  • This is a hand tools (mostly only) only video with stop motion sequences. It was a fun build and I definitely need to practice with hand tools more.

3/4 of my woodworking is hiding mistakes, haha. Great vid! Love the editing.

As we say in Germany: Guter Pfusch ist besser als schlechte Arbeit! "A very well bodged job is no bad work". Love your solution for the joint problem!

Beautiful work, dude! Really amazing looking bench! 😃
But yeah, mistakes happen. But you hide them nicely!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Really nice hand tool work. I never though of using an angle finder with your planing jig to cut the ends. Really cool.

I am going to build this... literally just had a cherry log sawn into 5/4 slabs and now they are air drying for the next year.

    Dear Sir
Its really great of you to use hand tools in this era of power tools. To work with hand tools is a really carpentry skills. You did a perfect job and your work is flawless in addition to that your video effects are amazing and very interesting. Thanks for sharing your skills and style with all of us.

Awesome bench. I made a very similar design except my legs were perpendicular to the top. The angles introduces much more challenging wedged mortise and tenons!! Well done.

Great job with the execution of the bench and putting the video together. Woodworking jokes are awesome! "That looks awful, so let's fix it, still looks awful". Made me laugh.

In the Oldtools emailing list, the Galoots said if you make a mistake, put ebony in it. Most tenon wedges are oriented perpendicular to the grain to avoid splitting, but your stock is pretty thick and might be non-splitty like elm

Thank you! I have a goal to do some more like that, it’s just hard to find time with some of the other things I have in the queue.

That’s a very nice looking bench. How long did that take to make I wonder? ,a lot of hours I’m sure.
Good on you for showing how you remedied your mistakes too.

The bench took about two weeks in my free time, probably a total of 6-7 hours. The stop motion doesn’t really add that much time to the entire thing.
