I remember in the days when I first saw this show back when I was 5 or 6 years old, I thought that Vint was Thelma's husband, and I, unknowingly at the time, assumed that *_'Mama'_* was just a nickname for Thelma and that that was reason he always called her _'Mama.'_ I was so young that I didn't get that Vint was the loser son who lived with his mother. It was only a couple years ago that I decided to watch this whole series from the beginning to understand what was going on and it was so really funny! It was like watching a new original series because it was the first time that I watched the whole thing in its entirety and actually understood what was going on.
OMG I did the same thing. They would switch times of Mama's Family. It could be 7:30pm then moved it to 10pm and I would find it and watch it as well too. turn the volume down and closed my door and have a blanket to covered the bottom of the door so the light wouldn't reflect.
They actually both played each other's characters quite well. I never saw the actress that played Naomi in anything else, so it's interesting to see that she had range as an actor

Beverly Archer did very well @ Naomi. I liked the way the costume designer did all of Naomi's dresses in pink & Naomi wearing all of Iola's dresses in yellow & then wearing the yellow hair bows in her hair & Mama the drunken lush that looked like she's been working in the Kentucky coal mines. Tiff
People can say what they will. Some LOVE this show & the other half HATE it. But to me, especially in the times we're are in, THIS show takes me back to a much kinder & gentler time of 'everyday family life' (yeah, maybe it's a bit dysfunctional), but I'd take this dysfunctional Family over today's 'family life.' At least with this show you KNOW it is SAFE to watch & enjoy. No worries of the filth & gore & violence of pretty much all 'current TV Shows' & don't get me started on ALL these 'Reality Shows.' THIS SHOW was the first of the first of 'Reality shows.' Just without the filthy language that would make a sailor blush, or women running around barely clothed (men too) disgusting jokes that make you want to be sick & the worst violence seen here was maybe when Mama hit Vinton over the head with a newspaper, lol. I saw her Two Woman Show in Minnesota a few years ago and she was great! I swear, when she came out on stage as Mama she looked JUST like she did when playing Mama on tv. The only thing I regret was not going up to talk to her when my wife and I saw her after the show going into a restaurant at the casino she was performing at. It was perfect. There were no others around her except one guy with her, so it should have been easy to walk up and say hi to her. I chickened out though because she looked a little haggard after the show and looked like she didn't want to be bothered. I still think I should have at least have gone up and said hi and maybe gotten a picture with her. :(

They weren't reruns in the 80s....it ran from 1983 to 1990.... you saw them first run shows they became reruns during the late 90s and 2000s onward.

There were no others around her except one guy with her, so it should have been easy to walk up and say hi to her. I chickened out though because she looked a little haggard after the show and looked like she didn't want to be bothered. I still think I should have at least have gone up and said hi and maybe gotten a picture with her. :(
