Very enjoyable and a true pleasure to see Angela Lansbury in her earlier days. These older movies are so good at storytelling. No special effects needed!
What a treat to see the great character actor Jane Darwell as the landlady. I really don't understand all the negative remarks about Angela Lansbury's looks. I guess beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, because I've always thought she was quite stunning when she was young - and is a lovely older woman to this day. She had a gorgeous figure, lovely skin and hair and gorgeous eyes. Maybe not a classic beauty. but beautiful nonetheless...in my opinion at least.
No. She has no beauty. she has the snippy fat cheeked look of a woman who would sell her mother for the right price. She is great as the viper in "Please Kill Me" with Raymond Burr.
No? What did I misspell ? How do you know what she is paid? Men are stupid in the first place. She voted against Barbara Stanwyck in receiving an Oscar for "Sorry Wrong Number." Stanwyck is the best actress, the golden age, ever had to offer. But her "common" childhood of poverty, left a mark on the elite group surrounding Landsbury. You need to live closer to reality.

Wow - Douglass Dumbrille! He often played the 'bad guy with brains' in old movie serials. Any role he had, from small to big, made a major contribution to whatever level of film it was. Studying his parts would be good for any up-and-coming actor.
Omg, I am totally in love with Timeless Classic Movies, I am on my second movie and I am so amazed, yes all these are before my time, I wasn't born until mid 69 but I think I have an old soul because I would rather watch all these than the drivel they put out today. . Thank you for sharing.
I have that same old soul born 68 and grew up watching some of these movies, but really got into them in my late 20's. The best acting and story lines.
Ms Lydia G. I feel the same way. I too have an old soul. If you like comedy’s that are in black and white try Arsenic and Old Lace. His Girl Friday, Bringing up Baby. Katherine Hepburn is a little annoying in Bringing up Baby but Cary Grant is hilarious.
There are a bunch of us young, old movie lovers out there. I was born in 1982 and I LOVE old movies- film noirs, in particular. I gotta admit though it was my 1952 born mother who got me into watching. TCM on her screen most of the time. 😊
I'm with you, sister. Film noir is my kind of fun. Tough guys, and swell dames, femme fatales, et al, adrift in shadows and urban intrigue, seeking answers, romance, redemption, or a good blend of scotch. I enjoyed this one, never saw it. Impressive performances and a decent narrative. Sometimes a kiss and a simple cup of joe, can mean your undoing. Close one. Well, I gotta blow this joint, time to take it on the lam. I just heard Angela Lansbury calling. Great gal, but lethal, under the gravey. 😎
The film in question exudes a palpable aura of nostalgia, drawing viewers into a world where black and white movies reign supreme. It's evident that the creators behind this cinematic masterpiece possess such a deep admiration and passion for the classics. Their commitment to capturing the essence of that bygone era is nothing short of remarkable. The monochromatic palette becomes a canvas on which emotions are painted with exquisite subtlety, reminiscent of a time when storytelling was an art form elevated to its zenith. Watching this film is like taking a thrilling journey through the annals of cinema history, where every frame is a testament to the enduring allure of black and white. In a world dominated by vibrant technicolor, this film is a poignant reminder of the timeless beauty that lies within the shadows of grayscale. And Ahh yes I enjoyed it too 😊
I wondered what happened to the two of them. She shot him about four times, then I've been scratching my head what happened to her. Thanks for the answer.
Seems like she had a penchant for guys named Shaw. In the "Manchurian Candidate," it was Laurence Harvey who portrayed the character Raymond Shaw, the programmed assassin.
What a beautiful actress! Pity that nowadays there is no beauty in Hollywood anymore. Just Lady Gaga, Kardashians and many other stars. All of them look so masculine. They have no talents as well. The main character actor is super as well. I like very much 'low budget' classic movies. Stunning actresses with feminine figures, nice dialogs, excellent camera works. People meet in small cafes, smoke, dance, drink. Always captivating. This brings the magic to cinema.
Julia K I still don’t get the appeal for the Kardashian’s. I know the mother will just as soon take a picture of her daughters on a toilet and put it on Instagram if she can’t quite figure out what the (DRAMA) for the week is to keep her daughters in the limelight. I’m sick of them. That’s not entertainment, it’s trash. They were okay for a minute but they need to retire.

One of my faves. I much prefer Angela Lansbury in her early years because she took on so many different type roles. She could play evil, innocent and everything in between.
This is my go to movie when I’m so far down nothing helps. Mr. Shaw has been through so many difficulties and finally comes out the victor ( with someone who genuinely loves him AND always has his back) She would never betray him. Who could ask for more??? I keep hoping I’ll find victory and someone that truly loves me . Some women are contented to be trophies. I’m not wired that way. I want true blue love.... the kind Edward Shaw found. He is my inspiration. Have a lovely day.
Jane Darwell played in “The Grapes of Wrath” with Henry Fonda. She always reminded me of my own Grandmother who was so sweet. All the kids in our neighborhood called her Grandmother. I miss her dearly. Thank you for sharing this with us. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🎄. 12-9-19.

Love Angela Lansbury/not seen this one yet. She is a treasure! "Sometimes she swims in the nude" ..pretty shocking for 1954! She even had 2 lose her Brit accent, as well. Ah! Coke in a glass bottle..& probably 5 cents back then. Thx 4 posting this one. 🙂🙂🍁🍁🎃🎃

The Kaiser Darrin, also known as the Kaiser Darrin 161 or in short as the Darrin, was an American sports car designed by Howard "Dutch" Darrin and built by Kaiser Motors for the 1954 model year. Essentially a revamp of Kaiser's Henry J compact, the Kaiser Darrin was one of its designer's final achievements and was noted for being the first American car equipped with a fiberglass body and doors that slid on tracks into the front fender wells. The car was named both for Henry J. Kaiser, head of Kaiser Motors, and Darrin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiser_Darrin

I like these old films. Yes, the writing could have been better, but still very enjoyable. Good actors. I had to laugh out loud at Douglas Dumbrielle's "karate chops" though! LOL!!! -Worth the price of admission!
It kind of reminded me of how in knife scenes like in Psycho, the plunging into the stomach isn't climactic enough so they have the above the head comical swing. I do not get why it is so common in these old movies for the characters to be way over dramatic in fights.
now that's how you make a good movie, always a pleasure to watch Lansbury at work. I remember seeing Keith Andes in Star Trek TOS, he played the leader "Akuta" of a primitive tribe in the episode "The Apple" ... thanks for the upload
Some NICE classic cars in this one. Kaiser must have payed some $$$ to get their new sports car beautifully photographed. Even at 29, Angela Lansbury looked like somebody's mother ... much more suited to Manchurian Candidate. Pretty good film noir with lots of 50s sets and props. Thanks TCM
I'd never seen this film before nor had I seen the wonderful Lansbury in a role like this before. Andes is spectacular in his physicality (thank goodness he wasn't shot in the face), Lansbury looks middle-aged even though she's only 27 or 28. Loved the exterior scenes, esp. the cars, but really, a film memorable in its forgettableness. Thanks for posting.
This looks like Angela Lansbury. She's very beautiful and her voice is so soft and lovely, and so different from her Maine accent in, "Murder She Wrote." I almost wasn't sure it was her, because the voice was so different. This is a very good movie, and thank you for bringing it to us!
these old movies of the fifty's are so amusing...I love the way the women dressed back in the day....smoking and drinking was at a full time high...lol...enjoyed it...
You gotta love Noir leading men: whether they're private eyes, insurance men, architects or bee keepers, they're all street savvy, wise cracking, hard drinking guys that are suckers for the local femme fatale.

Forgive an old man, but, I prefer "Landsbury is and excellant Actress".... sick and tired of the PC crap and this new liberalism.. takes away from time tested values that got us all here today...jus sayin
Loved the movie Gaslight. I even started to use the term gaslighting. Still watch it everytime it's on
Angela Landsbury was such a gem, such a talented, intelligent and kind Lady; it’s always fun to see her in roles from her younger-years!
As an aside re the movie: If Anyone ever asked Me how much I was insured for (or asked Me to be insured) it’d sure raise red-flags for Me!
Thank-You for this!!!
Cold day in hell before you see great movies like this again..
Thanks for the movie. I only wished Andes had kept his shirt off longer. What a hunk!
@for real Seriously, though!
Ms Lydia same here born mid 69 and can never get enough of the old classics
And Ahh yes I enjoyed it too 😊
You should be writing Novels ❤ a great writer 😀
I was caught off guard by the window. Thank you writers for giving those two their 'just desserts'. Made my heart feel good.....
yes, i'd forgotten it too. It made me laugh when they disappeared:)
actually the correct phrase is "just deserts" - meaning that which they deserve. It has nothing to do with after-meal treats.
I wondered what happened to the two of them. She shot him about four times, then I've been scratching my head what happened to her. Thanks for the answer.
We pay so much money to go see a big screen movie and unlike these classics, you leave never wanting to watch it a second time.
I quit going to theaters in the 90s. High priced and people with cellphones talking loudly on them.
Angela Lansbury was always really good but when she was BAD she was BETTER.
Seems like she had a penchant for guys named Shaw. In the "Manchurian Candidate," it was Laurence Harvey who portrayed the character Raymond Shaw, the programmed assassin.
Angela Lansbury as a femme fatale. Who'dathunkit?
I only know Angela Lansbury as an elderly lady. Nice to See her so young and sexy.
Enjoy watching Angela Lansbury...good actress.
@@thisisme3238 And so sexy then!
Watching old movies makes me laugh and cry there’s no movies like the classic movies
Such clear diction and simple elegance.
Shopping at Orbach's. That line brought back memories of my childhood.
18:40 "I feel just luscious." Wow. That's something you don't hear very often.
That's a fact!
The lead actor reminds me of Michael Hutchence of INXS who died in 1997. He was gorgeous, just like this actor!
And they both committed suicide. What a coincidence.
@@shananalexander9789 And the problem is people love and follow them imitating everything they do. Nowadays one becomes famous just for being on Big Brother or having sex in front of the camera. And the audience treat them as if they were gods.
Can do w/o the smoking and excessive drinking.
Umm. I think it has been claimed that Lady Gaga was actually born male - a bit like Michele Obama.
@@abbyfox2980Sounds like you are a bit jelly of her natural beauty and musical talent. She is wildly successful in her music and acting. And likely far more humanitarian than the whiny commenters on here.
He's paranoid about everything but he just drank the coffee without thinking it could be poisonned
That's because he probably thought they were going to do something to his car and send him over the cliff like they did her first husband... But I did notice that though. LOL
Much better than all the horrible unrealistic trash movies that we have these days. Thanks for the movie. I'm planning to watch all the movies in this channel.
My Dearest Jackie;
I love you
Richard Marshall a gracious gift
Thank you !
Richard Marshall you made me cry.... but in a good way.....thank you... again
Richard Marshall I’m hearing the sounds of fireworks this evening. 💥

@@jacquelinejanz5792 That's Mr. Marshall... he's full of beans !
Lovely memories!
@Shanan Alexander...Thank you for sharing with us the fond memories of your sweet grandmother, as well as the movie trivia of Jane Darnwell and Henry Fonda.
There was a time when we would learn a little trivia about the actors from the late, great Robert Osborne. If you are a fan of Turner Classic Movies, you will remember him as the former host. May Robert Osborne RIP! May your grandmother RIP!
I love the old movies when actors could act thank you ❤️😄
Thank you for downloading this film.i appreciate the effort.this may be the only way to see classics if tcm goes. Away. Thank you
Mr. Edward Shaw/Mr.Keith Andes is surely divine.😉As is Miss Angela Lansbury.
Thanks ever so much for this upload, i enjoyed it immensely. Cheers.🙏
Loving the music..contours the atmosphere. Loving the oldies.
☺️
The film has everything I love about film noir including Angela Lansbury as the femme fatale. Thanks!
She played a femme fatale in Please Murder Me.
5:30 When I got divorced in 2000 all I had was a $10/hour job and a $5 bill. I did the same thing this guy did. I still have that $5 bill because I knew as long as I had it, I wasn't broke. In 2003 I bought a 50 acre ranch and built a small house with cash. God has been so very good to me. I had a 6 figure income for 5 years, then POOF, I've struggled ever since just to keep the ranch. But God has come through for me every single month. All the glory and honor to my Lord and Savior.
Saved by Grace amen to that my dear!!
You have strength and resilience. Wonderful. God bless.
Wow😮
Your a precious person like someone I lost many years ago. Glad too have met you Tru these movie comments 😊
Classy old movie. So many great ones came out in the '40s and '50s, that I never got to see, until UA-cam.
A movie with substance and believable. Have enjoyed this type of movie for over 50 years.
John so have I. I appreciate them more the older I get when I didn't as a child
The rented car was a Packard sedan, when I was a kid neighbors had a similar car but to me (a 5 year old kid) it looked like an overturned bathtub.
Pocket doors! The grill looked like a kiss. Standards made the design look much different than the original specs.
I'm watching while sewing and thought it was a Studebaker but no - what a neat car. Were the brakes bad? LOL funny movie couldn't tell who was up to what for a minute.
Angela moved in fast. Great show. This actor is a real man
☺️
Was looking to find out who this gorgeous actor Keith Andes was and saw that the other lead was Angela Lansbury at 29 years old. I have always been amazed at how much confidence and great acting abilities she had. She was absolutely comfortable in her own skin. This movie is a real treat.
Angela Lansbury was such a beautiful woman even at her age over the 80s.
I love her. I'm always happy to come across an old film that has her in it.
I watch Murder She Wrote episodes and she is just great in them. I love her Jessica Fletcher Character.
Ms Lansbury is always great. I saw some films wherein she sang--what a lovely voice.
Gilda Marlowe what a lovely you! Good God you are breathtakingly wow!
That old man Karate chop didn't work😄
the picture of dorian gray, she sang little yellow bird
Gida Marlowe yuuuge hit on B`wy made her world famous AGAIN was " Sweeney Todd"
I was on pens and needles the whole movie. I couldn't trust a soul in this movie. What I enjoyed most was terrific acting and wonderful leading man. Angela Lansbury has alway been wonderful I have never seen her in this way. She was very elegant and sophisticated. Such a wonderful movie.
Great movie. Although I am only thirty-one I enjoy watching the classics.I would watch Turner Classics whenever I would have time.Count me as one of your subscribers. Thank You.
The movie was obviously a second run feature film. But Angela Lansbury was as always, Just marvelous.
Liked him in the Charlie Chan flick" Castle in the Desert" DD,that is.
now that's how you make a good movie, always a pleasure to watch Lansbury at work. I remember seeing Keith Andes in Star Trek TOS, he played the leader "Akuta" of a primitive tribe in the episode "The Apple" ... thanks for the upload
Heck yes. That was him for sure. I saw that a few times last month.
I always remember him from that too.
Thanks for the movie and all the others! I no longer use cable so this a treat!!!!
barbara whittall agree
Cable tv really is a vast wasteland
I'm going to drop Verizon asap
Some NICE classic cars in this one. Kaiser must have payed some $$$ to get their new sports car beautifully photographed. Even at 29, Angela Lansbury looked like somebody's mother ... much more suited to Manchurian Candidate. Pretty good film noir with lots of 50s sets and props. Thanks TCM
Didn't know Keith Andes before, and am not especially fond of Angela Lansbury, but this was strangely enjoyable. Thank you.
Thanks for posting.
wonderful actress. does look old for the role
This looks like Angela Lansbury. She's very beautiful and her voice is so soft and lovely, and so different from her Maine accent in, "Murder She Wrote." I almost wasn't sure it was her, because the voice was so different.
This is a very good movie, and thank you for bringing it to us!
She was English.
these old movies of the fifty's are so amusing...I love the way the women dressed back in the day....smoking and drinking was at a full time high...lol...enjoyed it...
You gotta love Noir leading men: whether they're private eyes, insurance men, architects or bee keepers, they're all street savvy, wise cracking, hard drinking guys that are suckers for the local femme fatale.
In today's movies the women are like that
And they smoke like chimneys.
Jude, in today's movies the leading lady can whip the asses of ten men simultaneously. Movies have become cartoons.
Tom, a very astute observation.
They always fall for a Tramp
Awesome movie. Thanks for sharing.Who could forget the unforgettable heart throb Keith Andes! 💖💕
☺️
I know I won't!🩷😊🩷

This was really good and wow young Angela Lansbury!
Gosh I wish everyone would spend the time writing a good synopsis. 🙏🙂
I think it's totally hilarious how they give away the entire scheme and the description. WARNING: Description contains spoilers!! Lol
I love unpredictable movies - and this was so bad it was unpredictable. LOVED it - also loved co-starring with Angela twice on Murder She Wrote. Very relaxed set - everyone loved her - very comfortable. Wish I would have seen this before MSW so I could have asked her her thoughts about this script.
MSW was the best show ever
I was one when this movie was made....... I enjoy seeing the way things were then. Thanks!
I was born in 1954 in July
^^^@Jim Cori .. I was none when this movie screened, I would make my appearance somewhat four year's later Ha!!! :P] .v ..

Ha, I was four months old. How e world has changed.! It was like lifetimes ago when this movie was in theaters.

Awesome movie. Wasn't sure til the end who the murderer would be!
The amazing Angela Landsbury - going strong 64 years later!
96 years young.

"That's me you hear whistling in the street."
Great line.
Heeeeyyyyy... I just heard that line! What does it mean? Did I miss something earlier.
Binyon H I believe it means I was gone yesterday and I’m down in the street already
I vaguely remember this since I am 89 years old and I would have been in my twenties when this was made so I seen it along the way sometime but it was very good mystery movie thank you
Just SUBSCRIBED!! Love that you're here my days and nights will be filled with the movies I love because of you!!
Love watching old movies. Enjoyed this one, despite its goofy plot.

Im only 53 and love these older movies , and thought to myself is that angela lansbury , then seen a comment below yes is it .
I wasn't even born yet, but I love these old movie classics.
I a.m a huge Angela lansbury fan. Her acting shows that she was trained in the theatre.
Liver & Onions 85 cents on the restaurant menu sign! Wow. Such a deal!
By gramps loved liver and onions
Great movie! I stumbled upon this, Angela a true treasure!
