You can save iron by using zinc nuggets instead when making andesite alloy. Considering you won't be making brass until you've grabbed a blaze from the nether anyway, there's no reason you can't be using the zinc right away.
Priority list of buildings in order, in my opinion; is 1"upgraded" guard tower with at least 1 archer and one knight, 2 or more farms, 1 warehouse, university, and restaurant
Warehouse, quarry, and mine. If you can't secure storage and supply, things will CRAWL like with Byzantine did for you. Very important to pre-empt supply before the demand becomes out of control
This is way easier, quicker, cheaper, and doesn't take up a colonist when he only has three of them. This incredibly crude setup made of scraps will produce stripped logs faster than anything minecolonies can do
Okay, quick tip: For Nether Portals, if you don't want to have pigmen spawning in the overworld through your portal, make two dispensers. On one, you place a flint and steel in it, with a button on the back to activate the flint, igniting the portal. In the other dispenser, you place a water bucket, and place a lever on the back. Both of the dispensers should be facing right into the portal. When you flip the lever, it'll pour out water into the portal, breaking the portal. Hit the lever a couple more time to suck the water back into the bucket, a VOILA! You have a proper functional on/off switch for your nether portal.
Looking forward to the custom builds. I've been playing around with custom minecolony buildings and datapack for about a month and here's some things that might help with not every building needing a completely flat area. Minecolonies has placeholder blocks. One of which says keep whatever is there. In order to keep some of the natural landscape I've found using a combination of solid place holder blocks, keep what is there place holder blocks, and selecting a fill block at the builders hut that matches the terrain will achieve the most natural look.
If you had set forth the proposition that I'd enjoy watching someone boat down a river in minecraft I'd have said you're nuts. Happy to be proven wrong by Sjin. Keep the excellent stuff coming.
"I's insanely hot here in England, it's about 25 degrees". I just got back from my morning walk, nice and cool outside this early. Only 29 degrees. But to be fair Im now back home with the AC turned to 25, without it I would be complaining
As for building priorities, I'd suggest you want both the forester and the miner set up next before touching on the need of a warehouse, university or guard towers. While you definitely want guards sooner rather than later, it's best to place the resource gatherers first in my opinion 😅
So, I'm sure you're probably aware, but you don't need a belt line in order to use create machines. You can instead use either a depot (Made with just an andesite casing and an andesite alloy) underneath the machine such as the press, or you can even just put whichever item that you want processed onto the ground with a block of space between the block the item is on and the press. Additionally, at least in the version of create you're running, you don't actually need to have flowing water on multiple sides of the water wheel anymore. Instead, as long as there is flowing water on at least one face of the wheel, it'll produce it's maximum stress and RPM. Lastly, if you convert one or two of your small water wheels into large water wheels, and keep them on the same stress system as the remaining small water wheel, then they'll actually maintain the faster 8 RPM of the small water wheel instead of the 4 RPM of the larger water wheel. Once you get comfortable with using gear ratios, you might want to consider converting all your water wheels into large ones, as it'll allow you to consistently produce 512 SU per water wheel, as opposed to the 256 produced by each small water wheel.
29:24 lil tip: you can use the Wrench to instantly pick up almost everything Create using shift-click, saving time and dura on your axes and picks. It also puts the item into your inventory instead of dropping it on the floor like when you 'break' blocks.
Listening to you try to wrangle 'Akizuki' is always a treat. ❤ Please never change, Sjin Oh, I love that player house! Being able to add your own schematics in Minecolonies is so good. I always have trouble making my custom builds fit in with the rest of the pack, haha

Can't wait to see how your steampunk colony progress😁.
love the house! as for the next build, I feel like a where house is good but I always like to get the mine down as fast as possible because it takes such a long time for it to get down to the good resources.
I would suggest adding a river / waterfall from off the mountain, running into the "pond" under the town hall. Makes it look like the water is meant to be there.
Thank goodness you aren't having to endure the blistering 77F heat that Sjin is dealing with, you might not survive such extreme (literally the definition of) room temperature!
43c 110f in California this past month. Got a slight reprieve this week down in the chilly low 90s (32c), but it will be back up by the weekend. I work the night shift thankfully.
Idk if anyone said anything but as of the Authentic Update 1 block of water is the same as all sides the speed is the same however the big wheels also make 2x more power you can also just right click the press or anything going on a conveyer and it will be in the right spot
I don't know if it's available yet but I'd suggest making a university just so you can get a head start on research that can go on in the background while you're doing create stuff or other buildings on the city
I'm not sure which turtle mod you are using, but of the 2 that i know, 1 let's you shift right click the turtle with an empty hand (off hand must be empty to) to pick them up as an item, and the other turtle mod let's you use buckets/water buckets to pick up the turtle (depends on the type)
Be careful with the mechanical saw or the open lava place... The colonists or worse the people in the tavern can die on that... Next builds should be 1 warehouse, 2 courier huts and then a University followed by either a farm or fisherman's hut for food.. Maybe a Guard Tower or two later on... Also u said 25 deg Celcius is Hot?? It is 35 - 40 here in India...
Sjin, how much create have you done in the past? Not sure cause i just found your channel today. I ask cause the water wheels can be given more power if you put a dirt block behind the water wheel and qllow the water to flow over the wheel then flow backwards underneath it. Pretty much, the more flowing water you have against the wheel, the more rotational force you get. Last tip is to have soul sand create a water elevator on the back side of the wheel to have all four directions flowing.
I say build a Warehouse, then a Courier. You're going to want those for automation, because I think Create can output into the postboxes and thus into your system?
Sjin, you surely heard of mod Distant Horizons, would you use it to let us see your gorgeous colony and all the scenery around in one beautiful birds eye view ? :3
