Great story and Cast! Ida Lupino really shined! Evil for the Directors Guild not to have given any nomination or at least recognition to Ida as a Great Female Director!

2 stars should be enough recognition. 1 was for TV likely based on all the shows she directed.

Beautifully dreamlike noir. .. These old films are so soothing in their intimacy - very unlike to the mostly grading smarmy and snarky cynical films of today. .. (What a fantasy all cozy living on that small house-barge serenaded by the braking waves!)
... Note ... Thomas Mitchell, who plays Tiny, was truly an outstanding actor, and also the very first actor to ever win an Oscar, a Golden Globe and an Emmy.

Great to see Jean Gabin. He starred in one of the greatest films:" La Grand Illusion"
But for me, Ida Lupino was the most beautiful star in Hollywood. And she could write, produce and direct. What a talent!

Ida Lupino came from a show business family so her talent was in the blood and in the environment she grew up in. She was however very gifted in all aspects of the business. She was quite beautiful in a unique way.

What a fine movie that just happened to pop up in my feed. I've always admired and respected Ida Lupino for her creative drive and skills, but I never really appreciated what a ravishing, heart-aching beauty she was! Surrounded by hard cases, all trying to self-medicate to dis-association with alcohol - she was like a beautiful, colorful daisy growing up through a crack in the concrete. Thanks so much for uploading this gem 💖 🇨🇦

What a fantastic, capture, a time freeze, a glimpse into an era of time slip, where the movie flickers so many emotions, where smiles flash, where hearts are drawn, downed, dined on and desired.
This leaves plenty to the imagination as it stokes the fire so well, so deep and so pleasureable.
Well done and Congratulations to all, especially Ida Lupino, Jean Gabin and Claude Rains along with the powerhouse of Thomas Mitchell.
I personally would love to escort Ida Lupino home, bless her ravishing beauty but I would also relish the blessed company of Claude Rains, who I have the ultimate respect for, nearly always playing second fiddle to Gregory Peck, Jimmy Stewart or James Cagney (Wow, all the GREATS!!!), but so excelling in all he did so well and majestically.
Claude Rains is a must have in every great movie as his character portrayals are poetic, eloquent, mesmerising as is Lida's beauty but captivating all of it's own magnetic charm and panache.
Thank you so much for sharing, you made a poet's day, cheers!!!

Nice aquatic scenes for studio shots ! The waves splashing against the breakwater are very convincing ! I had to look up the history - After Pearl Harbor the whole west coast became a security zone so the water shots became a studio job - Charles G. Clarke was nominated for the academy award for best cinematography, Black-and-White for them - And everything else is nice about this film, too ! TNX 4 Posting !

Great film! Jean Gabin and Ida Lupino, who were never less than magnificent in all of their roles, here make one of the best on-screen pairings I've ever seen. Their scenes together are absolute magic! Claude Rains, who scared the life out of me in Phantom of the Opera when I was a kid, has never given a bad performance and here in Moontide he could not have been better as the warm, wise, poetic Nutsy. Interesting to see Ralph Byrd, the original Dick Tracy, in the small role of Reverend Price and that Hollywood stalwart Jerome Cowan (with well over 100 films to his credit) as the very likeable Dr. Brothers; great scene between him and Gabin (Bobo) where he asks for advice about love from Bobo. And last but not least the wonderful creepy performance by Thomas Mitchell, star of Broadway and Hollywood, writer, director and screenwriter, and the first actor to have won an Oscar, an Emmy and a Tony award. A fabulous cast in a fabulous film and, of course, Gabin and Lupino! Who could ask for anything more?

Well said Mike, there is a quality to the imagination, the art and the essence of a great movie which did not adhere to shock, boom, smack or flash in those days of the silver screen and hey does it show.
I feel sad for many youngsters who will not understand these great achievements as there is no captivating blast, thunderous stereo-sound or exctatic orgasm bellowing forth somewhere.
The climax and the orgasm in these movies is all induced upon the imagination, the mind and the heart in the privacy of one's own temptation and thrill parameter, not in widescreen for all to share.

Hi @@stuartlawsonbeattie6200 One of the things I really enjoy about youtube is reading the comments for movies or songs from people who really love them. So many of these movies mean or have meant a lot to different people, and it is a joy to share their love. I first became aware of Ida Lupino from the tv show Mr. Adams & Eve, which she starred in with her husband Howard Duff. My mom and I watched it together. A true loving women who loves her man or boyfriend or soul mate will never fine a day where she won't ever stop kissing with love in her eyes to him. It's a true loving fact , if anyone knows its true love when you first make eye contact and then for some reason you cant stop thinking bout that person and you just met that person without saying a word to each other , its a sign it's true love cuz if you think about it, my way I never left my man 🥰😉 . i love my man.

I don't know how I found this movie, but I was determined *not* to watch it, much less like it. After the first ten minutes, I was hooked! I'm embarrassed to say I had never heard of the leading man, but I'm a major fan now. I'll be looking for.anything he acted in. Growing up, I wasn't allowed to watch Ida Lupino. I didn't find out until I was an adult that it was because my dad had a huge "crush" on her when he was in his teens, so mom didn't allow Ida in the house after she and dad were married! I love her now. She was so young and beautiful in this movie and there was magic between the two stars. I'm putting this on my list of favorites to watch over and over. Thanks for posting this! 🌈🌈🌈

Let's see here, should I give the fall of morality in the movie industry, I thought it was obvious. Movies made before 1960 had very little nudity, cursing, grotesque bloodiness, etc.. And yes, I enjoy watching movies without all that. I like movies with respectable actors, with plots I can relate to, without all the PC stupidity.

I think Jean Gabin steals the show here. His acting was so casual, so devil-may-care. A man's man who liked to drink, flirting with women, living like a gypsy day-to-day, looking like a Kenneth Branagh leading man stud. What American actor could of possibly been cast for BoBo's role? Maybe Spencer Tracy or Clark Gable?? All I can really come up with would be Henry Fonda in a Grapes of Wrath / Tom Joad sort of way.

I've watched lots of movies and I've seen these 2 actors act in movies where they like to drink or flirt , etc.or at the same time ..and sometimes it works out for them and sometimes not. ... Johnny deep and Robin Williams ...Each one of them liked to do both and sometimes all the things you said they did. , I'd have to think of others ... i may know of few others.😌
      Just my opinion. 🤔

I Agree. Did u see "The Hard Way?" I think that was so like Lupino. She had the substance, of a woman, who had some hard knocks in her life. Also Barbara Stanwyck. They both grew up the hard way. They can keep the blondes, with the breast implants. None compare to those two.

Amazing that such a simple, low budget, small sets, and so few with absolutely no special effects movie can move so many emotions and give such pleasure. Been watching for over a year now and just simply want to watch again. ❤👍🏻👍🏻🤌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Ida - never seen her act better, and Jean Gabin, phenomemal, and yet I never heard of him before, not too many Gabin movies to see. I paused to comment as Gabin sets a chair out on the dock for Ida to sit in so they can enjoy the sea at night together.

A well-paced plot with a distinguished cast ! Ida Lupino was such a stunning-looking actress, besides being a talented Director. Rather unusual to see Claude Rains being cast in a 'good guy' role, and Thomas Mitchell as a villain.
