      Brought me back to being a kid listening to KGO 810 AM radio. My dad had the radio nailed to that station. I hated all the news talk but Paul Harvey was always interesting. God bless!

    That sounds super frustrating to try and diagnose. Quick question - if you swap that power supply you unplugged that killed POE into a different switch does POE die on that? Maybe a bad power supply in your RMA'd switch?

      The switches are all modular so they send you basically just a chassis. You have to switch the power supplies, fan module, and stacking module over from the failed switch. They thought it was a RAM problem. It wasn't. I'll make a root cause video very soon. God bless!

    At my previous company, I've had terrible experience with Extreme switches. Customer service rep and myself have built a nice relationship due to faulty switches I've came across.

      Yeah, I'm starting to get that a lot of folks have had issues with them. I've only ever worked on Extreme and Procurve switches. Never Cisco if you can believe it. God bless!

    PoE headers will randomly plague us. I’ve found it’s due to either heat or dust. Also, one thing we do is stacking with the SFP+ ports and FS MM transceivers. Helps if we have a power problem on one switch it won’t carry to each stack member (as long as it isn’t power related on the AC side)

      I do have some switches that are stacked via SFP ports. Most use the dedicated stacking cables because... well... salesman. God bless!

    Interesting, hope Extreme finds an answer to why all this is happening

    Also, I’ve seen flapping stack ports cause kernel panic and reboots

    • @NetworkAdminLife

      Well as a matter of fact the root cause turned out to be a bad stacking port. So you may have hit on something there. God bless!

    Seeing this video and thinking about my comment on your last video, I recognise the problems with the Extreme switches from years ago, my advise, start thinking about something different :) Random reboots, Loosing random stackmembers, Loosing PoE.... In the past we dropped stacking of the switches made them more stable.

      That's interesting because normally I don't have any problems with them. Maybe the X460's do better than the old C5 switches as far as POE? Don't know. We don't really have too many POE problems on them though. God bless!

    Do have the same OS version all over?
    Is that a universal hardware or older X ?

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  3 місяці тому

      Yeah, I'm in the process of upgrading the firmware but otherwise all the same firmware levels out there. These are X460-G2 switches. God bless!

    Stones throw away from you in Modesto, CA - Extreme switches are super problematic.. Go Cisco if you can they're worth the extra $$

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  3 місяці тому

      Well then hi neighbor. To be honest, I don't really have that many problems with Extreme switches. The number isn't Zero so if Cisco's have zero problems then it might be worth the switch. God bless!

    G'morning brother, Grace & Peace 2 U! Oh wow! I remember listening to Paul Harvey's radio show with my grandfather on Saturdays Thanks once again for a great video! That is weird how equipment will develop a mind of it's own. I like your troubleshooting approach, I've actually taken several notes on your process to implement with my own to get the job done! I appreciate all that U do 4 us and have a great and blessed day! God Bless!🙏🏽
