    After using it a few times, I've found the FBX file format easier for me. I assumed MD overlapped cloned pieces as it assumes they all use the same map and can save space in the map this way. I let it bake the maps during the export rather than in the UV editor but I didn't realise there were additional maps in there so may play a little. FBX doesn't let me screw up the scale, and attaches the maps to the materials already, apart from the normal! To change the same property on every surface in an object in Daz, just click the object name in the surfaces tab and it will select ALL surfaces. What you change in the values then affect them all instead of having to copy and paste later.

      Oh this works for surfaces too? I’ll try it out, thanks for the tip! There’s also a fairly easy way to combine all those material zones into one in the Tool Settings Tab with the geometry editor selected.

    Bonus Tip: overlapping UVs for patterns are OK as long as it's the same pattern. Like in my case, I could have left all 4 skirt patterns on top of one another - but an intersecting seam piece on top of that would have ruined the UVs (as it was in the default I've shown at the beginning). It's a difficult topic and I wish there was an "easy" automation in place in CLO/MD but alas there is not.

    Nice tutorial as allways. Now I have a question, why is exporting materials / maps from MD so usefull?
    MD is not very good with maps at all, will think that DAZ3d or Blender does a much better job at it

    Thank you for this video! Helped a lot. Although the garment texture doenst really look the same as in CLO... Also in the video the end result looked a bit plastic. When I tried it myself with a garment, it had the same plastic glow over it that it didnt have in CLO. Is there some other way to import clothing from CLO to Daz? Or a way to make the texture look exactly the same?

    Mein Problem ist eher, dass ich nicht finde, dass man die ausgewählten Stoffe von Marvelous gut in Daz sieht. Ob das jetzt wolle oder sonst was ist.

    For me it doesn't work, I hav a full body suit with a zipper, everytime I try to export it and import it in Daz the only thing I see is the zipline, what I have to do?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  Рік тому +1

      Sounds like you didn't export the whole object from MD. There's an option to export everything, just the patterns, or a selected pattern.

    • @Klaudius_yt
      @Klaudius_yt Рік тому

      @@WPguru I fixed for now, I had to save two OBJs, one for the suit (unweild, patterns only), one for the zipper.
      Idk if it works well in DAZ yet.

      @@WPguru I tried multiple times to be sure, the problem is Thin / Thick.
      If I select Thin, the exported OBJ is 70kb.
      With Thick it's 60mb.

    Hey, great tutorial!
    If you dont mind I have some questions:
    1. Marvelous Designer shrinked the size of the maps to fit in the space. Doesn't that mean the quallity of the texture will be less? Shuldn't it as big as possible?
    2. The metalness and roughness maps work like black=no effect and white=strong effect. For this skirt in particular the metalness map is pure black and the roughness map pure white. Shouldn't it have the same effect without these maps, simple with metalness at 0 and roughness at 1?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  3 роки тому

      Thanks! The shrinking is done so that the pattern pieces fit into the UV space. The size of the entire map will determine the resolution in DAZ Studio. Bigger map sizes give better resolutions. You can make the maps as large as you like, or as large as MD and DAZ Studio can handle. I don't know what the exact limit is on map sizes, but heard people use 16k maps in DAZ Studio, but have never tried it myself.
      And yes, many of the maps (other than normal and diffuse) do not affect this particular garment, and I didn't really need them here. I've only shown where to put those maps for demo purposes.

    Hi! Perfect video thank you so much! May I ask you something, in clo3d, I made a graphic with thickness by the displacement map. Now how can we export the thickness of the graphic with the displacement map (for an other 3d software like Blender...)? Thank you in advance 😊

    Hi, I have a question so I can confirm if this is a bug in CLO or maybe Daz. I am working on an animation from Daz to Clo and back. I've done this before with little to no issues, just took a lot of time. This time I am having issues with the UV maps not lining up on the obj garment once I import back into Daz. I have have tried several different order of operations. If I export just a static OBJ with maps (only come with diffuse & normal) then it lines up correctly in Daz. (but this type of obj is not compatible with obj seq to achieve the animation morphs) If I export the maps using the bake textures in CLO I get all the maps I need but they don't line up on the regular obj or the obj sequence I exported. I have tried exporting the UV maps before and after I run the obj sequence and nothing works. I didn't have this issue last time I imported animated clothing into Daz so I don't know if this is a bug with recent software updates or if I'm missing some tiny but super crucial step like ticking a box :). Going crazy over here.

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  3 роки тому

      I haven't done this in a while, I can take a look and see what happens for me though. Is it an OBJ that you've created from a pattern, or is it an existing OBK you're importing? I'm asking because I'm trying to check if the UV's were pre-made, or if you've UV mapped the object in MD yourself.

    • @joneienleah
      @joneienleah 3 роки тому

      @@WPguru I couldn't leave it alone so I kept working at it and figured it out. When exporting an obj seq from Clo/MD, you have to tick the box to include UV maps, but then uncheck diffuse and normal if you have already exported the maps separately. Then when you import the obj cloth into Daz and load the UV maps they fit correctly. A tiny detail but I am relieved it wasn't a bug. I think this step changed a bit after recent updates. Thx for replying :)
