  • Ikaw Lamang, choral arrangement by Eudinece Palaruan. Sung by Infinito Singers (infinitosingers...), an Indonesian choir, at the National Choir Competition held by Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, Indonesia, Aug 28 - Sept 31, 2007, where the group awarded 3rd national place (in their 1st attempt :p)
Ikaw ang pangakong taglay ng isang bituin
(You are the promise within a star)
Tanging pangarap sa Diyos ay hiling
(The only dream that I ask God to grant me)
    Makapiling sa bawat sandali
(Is to spend every moment with you)
Ikaw ang pag-ibig sa araw at gabi
(You are the love I have through each day and night)
Ikaw ang pag-asang tanglaw sa dilim
(You are the only hope of light through this darkness)
    Napapawing hirap at pighati
(The one that helps me through my pain and suffering)
Langit ang buhay sa tuwing ika'y hahagkan
(My life is like heaven every time I kiss you)
Anong ligaya sa tuwing ika'y mamasdan
(What a feeling of happiness every time I look at you)
Sa piling mo, ang gabi'y tila araw
(Whenever I'm in your arms, even the darkness seem bright)
    Ikaw ang pangarap, ikaw lamang
(You are my only dream... There's only you.)
    Interlude
Ikaw ang pag-ibig sa araw at gabi
(You are the love that I have through each day and night)
Ikaw ang pag-asang tanglaw sa dilim
(You are the only hope of light through this darkness)
    Napapawing hirap at pighati
(The one that helps me through my pain and suffering)
Langit ang buhay sa tuwing ika'y hahagkan
(My life is like heaven every time I kiss you)
Anong ligaya sa tuwing ika'y mamasdan
(What a feeling of happiness every time I look at you)
Sa piling mo, ang gabi'y tila araw
(Whenever I'm in your arms, even the darkness seem bright)
    Ikaw ang pangarap, ikaw lamang
(You are my only dream... There's only you.)

If I may offer an answer...it's PARTLY because Filipino choirs have been winning a lot of choral competitions and in effect get to promote Filipino music. It also helps that the Philippines has a wealth of good arrangers.

    thank you revanslc,
glad you like our rendition. The song itself is already beautiful as it is.. Such a pleasure for us to sing it :)
You can say that our choir is based from community. A group of people who love singing in a choral format a bit too much.. haha!

Most Filipinos descended from the Sri Vishayan empire which was based in Palembang, Indonesia. Towards the latter part of the 12th century, the Sri Vishayans were defeated by the Madjapahit empire from Java forcing them to leave Indonesia. This massive Indonesian immigration to what is now known as the Philippines was recorded by the Chinese monk I-Ching. Filipinos are of Indonesian ancestry.

Well done. I'm Filipino and I can't say I'm surprised as we have a deep connection to Indonesia in terms of history and with the blood that's coursing through our veins. Sweet rendition. If there's one thing I know about Philippine choirs, it's that they sing from the heart. That is what truly makes their singing great. And I feel the same from your choir. As a dear friend of mine always tells me, "Sing not with your voice, but with your heart". Good job and keep it up!

I noticed a lot of Indonesians are Mixed Chinese themselves, particularly in areas of historical significance like Jakarta, Palembang, etc. Look at them in this video, they look like people from Luzon, Northern Philippines, just south of Taiwan.. Europeans separated us because of their evil race. We must claim back the unity of the Philippines and Indonesia..
