About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

nice work guys. I love that you shows the floor plans when you work on a room thank you
Hi guy's great job. Just one little worry is if the fireplace in the 400 suite is dropping, doesn't it mean the beams underneath the floor are rotten and need strengthening. I mean, I would hate you to have a nasty accident after all that hard work. 😢❤
Apologies for nattering about health and safety, but please consider using canister respirators for the woodworm treatment. I worry about the dust masks not properly protecting you from vapor.
Also wear protective eye coverings. Liquid sprays unpredictability at times. If you can't use regular eyewear, try face shields like doctors wear.
Also, do not wear rings on your fingers while working. I've known folks that have had their rings cut off from swelling from finger injuries (you could lose a finger to that same issue).
You are a beautiful couple love watching you
Hello everyone from a cold Ky, USA.
Evening Amy 😊
What amazing work you guys do to the Chateau. You are adding another 100 years to it. Keep up the good work.😊❤
Or 200 yrs! Repairing it solidly. Great work guys!
Perhaps you need to leave a time capsule before you seal up one of these areas for the future.
Respectfully, I admire the work that all of you are doing, but it was rather shocking to see over and to the left and to the right of that window. How rotted things were but of course that come from many, many years now. On the other hand, you two are cleaning it out exceptionally well and with no criticism from nobody. You all know what you're doing and the other thing is in putting things back. You are building them stronger and placing materials that would last longer than what they did in the day when it was built. Congratulations! I admire all of you. Will be praying for you and your family. Keep up the excellent work and will continue to follow the journey. God bless 🙏
Every time you pull down a section of paneling and expose a section of wall it must be a cross your fingers and pray moment.
The more I watch your videos the more I’m saddened at the way these beautiful chateaux are left to the elements. I realize that the families in most cases have no choice because of the financial burden, but still, as they say, it is a shame. At the very least there are folks such as yourself and the many others I watch who are willing to take on these projects and bring back some of the old beauty and elegance of these Grande Dames. Thank you for that….and continued good luck with these “just jobs” that come up from time to time!
Thanks Paul.
We know ours was due to an older couple not being able to maintain it anymore. The owner after that was just a businessman and stripped any value he could find from it 😢😢
People just don't realise how many chateaux and manor France has....that's why the government isn't keen to protect and finance their heritage.....those r all fairly new buildings compared to the estate of the whole country. If they r that cheap it's because there r too many of the around the countryside. Its more cheap to take them down than keeping them.
@@ashleywaters7198 both situations are sad. Imagine being that older couple and having to say good bye to that place. The businessman should be dealt with severely, let’s just say. Again, glad that you and the family and others are able to being her dignity back.
I love the backround music. I'm sure I've heard it before. I keep guessing and getting it wrong. I thought it was from Downton Abbey, then Endeavour, and my last guess was North and South. Please help appease my curiosity if you have time. Wonderful work as usual.💕
I had no idea you could use plaster of Paris for that. Amazing!
God bless your 💕 thank u for your love to this chateau!!!! She is forever grateful !!! Love yall from texas!
Everything u yall have done there is so amazing!!! God bless yall!
The place gets warmer with each new window and the new windows look so nice.
You muyst have gotten the spider webs out of the room, Ashe is in there working as hard as ever.
I think this reception area was a wonderful area for a Christmas tree and perhaps a viewing room for funerals of Chateau family. You are certainly giving it its due respect.
Say what???
@@SongOfEire😂😂😂
I believe that area was where all the mink coats and Top hats were kept when guests arrived for fancy dinners. Even if it wasn’t fancy, I’m sure it was used as some sort of cloak room. Otherwise it wouldn’t have been paneled.
I’m praying for complete successes with every job. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 love to you all…be safe. I’m so very proud of all of you. Great job always!❤❤❤❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I had a colonial home built 1720. We had to spray for bugs wood worms regularly its the joy of old homes
such a cute couple
I respect your expertise and everything you work on. I do hope you sprayed the living daylights out of those window cavities because after you had sprayed and before you put the new wood in - while you were both up in the top of the window space - with your heads in the cavity, we could see in the lower left of where your heads were, live worms in the old wood behind your heads, popping in and out of worm holes, moving tiny bits of wood around. Were surprised because you had already sprayed. Do check the video so you can be sure all is well. This is NOT criticism in any way. Just caution.
Maybe the worms were dying therefore wiggling around. Yummy
Sadly, spraying doesn’t always find its way up inside all the bends and turns in wood and the lava live on. I work in a big museum and we used to fumigate all kinds of objects. (No longer legal I hasten to add). We got a job lot of wooden giraffes from Africa for our shop and fumigated them because they had a few worm holes. Later, when removed from the gas chamber one of the giraffes was seen to have a split in it and we gently broke it open to find several large wood boring beetles. They’s survived a full on gas attack somehow. Maybe they block their tunnels or something but the gas was deemed to be much more effective than spraying. Nowadays we freeze things to minus 30 degrees which seems to sort out most pests. …But who knows?
That’s definitely a worry! Especially true when it’s structural wood. Depending on the area in France there are also termites which is why chateaus in the north are often in better condition as they are above the termite zone.
@@TheInappropriateQuilterZaza Indeed. Obviously you can only spray the surfaces that are exposed too, so as always, it’s what remains unseen that can cause the worry but you can only do what you can do and hope you get them all or at least a lot of them.
They did
Ash and Terry. I love following your utube videos. I just wanted to remind you fellows that you only get 2 eyes in a lifetime! Please try to make a habit of wearing safety glasses. You both have beautiful eyes -please protect them!
Great job on the fireplace Terry it will come up fantastic 😊 and you two are a awesome couple, get in there and get it done 😅
Not for nothing but you might want to take a long straight board of some kind or a level and check the floor in front of the fireplace to see if there is a bow in the floor or if it is unlevel because if it is this will continue to be a problem.... Just a thought.... The work your doing is looking good so far keep up the good work...😮
I love the music you put in your videos ❤
Thank you 🙏 😊
When you were inside the window space working. Was that fungus growing on the beam behind your head?
Well done all of you! The time you all take and the perseverance you show is notable. I think you all need a holiday away at the end of the year to recuperate for next year. 😍😍
Thanks Jennifer 😊
She is such a beauty thanks to yall God bless!!
Good job securing ceiling area over exterior windows. I assume you will add some insulation and vapor barrier before closing this space up. I am also curious if you have factored in a dumb waiter or laundry shoot system to help with laundry transfer between 3rd, 2nd and perhaps 1st floor with basement laundry area? If not you may want to try and find some way to make life easier with carrying food or laundry up and down those stairs, especially with future rental situation.
Great job guys. Love how you always find a way to get the job done right. Definitely deserve a hot bath 🛀 😍😘
Always, more good work. Your collective progress is astounding. Be proud.
Just wanted to say hi and how y'all doing? Im always really happy to see how well you work together. Did you sustain any storm damage? Hope not. Hi Lord Patrick 😊 Tx🇺🇲
I love work. I can sit and watch it for hours. Just kidding. You three are amazing. It looks like it may have been past Patrick's bedtime. He let out a big yawn. Hopefully he wasn't bored! LOL.❤
Why is your timber yellow ? stephen bristol Fantastic to watch you work with such diligence look forward to your you tube
Thanks Stephen. It’s because it’s been treated :) 😊😊
Those beams above your fix looks rotted as well
Well done Terry! You're such a hard worker like your Mum!
Looking great fellas
Thank you 😊😊
Great job on the fireplace, Enjoyed, Blessings,
Yes - please look at the beam behind your heads in this video!!!!
I wept with love at seeing little Patrick in Ash’ arms. His little chubby leg holding your arm, then he kissed you. He is so adorable, I’m lost for words. 💕💕💕💕💕
So sorry to hear about the accident 🙏 to the family
Jobs well done! You're all just amazing!! 👏
I trust that everyones experience, critical thinking skills & individual abilities will aid your decisions. I'm aware that *a lot* of consideration goes into every project you do. Anyway... the cute double butt shot made me smile. Lotsa love, Pat 😊xxxxx
another job ticked off the list ✅
Thanks Kath 😊
6:59 and on is a really creepy part with the writhing worm in the bottom left hand corner.
Your little dog is so adorable .
Ash, I'm a big fan of expanding foam as well. Who needs structure?
Great job on fire place & replacing the beams 🤗👍🤗👍
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Awe Patrick ❤️
Ash & Terry - My father was a carpenter and I saw him doing the same things the same way as you currently are doing...so, I believe you have developed amazing carpentry skills. Be proud of yourselves. WWII trained by father in his carpenter skills.
Thank you so much Vicki! That means a lot 😊😊
Great job you all are doing for the chateau!! My husband did the same things you are doing. I watched and also helped when needed!! He passed away and I’m so thankful I learnt so much from him, like carpentry, farming, livestock, gardening and to just live life with love. So you all carry me back in time just for a second!! Which is such a great feeling!! Lots of love from Tennessee!!
Fantastic job Lad’s 🥰🥰
Thanks Jasmine 😊
Fabulous job!!! I like all the little jobs getting done, it is interesting to see how you tackle them. Have a lovely weekend 😊
Thank you Jo! You too 🥰🥰
Lots done all necessary little jobs .⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
great job done guys , we are dreading to see what is behind our wooden paneling .. all the best x
I'm glad you got the window area all sorted out. That was scary when it collapsed, when I saw it happen I knew it probably broke the window. Good luck that you already had the replacement. Please be careful when doing the next window we would hate to see one of you hurt.
Great jobs
I love that camera angle up at the top of the window. So good!
Thanks Lynne 😊
To much ash and Terry make it safe well done you two
Great job done, what’s next
Terry - another JUST job.
Trap-door reception area; your laughter in the aftermath of collapse is charming. I love that this is another adventure for you. Always thorough and the results are so rewarding.
Amazing job. Congratulations. See you later.
All good jobs well done. Have a nice weekend.x
Thanks Sylvia. You too! 😊
Your book looks amazing. Can’t wait to purchase copies of it….😀😀😀
👏👏😉👍💪💪 bravo comme d’habitude du bon travail 😉
I always look forward to and enjoy the videos.
Thanks Joanna 😊😊
Boys you can graft!
Guys in my opinion that is not the way to fix that beam. Normally you all do a good job repairing things but this could have been done better. I would not have put the loose rock back up in the cavity. I would have mechanically attached the beams to the structure and then used some type of rigid insulation to to fill the voids. I’m not sure how you keep moisture out of the space.
Great job as usual
Yeah the cheminée is not as beautiful as in the other rooms ! But with a nice trumeau or glasse maybe like you did in the bud room
Ash fair play 👏 you didn’t let the critters stop you 🕷️ 🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️… oooh ! I’m shaking 🫨 ❤
You are truly getting through so many jobs. Love your smiles and your paneled walls even in their bad state are beautiful. xx
Deep into every crevice with no room for a poor job done…you all demonstrate amazing work ethic…thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
You two are amazing. I watch these with total attention!
Thanks Melanie 😊
That is a huge hole!!
Once again, impressive attention to detail! I love watching it develop back into its former beauty. Well done all of you! ❤️🇨🇦
Thanks Bev 😊
You all are so talented!
Thanks Luna 😊
Great work and hi Patrick 👋 😊😊😊
Thanks Angela 😊
What a job!! You always tackle a problem together and with a smile! You are all giving Jonathan excellent life lessons and examples to follow. ❤ (so interesting to see between the floors)
Will you be keeping the wall tiles in the second little room where you fixed the window.? They are nice.
Love Patrick , looks great
Thanks Randy 😊
I really appreciate the attention you all pay to the smallest details, down to making sure the finish on the window hardware matches throughout! A really quality restoration is what you're doing!
Thanks Judith 😊
good job guys
Thank you 🙏 😊
Everything is looking fabulous and I have a new respect for the space above the windows! I love the green log burner!
You didn’t treat this beams for woodworms? No insulation for that area?? Cold 🥶
Wonderful job but please be careful!! Hard hats, please!!
Thanks June
Great work as always. ❤
Totally looking awesome as usual ❤
Epic jobs done and dusted and out of the way…..Progress
I'm so pathetic 😭 I'm dying to see that Gentleman's Room, I don't think I'll make it 😂 this room you're doing now, is going to be stunning also, I can only imagine.
Really enjoyed your videos. Keep ticking off the little jobs you will get there slowly but surely ❤
Thanks Nelle 😊😊
You really are an amazing family! I take it ash has braved the room now that the cobwebs have gone!! Changing the subject, can I thank you for doing Chateau du Colombe’s Stuart and Patrick’s live stream tonight after the death of one of their much loved dogs. I held it together until Patrick choked up and then I slightly lost it. Like so many Chateaux families, you have hearts of gold. ❤️
Thanks Jane. Yes Terry cleared the room for me 😂😂
Patrick and Stuart are our good friends and we knew Colin too!
It’s broken their hearts and we sobbed the entirety of the video, but needed to be there for them! 🥰🥰
Tonight I worried about both of your eyesight! Spray chemicals and little stones and dust, I know you have safety specs! Good job done though. Love as always from County Durham xxx ❤
Thanks Glenys. The specs can be more hazardous. As they fog up and we can’t see 😂😂
I have heard shaving cream will prevent fogging up.
How’s Jonathan doing?
He’s doing well thank you 😊😊
I will be ready and waiting for tonight’s program. Terry you were so lucky that you realised that when you were moving that panelling above the window that it was holding loose debris.
Thanks Kathleen 😊😊
Will you be able to polish the stone on the fireplace?
Can u fill it with insulation? Is that needed? I imagine that the rocks etc would have been a thick windbreak and insulator
Ash that’s the bit I was asking how far the beams go into the way, I understand the setup now … cheers!
25:25 great job guys it's looking great welldone that will most probably last for many years
Great seeing you guys working together
And Tracey is doing a superb job
Hi Patrick
Love hugs and kisses to you all
Johann
South Africa
❤❤😊❤❤
Thanks Johann 🥰🥰
Noticed while watching you do fireplace mantel.....that wen u reapplied it back on u left gap at top. ..might I suggest you redo and meet the top marble pieces n fill in only on bottom * other wise quite noticeable difference of the sides* love to watch you guys push thru and be so creative...loving how it's looking* fantastic
Thank you 😊
ps to stop your replacement timber rotting - soak the ends in old engine oil. Love your painted fittings x
Steel beams would defeat woodworms for sure.
