      UA-cam response template:
      Start with an unnecessary statement about who you are:
      * "As a _____" , or
      * "As someone who______", or
      * "As a ____, who has ____, I can confirm ____"

    Those were some good points. I would also add a pro, the wide open spacious campus and food vendors. As a con, I would add being located on the far western part of the eastern time zone. In the winter, the sun comes up late and goes down early. If you live in the dorms, be careful. You might get a screwy roommate. Living in dorms is part of the college experience, but by a far and wide margin, majority groups benefit from this the most. You might want to investigate just getting an apartment and skipping the dorm drama. If you escape the dorms without drama, then that is wonderful. You can only live in the dorms as a freshman, anyway.
    Back to the pro-side, there are great work-study jobs! You can get a head start on your career if you have to work and study. However, like he says, there are quite a bit of weeder classes. Doing work study at UM might not be the best idea. Be a student and study in your freshman year.
    Finally, the number one pro is the number of cafes in the town! You can study in places that go beyond the library (which can put you to sleep, and tends to be more social, anyway). UM has a nice student union to study in, and overall, it is a wonderful campus.
    If a true blue college experience is what you want, then you want to go to a school like the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. However, there are no schools and cities, together, as cool as Ann Arbor, MI. You will love this place for life.

    I am 6 classes from completing my double major in computer science and sociology. Con #1 is very accurate in my personal experience. The sociology program feels like it's designed to push you into their masters program where you have a larger access to research/teaching/career positions. The computer science program is built to get you job ready by the time you graduate and the difference in the quality of education relative to the subject was eye opening for me. Con #6 is also extremely applicable to computer science here, with the core courses (EECS 281, 370, and 376) designed to weed folks out and keep them from the upper levels where the courses mellow out a lot more. However, the computer science program has some of the best courses I have taken at the university (EECS 280 is my favorite). You made a lot of great points and this was a great watch.

    Great review! Your pros seem to outweight the cons and EVERY school has 'weeder' courses. It just means you have to step it up. Don't take it as 'I don't belong.' because you got into the school, and that in itself the greatest hurdle. See the weeder courses as opportunities to identify where you need to improve or identify where your strengths really are. After watching this it seems this university is worth the investment. Thank you.

    I would've applied, and would gladly have attended if accepted if it were not for the fact that my estimated cost of attendance was about 50k a year.
    Rather, I got into an "expensive" private school, which thankfully gave me a full ride.

      I know this comments a year old but imma still say this; that con does not apply to most OOS low income students. I've been given a huge sticker price, but it went down nearly 90% after their grants/scholarships and FAFSA. I'm now paying the cost of an in-state student. Ive noticed this was the case for most low income students too

    This is such a hard choice as a transfer umich wont except my math courses which sucks if I have to take them over but gosh I know this school would really provide me with a lot of opportunities but at the same time would be like a semester or even a year set back. I’ve also heard a lot about it being a gpa killer which wouldn’t be good in my case especially as a junior which makes it harder to choose

    • @williamsturley6631
      @williamsturley6631 Рік тому +1

      Very hard to maintain the same GPA as high school or most other colleges, true. But remember the student body consists of 95th percentile and above, serious scholars, so what might be a "C" at UMich would be a B or even A elsewhere. But that is known and accepted by recruiters. Don't worry.

    Your cons were generally minor issues. #1 inconcistencies between disciplines you actually dismissed as a con at the end by saying the univerity levels the playing field between programs. That's a Pro. #2 weather? Get a good coat and umbrella. Yep Ann Arbor has winter but the fall and spring there are marvelous. A picayune point. #3Dining halls. Matter of opinion mostly, but you pointed out a pro- students living off campus can buy a meal plan that is "not that expensive" even though they don't live in a dorm. #4 Expensive. Yes for out of state, but you get what you pay for. #5. North Campus. Agree most students want to live in a dorm on Central Campus because that's where the night life is. But most students live in the dorms in first year only. After that you control where you live in off campus housing. #6 Grade deflation? What do you expect when you're competing with the 99th ,98th, 97th percentile of all college students. Bear down, it ain't HS anymore. Math is the premiere weeder course at Michigan. Better you find out as a first year student whether you can cut it or not. However overall you did a fine job informing potential incoming students what to expect. Congratulations on a fine presentation. BTW I'm an alum with a BS in math and an MBA in finance. My granddaughter is there now studying chemical engineering. As you know you will always be proud you are a Wolverine. (It's great, to be, a Michigan Wolverine!)

  • @SchoolBusStop-ArmAudit
    @SchoolBusStop-ArmAudit 4 місяці тому

    The GSI model in higher education is CRAP! The ONLY justification for this is if the college gives you a tuition break for the credit hours on the class. If a Grad Student is teaching your class it means the College is not only increasing profits by paying someone less to teach your class, but they are making more money on the research grant given to the PHD professor that is supposed to be teaching you this material. When I took my MASTERS LEVEL MBA I realized the class was just us reading the same Business 100 book from undergrad, except we had to do a project every week instead of twice a semester. Here is a way to not get Scammed....CLEP Test out of most of your undergrad work to save money. Go to local Library, coursework take test, then enroll in the next higher level course. 2 year community college will also save you big.

  • @bodong9552
    @bodong9552 Рік тому +2

    as someone who graduated this year. For pre health students, you don't get small classes until you get to 300/400 level, and you rarely get a prof who cares about you. If you do stats; 300/400 prof doesn't give a damn about you. Overall, if you are rich and well-connected you will do well; if you are poor and first-gen good luck struggling-2023 graduates.
