    We go to Siem Reap every year for Xmas and new year for 3 weeks and stay at the sofitel, every year is the same, a cacophony every morning with stuff blasting out of loudspeakers that starst at 5:00am. I do not know why Cambodians are so fond of loudspeakers!

    Beautiful apartment. My Wife and I are heading to Siem Reap once the travel bans are over, checking it out as a place to live. Just spent two years living in Chiang Mai but we are currently back home in Australia at the moment. When you say $300 plus are you using AUD or USD ? Thanks for sharing

      All in US over here. Unfortunately the Aussie dollar is not in a good way but they pay you in US dollars here so could work out better in the long run. We also lived in Chang Mai for a few months and loved it.

    Hi, I am looking at Siem Reap videos at the moment trying to decide on a place to retire & 1 channel claimed foreigners couldn't ride motorcycles in Siem Reap, is this true and do you need a motorbike license from Australia to ride one? Good video & has made me determined to visit once travel has opened up.

    • @ForRiel
      @ForRiel  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, and thanks for watching! The question about motorcycle riding in Siem Reap comes up a bit. There's a rule that foreigners on tourist visas can't ride motos, but when you look at how many moto rental places there are that existed solely for the tourist market (pre-covid), you see that it's a rule that was never/rarely enforced. If you're on a long visa, you can ride a bike up to 125cc without a license. The problem is more to do with insurance because if you are riding here but you don't hold whatever license is required to ride the same bike back home, they might not pay out. We have Australian moto license up to 250cc. I hope that helps!

      @ForRiel  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much, Yan. We never really considered Phnom Phen as an option for long term living. We have been there quite a few times over the years, but it doesn't hold appeal for us in the same way that Siem Reap does. It's bigger, seedier, and developing at a breakneck pace that is just staggering. It has a much higher rate of petty crime, too. Siem Reap is big enough to have variety, but small enough that you can ride anywhere pretty easily and in around 10 minutes. I do know that you can get new apartments in PP that have facilities like pools and a gym for around $450, but you are restricted to living close-ish to the school where you work because the traffic is so insane.

      We moved into a less expensive place. The landlords in this building are the best people you could meet. One of the big things for us is that we had a lot of steps to climb to reach our apartment. Another downside was the big east-facing picture window in the bedroom along with the size of the bedroom. We only used the air con at night, but our bill was still very high because of this.
