I've been spamming Rag and loving him lately, this video couldn't have come out at a better time!
In my personal opinion, E build is superior in most cases, even with 2 frontliners. My thinking is that E is much safer because you can even use it on allies, is quicker to soak and slows in AoE. In most cases where Q build shines, is only when, as you can see in this video, the enemy frontliners, even with heavy CC as diablo and Imperius don't focus you and get you down. It is a style a bit more passive than Q already is, but enables your tank and rest of your team with Speed for engaging and slows. And even you can still pick the Q talent at 16 if you see yourself facing that double frontline, but in this case you will not be facing them constantly, just occasionally and still contribute to make them think twice or get surprised by the damage they are receiving.

thats how i play rag double E talents at 1 and 4 than auto attack one at 7 and at 13 either resilient flame or tempered flame but at 16 always giant scorcher

This video series is so interesting - namely for the heroes you are choosing to carry on. It's Supports and Bruisers where prevailing thought is to carry, you need to play assassins and playmakers. Question: are you doing videos featuring supports/bruisers because that's just what you tend to play the most, or do you genuinely think they're better carry choices than assassins?
I'm interested in this as well. I'm transitioning to HOTS from LoL and find this information valuable, but the characters I want to play aren't in the Bruiser/Support category so I'm at a loss when I'm not able to doublesoak or solo mercs.
Bruisers are good for carrying in low ranks just because people tend to miss out on so much xp soak that you can very easily contribute a ton of value. You just have to clearly communicate when you will and will not be with the team so they don't take outnumbered fights (though they often will anyway).

To be completely honest I am filling 90% of games and these are just the roles I tend to get. I think you can carry in any role, but I find these will be the roles you are most likely to get because no one wants to do them.

I've always been told to basically just use Lava Wava off cooldown to push the exp lead?
Use it off cd if u are losing in exp and lanes are pushed against your team, but if are ahead in exp and your lanes are pushed enough, save it for teamfights
When Rag first came out, mirror match was a thing in qm (Rag vs Rag) I could out hero/siege damage and out exp a Lava Wave Rag with Sulfuras Smash Rag. He clears waves fast enough, I feel like Lava Wave is just for lazy macro and you can do the Lava Wave job yourself and have a teamfight ultimate.
Edit: if you take Lava Wave, look at the time top of the screen, someone please comment if I'm right or wrong, but depending on the map, you want to throw Lava Wave at around 15secs or 45 secs so that you catch the new wave that spawns every 30 seconds (at 00 secs or 30 secs); if you have thw luxury to decide when to throw it.
If you are on a map with OBJ that can take long. You can lava wave the lane that is far. If you have 2 lava wave you can push 2 lanes. Enemy can not chatch up. But is you loosing You should save it to be abel to defend against pushes. You go molten core. Slap the frontline and start the wave. May you can sed an another one out after 5 sec if they still pushing in to your base. Basiccaly i delayed loosing games for 10 minutes until we won one teamfight and could run their core down after a succesfull defense.
What's your assessment of rag on Braxis? If you do pick him would you run him solo or in the 4-man?
he's typically the solo on braxis. As a melee hero who doesn't have a good escape or engage compared to other heroes, I don't think he'll do well in the 4 man unless the enemy team is a dive comp. Rag would also need to know when to trait cause it's really good on the zerg.
@@Kraily4t8 the issue is he's less strong soloing on maps where the objective is about point control - largely braxis and dragonshire. The shrines/beacons are removed from minion waves so you have to give up control of the point to q minions for sustain. Plus there's a lot of heroes that just bully him, which matters more on these maps than on ones where the solo laner's job is just to double soak and get camps. So while he's good against the zerg waves, he loses a lot of matchups in the solo lane unless your team is really good at rotations. That's why you see him in the 4 man sometimes and someone better for the map in the solo lane.
@@Insipidu5 Wouldn't it be hard to get stacks for rag in the 4 man? Also, he wouldn't be very good at trading if the enemy has range, meaning he'll have to rely on ganks and good cc's from the tank, but he doesn't offer that much compared to other heroes besides trait and ult. In the solo-lane, he can instead try to trade with the opponent, a well used e followed by q, w can be brutal. Other than that, rag would have to get stacks and soak carefully (if the opponents are good at bullying him). Another thing he can do is bait the opponent into the wave so he can get that q value.
Tbh, after this assessment, I'm having a hard time seeing rag as a good hero compared to other heroes like Chen, grey, and Sonya who offer so much more.
I play mid plat and I always go W build. I am still baffles how many people get hot by a well timed lava wave. This season, Rag is one of my top picks. Maybe I should try the Q sometime as well, although I do feel that the spell shield is extremely valuable from W.
I usually go Q or E. E when playing with friends. Hard to time decently in pubs and get the maximum out of it. Q for smashing pubs. :D
I've said it before and I say it again: Lava Wave is a trap ult. Ragnaros is TOP3 best waveclear hero in the game even without Lava Wave. You don't need the extra waveclear, as waves disappear like insects if Ragnaros even looks at them. On the other hand, Sulfuras Smash is one of the highest damaging ults in the game that also gives CC and provides Ragnaros a way to finish off enemies that would otherwise get away as it has a really long range. Heroic Difficulty at lvl20 also empowers Sulfuras Smash, allowing you to 100->0 a squishy in an eyeblink if you are in Molten Core.
Funny how the GM one trick wrote a guide on ragnaros and said the exact opposite :P
Where can I find it?
I don't think people take Lava Wave because they need it for waveclear, I think they take it so that they can waveclear from across the map so they can stay in a teamfight and not abandon their team in top lane to get the minions in bot lane.
I'm not saying Sulfuras Smash is a bad ult though either, though at the moment where a lot of the most played assassins have dashes or other things for escape (thinking Genji, Hanzo, Tracer, Falstad, etc) that make it incredibly easy to avoid Sulfuras Smash, and in general I think it's way too easy for people to avoid the stun part of the ult even without dashes.

I feel like it lacks the endgame the level 16 Q has to offer. also a lot less self-sustain,so you gonna need a good healer and you cant really double-soak early because the quest wants to grind up in team fights.

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever lost against a Rag. Meaning I've never had a loss where I was like "damn that Rag carried hard".
I can understand that. Ragnaros can „secretly“ carry a team. I remember a game where the enemy was super far ahead in xp and at the end ragnaros was it who had gathered like 36k or so. I had seen those numbers only on Abathur or Vikings so far.
What djsonic said ragnaros doesn't seem to be carrying because his team is usually the ones killing you. He is able to do much more pve than most other heroes, which gives his team more free time to whatever they want. He also can hit like a truck. However he is pretty squish so he can be ganked pretty easily and if he gets kited it's really tough for him to fight
Why use e on minions i always though that is a waste of mana and escape
I would say it's used for safe, ranged damage/wave clear. If you're in a position where you think you might get jumped but want to clear a wave, use your E on a minion so you don't have to go in there. Can also use it to force the minions to meet at a different point along the lane if that kind of thing is important to you.
literally the build i use all the time. great in team fights and LW is cheating in low ranks

I usually go with smash cause it can be a huge bit of burst damage in molten core, plus I am lretty good at landing middle hsots in the fog of war when someone tries to escape :p Also, heroic diff ftw
LW is terrible for teamfights if you are not fighting idiots tho, because of vids like this, diamond players think that they have to take lava wave on maps like Volskaya and Cursed hollow and what I see is that lava wave doesn't win you the game at all because you lose most objectives, it defends well though, which makes you go through really really long games, so rather than taking a 12 minute win/loss because sulfuras smash made a difference in some teamfights, you get into these 25 minute long games where you eventually lose because the exp doesn't matter anymore and lava wave is just completely useless at that point

There's quite many weaknesses of this champ.
1:No slow,CC
2:Low mobility
3:Though high AOE damage,the single damage is probably lower than other fighter
4:Probably stay no chance if the opponent good at poke and kite. Both your perfomance in laning and teamfight will be fked up
5. Weak in the very early period
Though I have the same thought with you, the interesting passive, great waveclean, and mostly important, the cool character design, but I think the 1-3 points listed above is the main reason they don't play Ragnaros.

Tons of heroes have dodges and shit like that that can minimize your damage, the higher the rank, the more people know how to talk away from your meatball without eating the whole duration.
W build becomes situational and semi-easy to counter by just walking the right way. Where Q damage is high-risk high reward. And E is just chill af.

This proves that no matter what rank you are, there's one stupid team and one smart team in every game. Blue team literally travelling as 5, not soaking, forcing fights constantly. Easy to play against that as any hero. Unfortunately, that's the team I always end up on.
Is this series qbout all heroes? Because Rag is not a good hero/ easy way, to get to master.
Its just a clickbait title, with these guides you can climb to low dia at most, he's got good mechanics, but if you see these guides you can tell he doesn't know that much about each character. Just the surface (Hence you can't carry with them to master)
The series is about the Heroes he used to climb from Diamond 3 to Masters, was literally the very first thing he talks about at the start of the video. Also I dunno what this other reply is about, NotParadox is in Masters, so if it's not possible to climb to Masters with Rag as one of the Heroes you use then how is he there?
Also to be clear this series isn't him saying "if you do this you can easily get to Masters with Rag" it's more of a "if you play these 5+ Heroes (see his other videos) and know the correct times to pick them and what maps and team comps they do well with, as well as obviously having good mechanics and a good understanding of how your character works. Then you can easily climb to Masters."
Everything is possible. But there are better heroes to carry to master with. That is only what I am saying. Also, Im master, I dont learn anything from these videos. I still support this channel tho.
Also, I think lava wave is bad when you are in high master.
Not Paradox these situations doesn't happen in 76% of games cuz ppl below diamond rarely are grouping up and playing as teams xD Even on ARAM Brawls there are players who are on second side of map and don't follow thier team choices.

Ragnaros is super underrated. He just sucks early game
Wave clear is still good early game and you might be able to trade against your laner with your minions.

There is armor but then there is also subtypes of armor (physical armor and spell armor). If a talent or skill just says "Armor" it reduces ALL damage. Spell armor only reduces damage from spells and physical armor reduces basic attack damage, so there are actually 3 types of armor. Rag has just "armor" (all damage reduced).
Armor reduces all damage. Then there's Spell Armor and Physical Armor. :)

I think the point is not that people never clump, it's that if they're playing properly, they won't clump up. Yes, you can do well with those abilities, but only if the other team makes mistakes. So you shouldn't base your strategies on other people making mistakes.
im pretty sure most strategy in any kind of conflict is to base the strategy on weaknesses/errors

I'm a Diamond and recently playing on a smurf account. Unfortunately, I got Silver on the smurf and it's just so hard to win in this league. Everyone is just so bad with their characters. On my main account, I didn't need to climb too hard cuz my rank went up automatically every season. So my question is how to "carry" in Silver, where no one has any clue how to play in general? I play alone.
It's true, MMR hell is real. You can carry as hard as possible but if your team doesn't understand basic concepts (usually DON'T TAKE OUTNUMBERED FIGHTS) you're screwed.
Get yourself a team that will follow your lead. That is how i got out of Silver.

Ragnaros is cheating because soaking is cheating and the r button soaks for you. Aside from that I find it's great for soaking those far away lanes that the enemy team still needs to soak which gives you the opportunity to invade a camp 5v4
