I applaud this achievement. As a climber of 30 years I have to say that climbing a 5.12 does not make you a “real” climber. Just climbing a lot at any grade DOES. Gatekeepers can shove it. And It’s arguably harder to get super solid at 5.9 trad than climbing a few 5.12’s. So difficulty is relative and numbers often don’t mean shit. Best of luck and remember that climbing a long time is the real goal. Be safe!

Yea I totally agree, regardless of grade we are all climbers if we do indeed climb :) Great job on the send

Thank you. Yes, I understand grades are subjective and don’t mean much in the long run. In MY opinion, for me personally, that was the grade I felt would make me feel that I really knew how to climb. Coming from a place where no one climbed that grade, I’m quite proud to have gotten there when I was told so many times I couldn’t. So while it’s just a number, it does mean something to me. I do plan to climb forever, both trad and sport.

You’re not wrong. I’ve gotten a handful of 12-12+ and even a single 13a. I took on gear twice in the epinephrine 2nd chimney and even had to French free on gear to get out of the chimney.

Just a few months ago I was able to overcome my fear of falling. It was preventing me from climbing harder than 6b since I'd just stop after feeling the pump since I was afraid of falling. One day, I was able to finish my project and instead of clipping to the anchor, I just took a victory whipper because of the happiness... Dude that was the thing that I needed to climb harder and now I climb until I can't and just take the whipper.
Fear of falling is a big progress blocker

Great job! Also love seeing this type of content on UA-cam so well edited. Don't get me wrong, the climbing pros make great videos too but this is much more relatable for me as a normal climber struggling on some 5.11's

this is so wholesome. You are doing some fucking amazing climbing, im so inspired haha. while I have climbed my whole life, just for the fun and adventure, i just recently found myself in a gym, I have been staying on this predetermined regimen of climbing all the 5's, and all the 5.10a's, b's, c's, d's-in order. I am just now breaking into 11's comfortably, definitely need the strength or stamina in some places, but I hadnt even considered climbing anything beyond what I had been doing. I forgot that its just for fun, I mean I love the challenge and "game" like level ups, you finish red and now you can do green topping out is so satisfying. I forgot that climbing for me has always been the fun and challenge of CLIMBING! without the ratings and codes and all that, to approach a god damn boulder or wall or building and YOU see a way up, then fucking send it. I have gotten half way up some 5.13s in the gym but lack experience and strength to go further

Awesome goal!! I would love to be able to even top rope a 12a even if I fell a bunch-just to be able to do all the moves. But I have only ever made it up a few 11’s without having to cheat some moves 🙁

Hosed because of rope drag? On a sport route that is basically a straight line of bolts? I know I’m going to catch shit for this, but can we just normalize saying “I’m not strong enough, but I’ll get there” or “If I climb smarter, I’ll have the endurance i need” Anyway, nice send.

    • @boundforeverywhere
      @boundforeverywhere 2 роки тому

Thank you!! You will get it! Just don’t push yourself into panic. Slowly step outside your comfort zone until your comfort zone expands and then the fear will start to go away. Maybe take some practice falls when you feel safe and just try to focus on the climbing :)

Ok, what the heck do I have to do to get this grade sent?
I just started trying 12’s in the gym and some I make it half way, After telling myself if I make it through 5 moves I’ll be happy.
Some I can keep going which may be “feel good settings”
    Others I get shut down.
People say I’m strong enough but lacking tech.
And I ask like what?! Cuz I want this! Haha
And they say I don’t know get more technical! 😂
Should I get coaching? The end goal is to climb 12’s outside someday but mainly climb anything with better technique. Any suggestions for prep?
Sorry! Im sure you get these questions all the time! I started climbing in spring. But got some solid trips in down south to WV and KY. Epic trips! Amazing people! Just wanna pull my weight with the homies is all! 😂
    Thanks! Great video!

@@bhgraf08 i disagree. When you really want something and you’re pushing yourself to your absolute limit and get 10ft from finishing, how could that not be disappointing? Maybe you just haven’t found a route that inspires you to get to that place? Or maybe you don’t get that invested and that’s ok too.
