Been djing for almost 20 years, and when you mentioned if we (non content DJs) are left behind - The answer is Yes. These fake social media DJs and everything else that has gone into that has been nothing but a plague. We are now judged by your content/followers than knowing how to actually mix music.

Honestly why I didn't really pursue DJing as a career. Still have fun as a hobby 7 years later, but the step from bedroom DJ to actually making it is a 10000ft mountain where you have to learn every skill under the sun to be successful. Also a giant dose of luck getting the right people and right time and right place. And as you said, pay to play, be willing to eat a lot of time and cost for a chance to get any type of audience recognition.

It really is a lot of work and stress. There are times when I wonder what would life be like if I didn't decide to make my passion my profession.

After spending time in Europe and coming back to the states . I realized building your own party is the way to go . Build your crowd play what you and your audience likes pay for the venues to host your event / party . Build it as a brand and eventually you will go further in your career. Either through touring or now calling the shots when booked .

@@PDot Agreed. Finding the time and energy to do so as I get older is the issue I face in this present moment. I have been putting more energy into a non connected successful business and about to launch a second. There isn't much left in my cup to take on the DJ game the way it is today.

    1. I appreciate this candid video, Pdot. I know it's not easy to try to articulate everything you're feeling. There's a lot of layers to this. 2. For me, I just do whatever I'm comfortable with. I've gotten some recognition off of UA-cam, but not a lot. I mostly just continue to go out there and DJ as much as I can and build on that. But I'm not going to knock anyone else's hustle of being social media DJs. I feel a way about it, but it's not for me and that's okay. There's enough room for all of us. My biggest problem is when people get a little too bold online (for example, I did a parody routine on TikTok and someone commented to k*ll myself), but that's a symptom of internet culture as a whole. There's space for everyone in here!

I'm an introvert Dj and to be honest the introvert Djs are more passionate about the craft...I enjoy Djing as a Hobby.

I believe that most DJs that really love the craft are introverts!

Would if I just want to be a dj? I plan on opening a wedding venue and want to be able to dj the events myself. I have no interest in doing clubs or anything like that. That said..all your videos I've watched so far are perfectly informative and easy to watch. Is there one you can direct me to that will help me go from no equipment to purchasing and setting up everything? I know i want the Rev7 for sure. I need someone to take me under their wing! I have a Launchpad and Macbook Pro already. I just need to make sure I don't make any mistakes from here on out!

I'm laughing at the older DJs who don't get how the current game is. I'm happy that I don't really have to play the game of social media. I get to do open format and I am trusted with playing the right music. Props on giving real insight especiially to DJs who are on the outside looking in.
