1700miles in a Tiny Speedboat - Part 10 - Bristol Channel

- It's a very long way to go in a very small boat. With our camping gear, petrol tanks and meat-based snacks we again head out to sea.
We're circumnavigating the UK and have covered over 1000 miles so far on our wiggly route. In this episode we cross the Bristol channel and journey into Wales to see the birthplace of the rigid hull inflatable boat, Atlantic College, a school based in the 12th century St Donat's castle.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanti...
We meet Robin Jenkins and learn about the invention of the rib and their latest lifesaving project, Atlantic Pacific, you can support the good work that they do here:
www.atlanticpacific.org.uk/shop/
From the Vale of Glamorgan we travel west to Porthcawl, Tenby and finally into the safety of Milford Haven.
Our boat, 'Goodwin', is an Avon Searider from 1977 and only four meters long, you can see the restoration process here:

I have to say, that discovering this channel during lockdown was a real boon. There is an eclectic mix of eccentric English adventure, quaint nostalgia at the pace and view of the United Kingdom, outstanding music and a heady mix of wonderful people.
Heck, I may as well admit it, I wish I’d thought of this trip and since I didn’t I just am envious (but secretly glad) at each new episode.
When banal videos of unboxing new technology (not when you did it, Harry) or car drag racing can get hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of views, how this isn’t in the tens of millions of hits, I don’t know.
This, people, is just what life should emphasise.
Simply outstanding and compulsory viewing, in my humble opinion. All power to you, Harry.
I couldn’t agree with you more. Doing something like this would be an absolute dream, very inspiring stuff!
Yep.. as above.
Love how these videos just pop up every now and then, during the year, it just feels like its just mine. My secret. I absolutely love watching this. Keep up the great work mate.
Mr. Brumsgrub,
For a different view of an adventure look up the channel Itchyboots. She is riding around the world on a motorcycle by herself. Good views. Tony
@@tonyhouk9047 ah nice one. I'll take a look
@brumsgrub so relatable! Every video is like a holiday…
The back story on these rescue boats, I never knew, that design changed everything, an evolutionary leap.
25 years ago 3 of us built a RIB called Inflated Ego. We only got as far as the Isle of Wight from Dover but these videos have brought back many happy memories. Great videos and what a fantastic adventure.
What a great name, It reminded me of my speedboat named ‘Just add water ‘
thats a sick ass name!!!
He needed to warm up to being on camera, but then he was a brilliant companion. Such an awesome person - thanks for taking him along :) He also really seemed to have enjoyed himself on the trip.
Hehe that honking massive quantum radar on such a small boat makes be chuckle. It’s bigger than the sodding outboard! Good luck and your travels and please keep the content coming, its awesome!
Thanks Harry: another marvellous waypoint on your epic odyssey.
Kit was a great 'guest' too.
I don't know if I'm alone, but I can't escape the sense that this whole, mad, wonderful, project is an extended elegy for a land that is fast disappearing from under our feet. Every scene seems infused with the ache of nostalgia for a time when things were just.....better.
Or maybe it's me getting old!
No you´re right - the pains of the last few years with global warming, then climate change, brexit, then convid and now climate crisis which are nothing more than an attrition of our civil liberties in the never ending march to authoritarianism; what the hell is there to look forward to in the future???
@@Farlig69 Haha! You've listed all the things I dare not name!
We just have to batten down the hatches and ride out the storm, I think.
Thank God for small islands of sanity, such as Harry's voyage.
I think, unwittingly or not, he's trying to rekindle the soul of this benighted nation.
And remember: if you ever take a boat trip around the Isle of Wight, be sure to avoid The Needles!😎🍻🤝
@@gedofgont1006 Someone needs to mention it. We need to rise against this utter nonsense that's being rammed down our throats - here's an excellent video by another well respected "Around Britainer" :)

@@Farlig69 Heaven
Yep. Couldn’t agree more. Very British, in the old school sense.
Absolutely wonderful Harry! The music seems to get better and better with each episode. Lush coastline as well
The music really does add another dimension to this wonderful project.
This is a better advert for Britain than any tourist board advert, beautiful!
Fun fact (for me) - I took my first unaided steps on Tenby beach around mid-afternoon on July 21st 1969 while my parents were listening to a report on the radio of someone else taking some historic steps some 240,000 miles away
Another excellent adventure, and educational too.
Yes, yes, yes, yes YEEEEEESSSSSSSS, kids need to go my Mothers, need to get the Missus friends to take her to the pub and I’m all sorted to watch this uninterrupted 👍🏻
He's BACK! - That opening music always brings an excited smile to my face!
Harry that was my favorite episode to date. The cliffs, the seabirds and of course the surprise reveal of the Granddad of all RIBs. Keep them coming and delighted you go some more kit for Goodwin.
My favourite indulgence by a royal mile. Safe journeys you intrepid adventurers Regards Stuart Bell
This is my favorite documentary, thanks for the incredible content
Best thing on the internet.
Oh FANTASTIC another episode thanks in advance. Like smashed before watching it.
Same!!!!
This video came up on my recommendations so I thought I'd give it a go. Watched the first 5 minutes and asked my wife if she'd like to start at the beginning ... things to do but we thought we'd give it a go over breakfast. It's now 16.44 on the same day and we've watched the whole series 😳🤪😊. Harry, we've sailed for over 40 years and have our own memories ... this series has had us in awe of your achievements, resolve and humour. Subscribed and can't wait for the rest of the series. 👍👍👍
I grew up in Milford Haven and the pembrokeshire coast is one of the most beautful parts of the world. Hope you enjoy/enjoyed the rest of the way up the coast. I do feel a little sorry for Chris having to drive to get you each time :)
Yes, also the Landrover has taken a turn for the worse... :(
@@harrydwyer it wouldn't be a Landover if it didn't. Disco 2 owner here.
GREAT series. Kit is right as a fellow hunter and fisherman there's nothing better than getting your own food. When you hunt and fish you control 100 percent of the process and the quality. You ate the best meat there is when Kit fried up that backstrap.
Nothing better than collecting your own fish and game. Super sustainable and super tasty.
this is one of my favorite series on UA-cam. been watching since UA-cam recommended the mining foam video.
Same here
And me! Loved it through lockdown!
I really enjoyed this episode. In 2019 I did your tour (in the other direction) with a sailing boat. Was in Dale too. Carry on Harry & friends Best regards Bernd from Germany
At last, think it’s an extra long lunch break at work today. Thanks Harry
The fascinating information, the utter UTTER madness and all in between.......
Surely the best string of videos on the internet at this time!
How this isn’t on prime time telly? This is by far the best on going series on UA-cam at the moment! Very excellent work!
Just found this series a week ago and have been binge watching everything and now watching it again. Awesome work!! I love it. Cheers from Melbourne.
Always a great watch.
So quintissentialy English - crossing the Bristol Channel in a rubber boat whilst scoffing pork pies and strawberries.
Thank you!
It’s so absolutely WONDERFUL to see you again Harry 🥰🎉❤️ I’ve been patiently waiting all summer for this video !! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with Goodwin around Blighty. Yippee 🥳
I cannot believe how beautiful the UK’s coastline is😮😮😮
Just the tonic I was desperately in need of, absolutely glorious.
Travel restrictions being what they are now a days, I feel like I'm vicariousley vacationing while watching these videos. Thanks Harry :)
Love the radar. I have a 24' Pursuit that I always thought was too small to have a radar setup. I don't think that anymore. Fantastic journey, cannot wait for the next episode.
Always have radar you'll never leave home with out it. I have a 23ft mako and I got radar and it's the best money I've ever spent
This is a delightful episode, thank you. What I particularly admire is that there's no sense of competitiveness about the journey or pushing one leg within x days of the previous one. Kit, as a venison eater I fully echo your comments about wild venison.
I've never watched anything before that wasn't Easy Rider, but felt the same, and championed the same ideals. 👏
Harry I love this series so much, the filming and editing and presenting is all so great, just good wholesome fun.
Thanks David, just been watching your exercise ball pizza oven, I want one!
@@harrydwyer hahaha my worst video maybe but people keep watching it 🤷🏻♂️ I also think I need to do a follow up review as I’m not super happy with it.
That was such a pleasant viewing, in every way. It's made me all homesick down here in Oz. Your videos always seem to just pop up when I need some Brit time. Many thanks.
Came across this series just this week and binge watching each episode with glee. This one was really special as my wife's parents lived in Marcross just along from Atlantic College. They had their 50th wedding anniversary "do" at St Donuts. I look forward to the Scottish coastline.
Thank you Harry, the story of the college and the castle was fantastic. I really hope to do a similar journey taking some inspiration from yours with my friends. I’m amazed you can get such great footage amidst the spray and the chaos. Incredible stuff
I know you know this, but you're so good at this stuff Harry. Likeable. Authentic. Better than loads of stuff on the actual telly. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. God's speed. :)
Beautiful. Great guest, the production, and the music, with a bit of sadness because it is already the end of the episode
Another sparkling segment of your journey, not only fun and entertaining but educational too! I had no idea about the history of the rib boats, what a wonderful adventure you are having a bit at a time! I hope one day when you have done the whole trip you can bring it out on DVD ? certainly worthy of it!!! Thank you to Kit for joining in the spirit of the trip, a great partner for this section of the run.
KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE WE ARE ROOTING FOR YOU
Who knew mud island had such a diverse coastline - the Isles of Scilly were especially astonishing!
Really enjoying this record of your adventure.
Can't tell you how much I enjoy your videos mate! You really go the extra mile with the music, graphics and production, so so good!
Ha, I laugh in the face of dry suits !!! ......... What a fabulous and interesting film. Roll on the next one. 😊😊
Great to see another episode.
Chris driving the Land Rover Discovery is the unsung hero of this project.
Ahhh.. there's a bit of bad news about the Landrover.
@@harrydwyer More than just the radio then! i couldn't drive for miles without a radio! what a trooper Chris is.
@@harrydwyer My dad had a discovery and it just exploded one day. Now he drives Japanese cars exclusively.
This one has been my fave. Two really nice guys.
A trip like this on a Boat like that is such a stupid idea! Loving it lol
Another blinder of an episode 👍
Did think that pair of trousers was a gonna before you reached around though
That was another fantastic vid guys thank you, such a journey with lots of wonderful scenery, not to mention what an honour it was to learn/visit that castle where all the history of RIB’s began.
Looking forward to your next chapter with baited breath 😎😍👍🇬🇧🌍
Episode #10 was truly a pleasure!
Thank you for every second.. so much to see a-sea along the wild Welsh coast. 🕊
I'm loving following your adventures. Can't wait for the next instalment.
Niesamowite wyzwanie. Spontaniczne. Dobre przygotowanie. Czekamy na kolejny etap. Powodzenia, pozdrowienia z Polski. 👏🇵🇱
Great to see Worms Head, spent many teenage years surfing Llangennith Beach and fishing out of Bury Port
I enjoyed this video same as always. Tell Kit anchor away is said as the anchor leaves the bottom and is swinging free during retrieval.🙂
Anchor 'aweigh', ye scurvy knave!😄🤝🍻
Harry has a solid sense of humour
Epic on every level - great fun and really interesting!
Very informative stop at the castle. I wish you could have stayed another night and brought us more.
Great episode. The woman in Porthcawl marina is a dragon!
And a Welsh one at that!
Once upon a time, you would have found this quality of content on channel 4 or BBC2. Well done Harry for making something that is sadly missing now from UK TV
man I wish i had a Chris in my life! what a great man
That footage around Lynmouth is just amazing. The whole project is pretty awsome too. Lots to see and learn along the way.
Fantastic episode. I was absolutely beaming when I saw this appear just before my lunch break. Watched on TV as I knew footage would be amazing. Best wishes on your future travels.
I been there,a mates band gigged there,stayed over,mayhem…ROSEBUD !
Yes!!! You and Goodwin are back!! 👍👍
Sweet that Goodwin got an AIS, please give a heads up here when you are out so we can follow in real-time at Marine Traffic and similar.
That’s the best equipped rowing boat I’ve ever seen! 😁
Great series - and what a great place. UWC have some of the best facilities around the world. And what a story about the RIB … who knew 👍
It’s always such a treat when you upload 🤗
hi guys, I fell in love with this video, this music. How good it is to take and walk on the water like this, thank you.
This was a great episode...
and I'll pray to the fish gods
as prescribed by the lobsterman to help with his catch.
Thanks Blokes.
So great to see you get another leg in the journey. I enjoy your videos more than anything else I've ever watched on here, they are by far my favourite. That was such a beautiful stretch of coast, thanks for taking us all along for the ride.
One of the best UA-cam channels. It's just a matter of time before you hit 1 million subscribers. I bet it happens fast too.
Brilliant as usual. Thank you Harry and Kit too. Looking forward to the next leg to Scotland. Regards from Madrid.
Ohhhhhh I feel like a kid at Xmas … new episode 😎😎😎😎😎😍😍😍😍😍
Kit seems great company! Enjoyed this episode very much!
The hunting conversation is so interesting to me as I'm surrounded by thousands of hunters in my state and country. Beer brands change their packaging to camo during this time of year for hunting season. lol
Thank you Harry! You found a great companion in Kit for this leg. Wonderful and easy give and take with so much to see. Just the best to watch. Thank you for adding joy to my day!
Harry you don't fail to impress on every video , brilliant thanks
damn been waiting for this for ages ... right off too watch it .. and over an hour too .. amazing
What a lovely little island of the french coast...!
What a wonderful episode. Professional, funny, interesting, and captures the beauty of the coast.
What wholesome UA-cam content. Past my hometown and some lovely shots of the coastline. Just fascinating viewing. Congrats
Oh praise be! Another episode. Such a wonderful series.
Another great vid, lobster fisherman was one sound guy 👍
I was so pleased to get this notification while at work today and couldn't wait to get home to watch it on the telly! Thanks Harry wonderful stuff. 👍
I see 1 hr 04 I click play. Thank you 😁👊🏽
And now the wait for the next episode begins...
Brilliant - I’m looking forward to when Harry goes past Thurso!
It took a while but a new episode of that spledid yourney you make is inspiring to come to the UK when the Covid is allowing it. Thanx for a nice video.
That lifeboat captain 😂😂 “in that” with the Welsh accent
What a way to end Thursday!! Thanks Harry!
Love that raymarine just sent you that massive radar for goodwin xD
What a great film and adventure, thanks for sharing!
Oh yes, thats my night sorted with a few beers!!!
Thanks Harry for another fantastic journey. Very cool to take Goodwin to the home of the RHIB!. Also at 58:04 there is an epic and clearly defined mans face on a pillar of rock!
This is great Harry, every episode better than the last.
Wonderful instalment Harry, Kit seems like good company. The Atlantic college sounds like the place I would go to if I could have another go at school.
And that fisherman should make a UA-cam, would listen to him talk about lobster all day.
Thank you very much for taking us along Harry!
Thanks for the rib history for my Avon!
Wonderful - Thanks Harry for a fantastic hour which I've been waiting what seems like ages to see. Can't wait until the next episode... but I guess I'll have to!
