In my opinion they have gotten a much better deal on the silver one. Cambelt is the least of the costs compared to what the red one needed doing earlier.
A real shame about the oil leak spoiling the overall car, but rust wise its in the best condion I've seen for a long time on here Neil, all the best for the New Year.
The silver one is head and shoulders above the red one, I think your customer did pretty well. There is a lot of over priced cars out there at the moment that need serious work to keep them running . I think He found one of the good ones!
I think an unbelievably good deal compared to the red one. And at least with you doing the jobs the customer will know it's fit for the future. Hope he gets you to do some protection underneath to preserve what looks like an exceptionally good car.
Seems good. Looks like a well looked after car, showing its age. Hence, if your customer gets the work done with you, he should have full confidence in it. Checked over and sorted, even if it does cost a little extra over his deal price. I'd have one!
Interesting video. We have similar but a '96 2.0 Twin Spark. 26 years old. Heck of a lot of fun on a sensible budget and the engine note is so, so sweet. Run it on the right fuel and enjoy every trip.
Looks like a good investment. Your first assessment of the cam belt was that it was a good thing that it was being looked at as it was just about to give up , however I got the feeling that once you got it off it wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be. Anyhow it was presumably time for a change.
Fabulous investment. An Alfa specialist, the first day I took my Sud to work, put a flyer under a wiper. I phoned, and went to see them at an agreed time. 15 minutes of them rudely walking past me I would have waited an hour to say ‘You lot, are not touching my baby’. We rasped and snarled away. Man and Sud madly in love 😂
I might be feel like this because I lost my GT to a bad sill repair (whole car burned down) but I feel like the oil leaks can be fixed with just seal changes, but a rusty underbody would be more trouble. I think the customer got a nice car for 3500.
Neil Hello and Merry X-mass. I have a Spider exactly like the (silver) one on this video. It is an 1.8TS. The car is driven daily on nice open roads and it drives nice an well with the engine feeling strong. Now a couple of weeks ago my emissions card expired, so I was called to renew it. I went to the Greek equivalent of MOT center and I was told that the car failed the test due to high CO emissions and that I have to take the car at a garage for repairs. I took the car at a local garage and I had the injectors cleaned. Then I made an appointment with the official Alfa Romeo dealer in Athens. I drove there (about 80miles away) and the conclusion was that the car is running "rich" but they can do nothing about it because they don't have the right ECU scan tool. The "rich" verdict come from deposits at the exhaust tip and a weird smell of the exhaust gases both of which I confirm. This week i will be trying another Alfa Romeo Specialist. As I said the engine appears powerful enough and there are no warning lights on the dash. If it was you what would be the first thing to look at ? Thanks !
Nice one Neil I think your customer got a good deal on this silver Spyder. It's in better condition overall bodywise (especially for a 20 year old car) & the mechanical issues should be relatively easy to sort for an expert such as yourself. Happy New Year & please keep the YT videos coming🥂🎉
An excellent car - regardless of it being an Alfa it's condition for a a car verging on being 23 years old is very good indeed. The money saved from not purchasing the red example can be used to bringing this car up to an extremely good standard.
Considering it's 20 years old it doesn't look a bad car at all, and I'd be happy with my perches!!! Oil seals do degrade with time that's life, but still a lot left in this one 👍.
Hello! i'm italian my name is diego i live in tuscany. I own a gtv 3.0 v6 24v year 2001. £5000 for this spider is pretty good!! there is some work to do though, then you should see the condition of the main bearings with almost 100,000 miles... those could be a problem.... underneath there is some rust on the suspension and arms... 👋
Looks like a remarkably good deal. I wouldn't have the nerve to buy an Alfa 'sight unseen' and I was expecting to see a rust trap, but it looks like as good as new.
Niel , you gotta do something with the floor of your garage , have it tiled or a fresh epoxy paint , doesn't look great the way it is even when it's dry
Had one from new and it had done 112000 by the time I sold it. 1999 S Reg if remember. Used it as my works car and enjoyed it immensely. Spent plenty of time at the Alfa Agents in Carlisle though. Hood problems, new crankshaft and a load of minor stuff but that was Alfas for you.
I wouldnt be describing that car as 'ok' - It has obviously been very well cared for and appears in excellent condition - only the rad support remains to be done - the seals and cambelt are routine servicing Clearly a road and engine running test remain to sign it off as 'excellent' not yet a show car, but doesnt need much more love
My 01 Spider is virtually identical. Here in Western Australia, rust isn't a concern (mine doesn't have a speck on the body or underside) but parts supply definitely is.
£5000?! £3500?! A lot of people asking way above what cars are worth these days. Very greedy sellers overvaluing heaps of sh*t. I'm seeing spiders for £1500-£2500
Cambelt is a service item and should be factored into the running cost of a vehicle. This looks to be a better deal than the red one, once the service work is done there is little else that needs doing as a matter of urgency. £3500 is still cheap money for a spider, I know it’s a 2.0 but they are still good engines and in many ways are better handling and cheaper to run than a Busso
I know you can get these for £700, £1500 but it looks like it's worth spending a bit extra if you can get a good one that doesn't need a load of expensive work.
Crap, had one, its a fiat tipo chassis, synchro goes on gear box, plus plastic cogs that drive cam belts they disintigrate. Car only good in straight line, better with an mazda mx5
In my opinion they have gotten a much better deal on the silver one.
Cambelt is the least of the costs compared to what the red one needed doing earlier.
I agree
A real shame about the oil leak spoiling the overall car, but rust wise its in the best condion I've seen for a long time on here Neil, all the best for the New Year.

For an Italian car of that year it seems to be in exceptional condition.
It's pretty good
I think an unbelievably good deal compared to the red one. And at least with you doing the jobs the customer will know it's fit for the future. Hope he gets you to do some protection underneath to preserve what looks like an exceptionally good car.
I think he's picked up a bargain there 👍👍👍
He sure has
Seems good. Looks like a well looked after car, showing its age. Hence, if your customer gets the work done with you, he should have full confidence in it. Checked over and sorted, even if it does cost a little extra over his deal price. I'd have one!
You’re too good to us. Merry Christmas 🎄
Happy holidays!

Yeah wasn't that bad but it was due to be swapped.
Fabulous investment. An Alfa specialist, the first day I took my Sud to work, put a flyer under a wiper. Man and Sud madly in love 😂
Oh dear

Maybe coolant temperature sensor? I would try fuel treatment like Dipthane aswell (worked for me on emissions test).
I'm only an amateur tinkerer 🤔👍🇮🇪
Change the O2 sensor.
@@ItaliaAutos Thank you very much Neil.
Nice one Neil

A good solid basis. Some maintenance and tidy up, it will be a great car worth preserving.
Good Spider and better than the red one, I would replace the tyres to premium brand. Had the same oil leak sorted with my 1999 TS Spider (120 kmiles).
Thanks for the great videos, Neil. Love them.

good vid to show what to look for
Good car for the long term. Lack of rust has to be the main plus.
Very much so. Thanks for watching g.
Absolutely brilliant video neil 👍❤️ what a beautiful car brilliant hope you had a good Xmas hope you have a good new year
Thanks, you too!
Nice Spider Merry Chrismas Neil
Thanks.
That seems total mint for its age and in general to be honest, hes found a real good one this time.
Damn, what a clean example. Was looking mighty pristine until we saw the underside of the engine, lol. Good deal
It's in very good condition got a bargain methinks
I so regret selling our yellow spider. Amazing little big car. Had a great trip through france and it was awesome
Nice video Neill i make a linke to the Dutch spider website. I hope you get more visitors.
Keep on the good work i appreciate your blogs.
Thanks
That's in cracking nick , excellent buy 👍🏻
Looks like a remarkably good deal. I wouldn't have the nerve to buy an Alfa 'sight unseen' and I was expecting to see a rust trap, but it looks like as good as new.
Yeah it's a big risk
Niel , you gotta do something with the floor of your garage , have it tiled or a fresh epoxy paint ,
doesn't look great the way it is even when it's dry
looks quite tidy really. future classic for sure.
Really surprised how clean it is underneath 👏 sump gasket leaking too i think, looks very wet, and if you have ruled out rocker gasket 🙂👍

Still got some time to get it into perfect condition.
I'd be well happy with the silver one, not bad at all really!
Will be a cracking car when those little bits are sorted, can't be many left in that kind of condition I'm very jealous
Looks to be a very good buy. All that you are doing for the owner is pretty routine for any car that age.
Very good purchase for a 2000 year car .
Defo proves that in the car’s history it’s been well looked after .
You need a dog. All the car channels have one.
For £3500 I would be more than happy with that car. It looks really nice in silver too.
they dropped on their feet with that one neil, merry xmas and happy new year
Definitely better than the red one!!
Great condition really, whatever the make.
A very straight car, made better after you have gone over it. 👍
Sure will.
My 01 Spider is virtually identical. Here in Western Australia, rust isn't a concern (mine doesn't have a speck on the body or underside) but parts supply definitely is.
Lovely
Much better deal this one!!
£5000?! £3500?! A lot of people asking way above what cars are worth these days. Very greedy sellers overvaluing heaps of sh*t. I'm seeing spiders for £1500-£2500
He had a good deal, here in Bologna that would have costed him minimum 7000 pound.
Think he got a bargain, all best for new year.
Cheers. He sure has
Cambelt is a service item and should be factored into the running cost of a vehicle.
This looks to be a better deal than the red one, once the service work is done there is little else that needs doing as a matter of urgency.
£3500 is still cheap money for a spider, I know it’s a 2.0 but they are still good engines and in many ways are better handling and cheaper to run than a Busso
I want that car, very good buy
Cracking little car. You certainly don't find many like that for the money. Bet the customer is over the moon.
I know you can get these for £700, £1500 but it looks like it's worth spending a bit extra if you can get a good one that doesn't need a load of expensive work.
What's the best way to go about having the ABS pump sorted?
All bits are fixable with not to much effort the other one was a never ending money pit
To right
looks like a solid investment, and just needs to be constantly maintained and small niggles fixed....
Definitely a much better deal. There's nothing critical on that silver Spider. A few hundred quid will have it pretty much back to its best.
How much does a cambelt cost to do on a twinspark?
Around 350 for a 2.0
Result I’d say 👍
Nice buy! 👍
Silver is Good 👍👍
I’ll never understand why ppl buy an Alfa and then put cheap rubbish tyres on it? Why, oh why?
Crap, had one, its a fiat tipo chassis, synchro goes on gear box, plus plastic cogs that drive cam belts they disintigrate. Car only good in straight line, better with an mazda mx5
