few days for Viz / mangaplus translation out before discussing about new chapter. Keep up the good work 👍
Tekking, I think when Oden talked about traveling around Wano to check if everything was find he was talking about the industrialization and pollutions. Remember when that was a thing in Wano.
its crazy that the devil fruits that helped orochi become shogun are now wielded by alies of luffy
I read this flashback arc without having to wait for new chapters to come out so it didn't feel that long to me. So I was able to get hooked onto Oden pretty fast. and just made me even more invested in Wano
One thing will be sure about Wano:
We ain't leaving until Zoro goes full power.
He’s gonna open his eye
when he said inbetween foxy and roger i was waiting for him to say "a oden" or "a whitebeard"
Tekking even tho anime and some what manga is dead to me. You make if fun to get a general idea of what’s going on in the series you talk about and the ones I used to love. Your personality is a big factor. Mad love brother and keep up the grind.
It lasted longer than reverie! 😭😭😭
lol at people that still think reverie was an arc, it was obviously meant to be as an "intermission act 0" of sorts, like the intermission before the play begins
@@genep9302 Reverie was like the chapters between Thriller Bark and Sabaody, buffer chapters to expand the world
Gene P that’s irrelevant, it was hyped for so long by Oda & his editors as this huge thing with tons of info revelations & mysteries but we barely got that cuz it was only 6 chapters.
*staring at Barry till Tekking senpai notices me*
I refuse to let One Piece end before we get an Elbaf arc
Omg tekking i read escape from camp 14 when i was younger and could never remember the title. Thank you so much for reminding me of this book
This was a 9/10 flashback for me. 1 point off for skipping some of the things I would have been interested in seeing thoroughly but other than the skips, this was by far my favorite flashback. Oden has became my favorite character next to Katakuri.
I can't wait till the chapter review
What I loved about Oden was how reckless and free he lived ...am sure he enjoyed it
pretty sure Oden didnt rally all of Curry right after doing the first dance for a couple reasons. 1, he didnt want the people to die. 2, didnt want the people to die for him. 3, he had been gone for a long time and didnt feel like it was right for him to ask that of his people, who since he had been gone are no longer really 'his' people. since he was gone and probably felt like he abandoned his people in their most desperate time, he felt that he shouldnt ask his people that, they shouldnt know what he was doing for them because he didnt deserve their respect for the time being, and he felt as though he should be a martyr for a while until he repaid his debt to the people
I was hoping oden was gonna survive even though I already knew he was dead
Flashback background went from black to grey.
For future reference, that confirms the end of a flashback in almost every manga I have read.
Orochi is lawful evil, he didn't have the balls to act out until everything lined up perfectly
Loved this oden flashback any retro pirate era content is so legendary haha, only thing is I think how odens dance and scenes between oden - Kaido, orochi was portrayed, they felt either rushed or could’ve been better
I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO REVIEW THE NEXT CHAPTER.
I have to give it an Oden.
i would be pissed to having to hear "THAT'S THE SMITH FAMILEH!!" Everytime i leave home
I feel like oda did it that way because he was like oh crap I forgot I have to write his death somehow
It was a long ,necessary, and interesting it raises questions less questions than it answers
It's a trip
I think the next flashback we get will be short and it might be about Kaido while on the rocks pirates.
