Our country's history of slavery should be acknowledged and condemned, BUT the gator bait chant was created less than 30 years ago, by a proud gator who was also a former black football player! This chant was never meant to reference African American babies who were used as alligator bait. This ban is a mistake on UF's part.

I’m all for tradition, but not if it honors a past as ugly as that, whether intentionally or not. Ignorance is not justification.
