Hi, I am lucky enough to also be the owner of a 916 Spider phase 2. Mine is a 3.0 12v in Zoe Yellow with a dark blue momo interior. The 2.0 is more predictable to drive. I've also driven a GTV which just had the 2.0 engine and it is more balanced. However, the sound of the Busso along with the Ragazzon exhaust is just the most beautiful sound to ever come out of a six cylinder engine. Enjoy the Spider as much as you can, no one will ever make cars like this.
Thanks a lot for the amazing comment! For sure if I would have had the budget I would have gone for the Busso! There is no doubt of it. I am just searching the good things on a 2.0 TS being really sad that i will hardly afford a Busso as the prices rises every day!
@@drivenwheels1 I was lucky enough to get one six years ago for less than 6,000 euros with 94,000 kilometers on the odometer. Prices are really flying up at an insane rate and I definitely couldn't have afforded it if I was buying it a few years later. Of course, there was expected an expensive service. 12 valve busso engines don't have hydros, but the valve clearances are adjusted mechanically. Someone had apparently neglected this in the past, so I was looking at replacing the cams and valve lifters along with other minor repairs which add up to another maybe 3000 euros in past 3 years. It's in top condition at the moment and I hope to finally start enjoying it properly without stress. And absolutely great video by the way.
@@KINOTribute Wow!¨3000 € is a big expense, but if you are ready to enjoy it now that is great! I was the other day with my Spider in Trieste, took my wife and we had a full day of sunshine driving around. Luckly the kids were with her parents! This is just pure joy once a month! Hahah) BTW i have 2 kids and the Spider is my third car in the family, mostly in the garage waiting for a weekend drive.
I bought my Spider 916 (V1 3.0 V6) in 2013 for 3.500€ and i still love it! I drive my Spider only when the weather is nice and i think i will never sell it!
Yes .I have a 2000 model gtv t/s and it's a color I have never seen before like a pearlescent sky blue 💙 beautiful.. Drives great after some work mostly mot ....😊 love it ❤...
I owned a 2002 model in black. Purchased in 2015 for £2700. Drove it daily for 5 years, then sold it in 2020 for £2375. Great in the corners but not particularly quick by modern standards. Only had a few issues. Clutch slave replaced £80 Sticking rear brake lights on £20 Oil leak. Seat bolster wear. In the UK, they're a modern classic and still quite cheap. Electric roof and aerial all worked fine, but rear window showing signs of wear. Paint was starting to fade and peel so had to sell, as couldn't justify expensive respray.
Nice production mate, and sweet Spider. I have a 156 sportwagon and 166, but have always liked this car too. I actually found one parked in an expat's compound in Qatar and was thinking about working on it. Unfortunately shipping anything into Qatar is difficult or impossible.
@@drivenwheels1 Oh I bought those two when I came back to Australia mate. We go the 156 in a few different flavours of engines and transmissions. The 166 however was only ever sold with the busso v6 3.0, which isn't such a bad thing. The 4 speed auto from ZF is a bit old school though, hah.
Very good video thank you very much for telling me all about the car. I’m going to buy a 2004 model. All the very best from down under once again. Thanks for the great video
Pozdravi, jako fin Spider Ja imam fazu 3 Spider s Jts motorom, nikad nikakvih problema.
Great review thanks I got 2004 jts meteor grey with red leather momo interior, I love it , the engine have more power and torque than the twin spark they are same bottom end but the head are different the only thing I missed is the sound of the twin spark but never mind I still own an 1999 alfa 156 2.0lt twin spark manual.
Bella Macina. My only Cabrio ill never forget. Buyed and less a year i was married aged 25. That all happend 25 years ago and 4 boys later i didnt regret a bit of that except the fact a Spider is for 2 persons only😂
What kind of problems do you mean with JTS ? I know well both of the engines (TS and JTS) and I prefer JTS. Both need regularly oil. JTS needs less gasoline and is more powerful. About reliability, I don't see differences
The common carbon build-up on the inlet valves, higher oil consumption than the T.S variant, the 165hp aren't felt. I feel the T.S. is faster. Not characterful as the TS. Early teething issues with sensors (52-late 03). Direc injectors problems... (My spider is the 7th alfa that i Own).
@@BenoitXVIII My problems with the sensors on JTS: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2, bank 1, heater control - circuit malfunction, and lower crankshaft sensor. And too much oil consumption. The variator if not in good condition tent to lower drastically the performance of the engine.
@@drivenwheels1 Handy to know, my 156 has that JTS. I actually got it with an engine management error and previous owner cited an oxygen sensor. I did clear codes and it hasn't come back. That said, it's not exactly smooth running at the moment. I have a NOS variator for when I do the timing belts, etc. next.
