I’m 63, born and raised in Alabama. Been a country female all my life, still am. I remember going to my grandparents house with my family and waking up on Sunday morning with the smell of fresh fried smothered chicken and biscuits cooking. Grandma and momma would scramble eggs also. To me, that’s still the best Southern breakfast that ever was!

Bacon grease! Cook those hot dogs and sauerkraut in bacon grease! Season those green beans (which looked awesome) with bacon grease! Potato cakes? You got it, fry them in bacon grease! Oil is bland, butter is better, but that southern food really comes to life with bacon grease!
I grew up in the 80's we had dinner every single night at the kitchen table. Friday was pizza or KFC. My parents still have dinner every night at the kitchen table. I did Sunday dinners with my daughter in the late 90's early 2000's being a single mom we had dinner most nights at my parents. I love it.
My family is from east TN & I can remember mother making sauerkraut & weenies when we were little. TN has changed alot since I was born there 68 years ago. But one of my fondest memories is when we would get snowed in for a week or more. We would nail up Quilts over the openings to the family room and keep the fire going 24/7. If we were snowed in we did not have electric. It made my little heart sing with joy on the morning that we got up & mother let us roast weenies for breakfast. I was too young to understand that our food was getting low I just knew that it was the best thing EVER to have weenies for breakfast.

Trying slicing your shrooms up then add some sliced onions, butter of course. Then add some Worcestershire sauce, garlic and onion powder and sauté. YUM!!!

Yay! Sunday supper my favorite series. If your husband likes sauerkraut he will love the sauerkraut from the deli section in Costco called Wild Brine. And it's really good for your stomach because that's probiotics. Is fresh and wonderful. It's great on hot dogs it's great the way you made it although that cooks it. It's great on an egg, graton ramen, great stirred in fried rice, sandwich it's great with pork chops, it's great in mashed potatoes. Just about anywhere and I bet he would love some.
I used to buy mushrooms from a vendor at the Frankfurt bahnhof on my way home afterwork. They cooked it in a huge skillet and I mean huge with onions. In the morning I bought crepes from another vendor at the bahnhof.
I grew up with kraut and weenies. I'm not that fond of kraut, I do cabbage and weenies. I mix it with boiled potatoes, a bit of mayo and some mustard. Feast.

On Sunday we had a big lunch. Germany has their main meal at lunch and a small meal at Supper. After we cleared the table we all went for a walk. Depending on where we lived it could be in fields and forest, in town, or downtown window shopping as all stores were closed on Sunday. Then go home for coffee and cake.

I love watching your Sunday supper & seeing the similarities & differences from our dishes in the Midwest. We eat the kraut dish but with polish sausage instead of hotdogs. Sometimes I brown the sausage slices & substitute the kraut for green beans. I love mushrooms but I never thought to add brown sugar. I’m going to try that! Also excited to see how easy the potatoes pancakes were w the dried flakes. We always have pouches of those around & I love potato pancakes.
I love sauerkraut. I could just eat it by itself. Lol. I love it with hotdogs or sausage. We also love potato patties. I would cut up a hotdog and add it to it. BTW, I'm a mushroom hater. Lol Everything else looks delicious.❤
I cook my hotdogs and sauerkraut in a pot of water with extra vinegar and a can of beer. The beer I use is stale meaning right before it expires. More flavor. So much better cooked in beer. I only make it for new year’s. Mashed potatoes on the side. Also some kind of pork for those who don’t like sauerkraut.
I absolutely love Braydon’s smile when he eats something good! I wanted to share a meal my mother made often for the five of us kids; macaroni and cheese with sautéed wieners and frozen peas thrown in at the last minute (so they didn’t get mushy). Yummy! I love sauerkraut on my brats, never thought of mixing them with sautéed wieners! I’m definitely going to try it! Thanks Brooke!

Italian dressing is my dad’s go to chicken marinade.
We make the Italian chicken and put it in quesadillas or on top of salad.

Brooke I made chicken gnocchi soup for Sunday dinner. The gnocchi came from the dollar tree. Dessert was cherry crisp.
