Again a lovely pattern. And doubtless effective. Thanks for giving so much of your time and ideas to help the rest of us improve.
I can only agree, Davie you have most likely fostered a generation of fly tiers me included! thank you for giving your time and energy. Another fantastic pattern. Cheers Martin
I do enjoy tying buzzer patterns myself and they’re not too difficult but haven’t seen this style before. Will definitely give it a go, fantastic looking pattern Davie thanks for posting it pal.
Davie McPhail thanks. Beautiful work.
You make it look so easy I'd say you could tie them with your eyes closed master. Another fantastic video.
Snap - my brother had a craft knife for making balsa wood aeroplanes when he was a child, he's now 77, I'm 69. I've been using the knife handle with a needle inserted in the same way as you do, same craft knife. Been using it for fly tying since I was about 12 still not brilliant at it but nothing beats taking seatrout on your own flies.

another beauty mate...
Great work. Thanks
Just perfect. I was wondering Davie, some of the older fly tying books I’ve picked up suggest tying in breathers at the head or head and tail using white floss - is this considered unnecessary nowadays?
Hi Ollie Gregson,
I prefer to fish them without breathers though I would say it's worth having some tyed with them...I would say that 95% of the buzzers I tye don't have them but I have friends in Ireland that ask for many patterns tyed with breathers that fish the Corrib so if you fish in Ireland it's worth taking some with you..I'm glad you like the buzzer..
All the very best Davie..
Ah interesting.... Will bear that in mind as we are looking to go over at some point, always good to get some inside information! Cheers Davie, thanks for replying!
tie comp flys plz
Just ordered a couple 100 fulling mills hooks, wondering what trout nymph patterns you recommend ?
Hi davie was just wondering would any uv resin do the same as fulling mill
Jay James Maher Most likely, viscosity is more important than which brand that you use. Keep in mind that some resins set tackier than others. If yours feels tacky, try running a light coat of Hard as Nails, or another quality clear nail enamel over it, and allow it to dry completely (several hours to overnight) before using the fly. I find that Solarez works well for me. Here in the US, I get mine from the Hook and Hackle Company (hookhack.com)
Hi Jay James Maher,
There's many companies that sell the UV Resins nowadays and most will work fine, the Fulling Mill is a hard resin so you will get a nice finish though like handcannon said give the resin a light coat of varnish which will seal and keep the resin clear..
All the very best Davie..
what did you use to display the fly in the thumbnail? I dont believe ive ever seen something like that before watching your videos. Ive been binge watching your videos and it has made me want to take fly tying up as a hobby, yours look amazing and i can only hope to be even half as good as you are talented
Hi Sabrina Sweeley,
I have attached a link to the small holder I used to show the fly in the thumbnail..I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that you may take up tying your own flies..
All the very best Davie...
